I use quilters select rulers and like the all over non slip surface on the back. No matter which way I place the ruler I don't have to keep changing the direction to see the numbers I need.
Thanks for that great review on rulers Erica. Just recently I also switched to Creative grids rulers. Because I am 67 my eyesight does better with the good clarity of these rulers. It is certainly a game changer for me.
I have recently switched to creative grids and it has improved my quilting as well as confidence in making blocks….lolol did not realize the white lines so thank you for that tip….greatly appreciated
I like the rulers from Missouri Star. A lot of them are specially made for using with precuts. I do have a few of the Creative Grid rulers. I feel a good mix works for me.
Creative Grids rulers are my favorite as well. I use my 2 1/2 x 12 1/2 often. If you scan the QR code on the ruler it will take you to a related You Tube video.
I have a mixture of Missouri star specialty rulers and have start getting the creative grid rulers much easier to read and love That they have the grippers on the back of the rulers.
I replaced most of my rulers with the Creative Grids rulers. It took me a long time to make that decision because of the cost, but to me they are so worth it.
Thanks again Erica for your helpful information. I have the same go to rulers as yours. The other set I have is the Creative Grids set of squares 2.5 - 6.5 that I purchased from Fat Quarter a number of months ago. I find that I use these a lot. Again as you mentioned the markings are very clear and helpful.
Just got my first and love it! Used cheap ones for years, used many non slip gloves, non slip dots and it still slipped. I will only buy creative grids from now on!
I love creative grids rulers. They are so easy to use. I don’t use my old rulers at all. Just collect dust. Though I have given some away, before people realize I’m keeping really good rulers and giving away the ones not so good. Love the non stick dots
New sewer here. I have made 1 quilt and I'd like to make another one and only have one that's 13"×6½ and a bigger one that's 12½×12½. I was trying to make or measure to make a tiling quilt pattern but need a pile of templates, to order it can be pricey especially since I just bout tones of fabric and a wide back I didn't want to spend more money. So lost on these rulers. Thank you for your video. I do have a scan and cut but first I need to figure out my sizes for templates.
I started with several that I really can't adjust to. The lines are confusing to me. I love the ones from MSQC but sometimes the green doesn't work well with some of my fabrics. Watching one of the tutorials you have you used the 12.5 square, I picked that up and it really works for my brain. Thank you.
My favorite are the Olfa Frosted rulers. I can see much better on this ruler and feel more accurate. I do have several Creative Grid rulers as well but prefer the frosted.
Thank you for the video. The Creative Grids rulers are not ideal for left handed people. No matter which way you turn them the numbers are either upside down, in reverse order, or you’re having to measure from the half-inch side. I prefer Quilters Select. They have a gripping back side, The lines are very fine and precise, and there is easy to read numbering for both right and left handed people on all sides.
They are great rulers. My brain gets confused with them and all the markings. I do use them but I also use MSQC because they show up on my table well and don't have alot of extra markings.
Not sure if this is a size you use often, but it was given to me as "useful." CG 2 1/2" x 24". I'm new to quilting and I don't see the advantage of this size. Thanks so much! Thanks for your videos. Very helpful and easy to follow.
My favourite rulers are the Quilters Select but they are hard to find here in Canada and I only have 3 sizes. Next is Creative Grids. Both have very easy to see lines but I find the Quilters Select are a little less slippy and seem a bit easier for me to use. Creative Grids are easier to get here and are definitely great too and I have a few that I use all the time.
I love Creative Grids rulers! Started out with Omnigrid but found them hard to read and constantly slipping. Probably my inexperience…lol. One of my favorite CG rulers is the 4 1/2 inch by 6 1/2. Such a handy little size
Karen Maddox, I just bought the omnigrid a few days ago…struggling with what you just mentioned…I am working on my first 9 patch quilt and it looks wonky. Tomorrow I will be using my seam ripper and cutting a new square as it is throwing off my pattern. I wish I could take the ruler back, but I already took it out of the package.
So I probably have half Creative Grids and half Quilters Select rulers. I love them both but I think Quilters Select wins by a nose over Creative Grids. I absolutely love the QS backing, it has the perfect amount of fabric grip for me.
I have way too many rulers to buy new and improved in multiple sizes I have old creative grid ones without the centering lines and no black and white numbers I like olfa frosted rulers they have only half inch markings much easier to use and quilters select are nice
I use Creative Grids rulers almost exclusively. I also spray a little bit of a product that I buy on the back of the rulers called Grippy. It also helps cut down on the slipping.
Hi, I do not pre-wash my fabric ever unless I'm quilting with flannel. I will pre-wash flannel because it shrinks more than regular quilting cotton. And definitely do NOT pre-wash pre-cuts ever, they will fray like crazy! I do ALWAYS use color-catchers when wash my projects though to help prevent fabric bleed.
Creative Grids makes a 6 1/2" X 18 1/2" ruler (CGR18). Also if you go to their website they have a PDF page of all their rulers (WISH LIST). I always down load a new one when they produce a new ruler. I use this sheet to keep track of the rulers I own and make note of the rulers I wish to purchase.
Absolutely the best. I have 3 of your favorites and need one more. I have Omnigrid ones that I started with - very hard to see, slip all over. I got Slip Doctor's tape to use - it's cheap and works well. My three Ominigrids are 5 x 24, so no half measurement built in, 5 square, and the last is 3 by 12, no half measurements either. The 5 x 24 is good for cutting a strip to make charms (first I used a heavy pewter pitcher on the far end to stop the slippage.) So annoying. I would beach myself on top of the ruler to weigh it down. Also, if anyone has a rec or a good cutting mat, I would appreciate it. Mine is Olfa- no markings up and down the lines, and a big yellow box printed on the right corner, which I always head for since I'm right handed. Then I swear and move the fabric and ruler over again. All these little frustrations add up to a lot of time!. Erica - I really appreciate your addressing where to put fabric on a thick ruler line - I didn't know anyone else had had that problem to solve. I've always sewn clothes, but am beginning to quilt, and between 1/4 inch differing from sewing machine to sewing machine, mat to mat, ruler to ruler, and presser foot to presser foot - it's a nightmare!
I use quilters select rulers and like the all over non slip surface on the back. No matter which way I place the ruler I don't have to keep changing the direction to see the numbers I need.
I have also been quilting for a long time and have found that these older eyes love the Creative Grid rulers.
Creative grids are y fave too! Easy to read, accurate and no slip!
Thanks for that great review on rulers Erica. Just recently I also switched to Creative grids rulers. Because I am 67 my eyesight does better with the good clarity of these rulers. It is certainly a game changer for me.

Hey Erica, glad you are on.
I like the Creative Grid rulers but I also like the Quilter's Select rulers.
Quilters Select is my favorite too. But I still do have a lot of creative grids too.
I like the rulers from Missouri Star. A lot of them are specially made for using with precuts. I do have a few of the Creative Grid rulers. I feel a good mix works for me.

Oh great tip! I didn't know that LOL!
Thank you!

Creative grids…they are my favourites ruler, they are the BEST! ♥️
Thank you for teaching us. Just bought the 6 1/2” square
My favorites as well. Thanks for sharing 👍
Very good quilting rulers. Thanks for sharing!
I will only buy creative grids now that I know better. You should get the slotted ruler it is a huge time saver.
I replaced most of my rulers with the Creative Grids rulers. It took me a long time to make that decision because of the cost, but to me they are so worth it.
same!
Agree! Been replacing mine also! Game changer!
Love Creative rulers. Have most of them.
Totally agree…Creative Grids rulers are my favorite too!

I agree, they're the best! Thanks !
I really like the Olipfa ruler with the lip. It catches onto the edge of my cutting mat, & helps me align really well.
I am new to quilting, never new there were precut ruler sizes. Thanks for the video
I love your tutorials they are so helpful.

Oh interesting! I didn't even think about that for left handers! Thanks for sharing the Quilters Select for others! :)
Thanks for sharing this information! I’ve been debating on getting these.
Thank you. I appreciate your thoughts!
I just ordered a few of the rulers. Can’t wait to use them!
Such a cute kitty!!!
I have many size rulers but only really use the ones you described in this video.
Creative Grids rulers are my favorite as well. However, I do have some from Missouri Star that like for their sizes.
I like creative grid rulers I love my strithropology square up ruler
My favorite rulers too.
I use Creative grids based on your tutorials. I also have a green omingrid square that I use quite a bit!
They are great rulers. My brain gets confused with them and all the markings. I do use them but I also use MSQC because they show up on my table well and don't have alot of extra markings.
Yes, creative rulers a must

Hi, I don't use that size very often, but 2-1/2" is a very common size so I'd keep it around :)
@@erica_arndt Thank you a lot! Good to know!

Super helpful and to the point! Great video!
I love Quilters Select rulers. I like creative grids as well, but I have a hard time reading them.
Could you do a video on squaring up blocks? It confuses me for some reason.
Yes please! This confuses me as well!
Sure!
Me too!
My absolute favorites as well!!
As usual good information ! 🙂
I like creative grids also. Some of the other rulers are too busy
I have way too many rulers to buy new and improved in multiple sizes I have old creative grid ones without the centering lines and no black and white numbers I like olfa frosted rulers they have only half inch markings much easier to use and quilters select are nice
I knew some of that, but not all. Thankyou
Thank you

I only use creative grids. I never noticed the 1/4 and 1/2 rubber!
Very helpful. Thank you so much 😊
Would you explain Iltimate Flying Geese creative grid.
Thank you Nancy
Hi Erica......I’m just starting to collect my tools to begin quilting and was wondering do you prewash your new fabric before quilting?
Hi, I do not pre-wash my fabric ever unless I'm quilting with flannel. I will pre-wash flannel because it shrinks more than regular quilting cotton. And definitely do NOT pre-wash pre-cuts ever, they will fray like crazy! I do ALWAYS use color-catchers when wash my projects though to help prevent fabric bleed.
I bought this brand of ruler; I even had several. But I gave them up because the numbers are too darn small and confusing. But this is a good video
I like Creative Grids too, but I wish they made them for left-handed people. I have to use them with the numbers upside down when cutting.
I have various creative grid rulers but am not up on being able to use it to cut different shapes. Can you help?
❤️
They have 8 1/2 by 24 1/2 out now.
how to use the stripology ruler from creative grids please? You don't show that one. Thanks
I wish they would make a 6.5 x 18 inch.
@@BJ7481 ok great! I looked but must have overlooked! I’ll take another look. Thank u!
Nice products but how to buy this
They are the best. I’m getting rid of all but CG.
I think CG, and some others, are just too "busy" for me. Great video, tho 😊

More - any recs for plastic templates to make custom specialty rulers - like a 3 and 7/8 square???
Hi, I haven't used it, but something like this maybe? amzn.to/3kqRslS
