      meee :) my husband and I stayed in La Punta at Zicatela Hotel last May and fell in love! I’ve been to Tulum and Sayulita as well but Puerto Escondido stole my heart.

      The best part is the unpretentious vibe!!!! I live here in PE and we’re definitely not Tulum. We love travelers and love our corner of paradise which is to be enjoyed without the self-importance.

    You nailed Tulum with one word in the outro: Pretentious! It's the Kardashian beach town of Mexico 🤢🤢🤢

    I visited Puerto Escondido in 1985 and there were only 2 hotels on the bluff. There only Mexican visitors and Surfers. I am happy to see your video and see that it hasn't grown much. It's a treasure. I remember the waiter at the hotel apologizing about the red snapper I ordered because it wasn't fresh, it was caught in the morning.🤗

    Comparing La Punta to Tulum hits the nail on the head - but not in a good way. There are so many beautiful beaches and bays on the Oaxaca Coast, and so much authentic Mexico to experience in PE and along the coast, why do so many people flock to what is becoming a generic (and overpriced) destination? Everyone is chasing the same wave, smoothie, acai bowl, iced coffee and instagram photo. A person could spend a week here and barely know they are in Mexico. You guys are talented and fun - why not introduce your subscribers to a place that hasn't been RUclipsd ad nauseam?

The chill vibe is totally pervasive, as you guys said, and I just fell in love with it and didn’t want to leave. I kept hoping I’d run into you guys but it didn’t happen. Just wondering if you checked out Dan’s Deluxe Cafe or La Olita during your stay.

    Hello - going to Puerto Escondido mid May - I wanted to know where are the working ATMS or money exchange places are exactly as you said they are very limited. And if you have any recommendations on airbnbs/hotels. TIA

    • @TravelWTravis
      @TravelWTravis  2 года назад

      There is one ATM (which was broken when we tried it) in the zicatela area, but all of the banks are in Centro, which was about a ten min cab ride from our place. We listed the Airbnb we stayed in the description (which we obviously loved) but there are tons of great places all around. Hope that helps and have a great trip!!

    Thank goodness for the rough sea. Otherwise that place would be overdeveloped and overrun with tourists like the rest of Mexico. Tulum is an ecocide in the making; it is supposed to be a "protected area" but thanks to corruption and uneducated tourists, everyday the jungle is being replaced by new construction. The rampant construction of new hotels, restaurants and beach clubs is destroying the environment at a shocking pace. You should see the massive mountains of garbage rotting in open-air landfills in the middle of the jungle. The city of Tulum lacks the proper infrastructure to cope with the massive influx of tourists.

    • @TravelWTravis
      @TravelWTravis  2 года назад +4

      Haha we don’t really, mostly because most places (outside of the big cities) don’t have dedicated gay bars - and we’ve both never really been big bar/club people (gay or otherwise) to begin with!

    When I visited Puerto Escondido I stayed in a hostel in La Punta. I enjoyed it a lot. Something about Oaxaca food just makes everything taste so good too! And of course, watching surfer dudes on the beach with a beer and snacks can't be beat! Are you going to go up the coast? If you hit Acapulco please do a day trip to Barra de Coyuca, or at least Pie de la Cuesta. You won't regret it - excellent beach. Zihuatanejo is beautiful. Pricey, but beautiful. Manzanillo isn't very touristy - which gives it a whole different vibe. Puerto Vallarta is unique and is México's gay destination. I live in Mazatlán, so if you are doing a coast trip then msg me and I'll show you around.
