Where I always enjoy your videos and look forward to seeing what’s new, this might be one where the suggestions are appreciated but not all agreed. So many people are doing the same cookie cutter styles with whites and neutrals, vases, target and hobby lobby, some I love. But design should be personal style too. If you have a room with rich mahogany and leather, I think a horse would be fine on a large desk, a crab on the shelf of your beach house, a crystal lamp in a Victorian themed room. Or a worded pillow for a holiday is ok, but I’m with you, not all over the house. Style should be fun and meaningful for everyone.
I think every one should buy what ever makes them happy at home goods. If you like the pretty pink floral arrangements then buy them what makes one person happy dos not always make every one happy. Every one has different taste and that is what makes the world go around.
I have TWO of the white lion heads sitting on my mantel with lighted topiary balls sitting in their crowns. They are FABULOUS sitting up there. At Christmas, I put lighted Christmas trees in their crowns and they are so gorgeous at the holiday. I am always looking for the whimsy in the room. Cheesy, to you perhaps, but oh what a conversation piece. And my mantel with those majestic lions are showstoppers. I have a surprise in every room of my house.
GASP! Not TWO lions! But I'm sure the fact that they're white and not a color makes them more palatable. Lol. I like Kristin, I just wonder who made her fear color.
Soon as she showed the lions I thought how cute they are! Your home sounds fun and interesting, I’d much rather see your place than some boring beige on white room with no character or personality.
I don’t like puffy quilts, I like to layer a couple thinner ones. Easier to wash up and I don’t want to mess with a duvet cover…it’s all about simplicity when you have pets 😊
I have a beach themed sun room with beautiful mermaid statues and sailboats and could see that white crab sitting on top of books on the center table beautifully. Maybe not in my bedroom or living room, but to each their own in decorating.
Good tips, Kristen. I styled our office decor 100% from Home Goods and received so many compliments. One guy asked me what decorator did our office use? HaHaHa...just little ol' me. It was a nice compliment. I get what you are saying about the animal statuary, but I really like the shell and coral pieces for a bookshelf or bathroom. To each his own, as they say. I do say that finding just the right thing is always about timing at Home Goods. I try to find out when their truck comes in and when new items will be stocked. It is definitely a first come, first serve situation, and if I find something I really, really like, I buy it. Chances are if I like it, someone else will too! Often I look through the Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and West Elm websites before I go to see what is trending. Then sometimes Home Goods has the exact same or very similar items.
The fact that Kristen said “to stay away from the animal decor” but I immediately fell in love with that white lion head 😩 lol I’m a Leo and I was in a gang that represented lions and now they are part of my life, now I watch decor videos 😳 crazy how life changes huh 😅😵💫
The company that mfgs and sells those and a ton of other "animal planters" and most of the decor you see in HomeGoods/TJX told me this market (Las Vegas Market to the trade only) that those pieces are on trend and huge sellers! I actually have several in my very unique eclectic home that everyone dies over. To each his own !! My aesthetic is not cookie cutter or a sea of beige and bland. Every piece is my home is a conversation starter, right down to my 6' disco ball bubble gum machine
I have cute tiny vintage ceramic animals all over my kitchen. They are in neutral tones and done very tastefully. I think it can be playful if you don’t go overboard and it’s done a certain way, just like anything. I get her point- there is a fine like between whimsical and fun, and cheesy/juvenile/tacky- but I wish she would’ve shown do’s and don’ts with the animals rather than banning them completely
I agree with almost everything. I saw that most of the animal statues looked pretty cheesy at your HomeGoods. However, a well made animal figurine could look gorgeous in a home. Especially if they lean more into the traditional style. For example, horses, birds. I have been collecting small brass animal figurines that I place in inconspicuous places around my home. It’s fun and it feels that you need to be on the lookout to see these animals. That said, they do not look cartoonish which is one reason animals can look tacky. Also, because they’re small and spaced out, my home doesn’t feel like a zoo 😜
A friend recently gave me 2 beautiful ceramic birds that are very different from each other. I love them! I'm on the lookout for a small brass bird for a different space.
Unfortunately in smaller markets, our store is rather small and we just don’t seem to get designer brands. They never have coffee table books for example, and the glassware selection has gotten worse. The only thing I didn’t agree with was black lampshades. I have some and they look rich. Every room needs a touch of black.
I have those crystal lamps in my bedroom and they are so pretty…especially when the sun is in the room. I disagree with having bright colours…I find it better than having all white or all beige!
Great video as usual lol.. but about the black lamp shades I totally disagree, I have 2 pottery barn bedroom lamps with black shades are they are so rich looking, they give the room a lovely calming feeling at night + they do not change the color of my walls.
I just bought 2 lamps from HG for $40 each. The dark blue shades tie in perfectly with the sofa pillows (same color) and curtains. I was fearful that they would change the color of the room (BTDT), but they didn't.
I know people who buy patio sets for indoor use. My grandmother had a patio dining set. It's very affordable for good quality. Some of those sets, especially with the sofas, are great values.
I also buy my flower planters from Home Goods and now is the time to grab them before they go. Also, I have purchased the 3 ft tall glass vases they sell and spray painted them neutral colors. Spray paint is a game changer so never turn down a good vase because you don’t like the color.
I'm generally with you about cheesy animal decor, but I found two unique pieces handmade in Africa at a museum gift shop and just couldn't resist them. They're not subtle, but they're small and layer in nicely with other, more standard pieces.
For safety reasons also, I’ve had a client who had a crystal lamp placed by a window, and the sunlight actually can get super concentrated by the crystal and set her rug on fire!
Wow thanks for that info!! My grandkids put my crystal on my tables that get sun so they can watch the "rainbows" and because of breakage with constant handling I usually just leave it in their spot they chose...😬
I think home decor & decorating is a personal thing. Not everyone likes the same things. That’s what makes every home unique. I’m that person that’s always attracted to floral anything as well as the occasional animal statue & beach items. I love both HOME GOODS & HOBBY LOBBY. Have found great treasures at both stores.
I agree with most of what you said but it’s really in the eye of the beholder and what makes a person happy. I love my bedroom lamp with the turquoise lamp shade. 😊
I appreciate your guidance ! Good advice . Personally , I enjoy statues, lamps , linens , art and one should check out higher end estate sales to come across vintage or antique finds , ie dog statues/figures , really quality and collectible treasures , not the mass produced you would find lining the shelves of Home Goods , Target, or any box store !!
WOW! I loved this video! I loved when you mentioned the « Don’t buy » and explained the reasons! I felt it was a decoration tips crash course! Loved it! Thanks!
I have no curtains at most windows, just blinds...these can be purchased in different colours as well. I think it makes for a cleaner look and cut down on dust too.
Great ideas! Home Goods is one of my favorite stores!❤️ I also used a basket with a lid when my son was little to store his toys. It looked good in the room and it was easy for him to get his toys out.
I've gotten a great pair of lamps, artwork, and a mirror from Ross Dress for Less, which is a sister store to TJ Maxx and Marshall's. I haven't purchased any home decor from Home Goods. I did overhear someone negotiate a lower rug price and got it! Richmond, VA is getting a Homesense store this year.
Another Absolutely Fantastic Video & Tips! I love all these videos! Old ones & New ones! You give so much valuable information on home decor. Keep sharing it with your audiences!
I agree, but we all have made this mistake. Either buying gifts for someone else etc. etc. I still will watch you. I still love what you do. Your work inspires me to see what I can create for my own taste. Lol
Kristen thank you for all your advise! I haven’t been visited Home Goods because I “grounded myself”😂 for overspending! Glad to hear that they have so many options, and cheaper for organizing. I have an excuse to go back! 😂
Great video! I agree with almost everything you said. Def don’t like the bright flowers and “crystal” lamp. I got a beautiful large rug and an incredible small credenza that all my friends want to steal! 😄
Hello! I would like to thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone. I am a big fan of yours and I appreciate everything you suggested. Thanks a lot please keep posting videos like this it’s very helpful ❤
I think having one statuesque animal like a bronze horse can be classic/timeless. But, yes, don't be doing a modern version of the roster themed kitchen.
The most classical decors like French provincial or English heritage all have animals in them somehow. Usually horses. But I love animals too and I think it can be done tastefully !
Thank you for doing this, it saves me so much time and spares me from looking and shopping for stuff I really should just skip. I'm not fond of shopping but you make it pleasant : )
Thank you Kristen for your suggestions I always love to see your ideas, I just bought a home and I'm certainly getting great ideas from you to decorate, you're awsome!
YOUR VIDEO HAS REALLY HELP ME TRYING TO MAKE DECORATING SO MUCH BETTER..LOVE HOW YOU MAKE YOUR HOME REALLY BEAUTIFUL AND COMFORTABLE. THANKS FOR TEACHING ME ABOUT HOMEGOODS REALLY APPRECIATE THAT. 👍
I agree with your choices and you have great style. I'm addicted to books of all kinds (my home is beginning look like a library!) and you're the first person I've heard mention the wonderful books at HG, especially the home decor books. Loved your video.
I agree with all your taste at homegoods except your view of black lampshades. In my decor, black is the best option, but I also like other colors as well to change things up. To me, white can be boring.
There is a HomeSense store in the Cleveland, Ohio area if anyone is interested in going there. Not sure of any other locations. I haven’t been there BUT i would LOVE to see it!!! 💕💕💕
Thanks. Last time I went to home goods I didn’t see many big baskets. I will have to go again and check and see if they have it in my area. If I am lucky, I hope they have the one with the lid.😊
I loved your video! I did understand that your speaking from a designer point and maybe some don't like that and want to do something else. I come here for your opinion as someone who needs guidance with this. Im guilty of buying alot of this stuff but agree its kinda tacky. ONE PIECE is ok. A whole themed room or house!? OMG is ridiculous and tacky for me now anyway. I have lived in Fla before and gone through the ocean themed whole home. In TX. now, but my house doesn't have cows everywhere. Lol. I want my home to reflect us, not a theme.
I am just over the stark white everything style. Mixing it up looks more stylish. I do agree with getting rid of the words telling you what to do, all over everything!
I have a question on bedding. I have a queen size bed. I have heard that you should buy a king comforter because it fits nicer. I would like you opinion.
It’s been my personal experience that linens run small , and I have had success using full sized on a twin bed , some king sizes on a queen . But , if you layer your linens , you can get by with queen on a queen if you roll them down as a “ look “.
Disagree on crystal lamps! I thing they can be very classy, as long as it’s not overdone. But do agree on keeping shades white, to bring in brightness.
Dear Kristen! I'm from Croatia (from Europe) and I'm new to your channel. I just wanted to tell you that I look forward to every new video! Do you know if there are similar stores like Target or HomeGoods in Europe? Thanks in advance and I always look forward to your tips and arrangements! Sanja from Croatia❤
I think home decor is just as subjective as art. If the animal statues aren't overdone, they're perfectly fine. A couple of statues don't make your home tacky. I see them in model homes, even upscale model homes all the time. So, I disagree with that opinion.
I agree. I highlight them (crabs, birds, etc) in my videos with the mindset of one or two in a room is okay. But i agree that too many isn’t doing your decor any good .
I agree with you, instead of not liking animals, she holds up a metal "0".lol Yeah, that definitely looks better than animals on your shelf. Be your own Designer for Your Own home!!!
I laughed when she said that instead of getting an animal, get something that is suggestive of the animal and holds up the O. And what animal did that suggest to you?
@@kathleenmueller153exactly what I thought. She was putting down things that someone living near the water or even a swimming pool in your yard would use to really play up your theme then holds up that big fat zero! I’ve seen other decorators use them and I think those will go out of style real fast. Also, the bright flowers are great for using outside mixed in with the real thing for color. I also use them for the wreaths I sell. -- Susan
I got a great pale rug with a subtle pattern using greys, 2 shades of blue and hints of red--all the colours of my throws and pillows). All natural fibres, too.
I bought a really great rug in HG 2 years ago. Couldn't find anywhere else what i liked. But it took a few trips to the store to finally find it. Take your time, enjoy 😉
HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE! I'm sharing all my designer tips for shopping at HomeGoods and finding all the best pieces!!😍🏡

So much great advice! I happen to love black lampshades, though! The eyes can tank after a while and bright light becomes gruesome!
I have them in my bedroom, love the calmness they give at night! I wouldn’t change them for the world…
I have no curtains at most windows, just blinds...these can be purchased in different colours as well. I think it makes for a cleaner look and cut down on dust too.

liked everything except the white lampshade. i found one that works in my space better but its a beige.
The HomeGoods next to my old place had the best snacks, coffee, spices, raw cocoa, nuts, chips..etc 😋
I think having one statuesque animal like a bronze horse can be classic/timeless. But, yes, don't be doing a modern version of the roster themed kitchen.

I bought that Tommy Hilfiger bistro set at Homegoods a couple of years ago and I love it!

The most classical decors like French provincial or English heritage all have animals in them somehow. Usually horses. But I love animals too and I think it can be done tastefully !

Kristen, I wish you did HOUSE CALLS in Buffalo NY lol

Can you kindly tell us the prices when you are at Home goods or IKEA please. I always enjoy each of your videos.
Yes she shows the price but we can't see it because it's too small price tags
Hi Kristen! I love Homegoods. Thanks for the tour. Your videos are my faves. Please keep them coming!
Kristen, can you get those pieces of furniture delivered or do you have to pick it up at the store?
I really appreciate the negative as well as positive reviews! I will check out the rugs.
Great tip on looking for glass wear at Home Goods…
I love your HG store better than ours. Our HG store is small and does not have many things like you show. HG is my favorite store

I agree. I highlight them (crabs, birds, etc) in my videos with the mindset of one or two in a room is okay. But i agree that too many isn’t doing your decor any good .
I agree with you, instead of not liking animals, she holds up a metal "0".lol
Yeah, that definitely looks better than animals on your shelf.
-- Susan
@@CheriJ11 O for fish mouth?
Dollar store has great organizers and glass decor at a much cheaper price. Especially if you need them in drawers or closets.
I was curious about your opinion of their candle section.
I am frustrated cause we don’t have homegoods in France. Love that you are back ❤
Oh same feeling here, we haven't either Homegoods or Target in the Netherlands, 😭

Great video! Thank you for the great information!
I love my animals on my bookshelf!!
I’m really struggling with rugs right now!! Gray walls, lt. Gray floors, white tile. Huge open areas!! Ugh got my door mats!! Lol
Sounds like you need color in the room. Colorful rug would be beautiful
