  • Our testing continues and we are still learning. In our next round I am going to take step back and readdress my airborne node design.

Cool Stuff! I put the Heltec in repeater on top of my Mini 3 Pro. I'm in Palm Beach, ony have one contact. Slinging the node can induce oscilations in the drone flight.

1:20 - 915 MHz loss in coax cable is bad. Much of the advantage you'd get from having the antenna farther off the ground would be offset by signal loss in the coax cable, even if you use good coax. Particularly with low power UHF signals, keeping the coax as short as possible is important. I mount LoRa antennas to the LoRa devices, or given that the good antennas are large, it's more true to say that I mount the LoRa devices to their antennas.

@@RavenwoodAcres - Thank you for getting out, doing propagation experiments, and sharing them with us. Amazing how nothing seems to go right when trying new stuff. Endeavor to persevere! 😀

It looks like you had a single line holding the RAK? Would two lines stabilize it enough to keep it from spinning or is the thrust from the drone still to strong?
Have you tested the SWR of Y antenna with a VNA to verify the specs? It looks compact. Im curious about using one.

Good point about a second line. I just received my Nano VNA and testing it soon.

My home base is Southwest Washington State. However, I am living and working for Europe for at least the next year.

Did you try hard mounting the t beam at first? I’m curious if the few feet hanging below is really making that much of a reduction in interference.. I’m likely going to try to hard mount mine.

No, currently have my solar node on one of those satellite dish tri-pods. I seen a lot of people use j-poles for hard mounting. In that configuration you can mount your enclosure under the house eve.

@@RavenwoodAcres sorry, I meant heard mount to your drone, as opposed to hanging it below!
