Mercy, that's good! Jerry Reed is one of the greatest musicians and songwriters to ever grace this world with his presence. Chet was no slouch, either. 😁
Chet was no nonsense. They worked so well together it seemed because Jerry was constantly innovating and needed someone logical and disciplined like Chet to keep the ship sailing straight?
The chemistry and respect among these two guitar masters were something to behold back in the day. Makes me smile every time i watch this video. Two of the best to ever strap on a 6 string..
Dang it these two gentlemen could play. Their playing was so understated and smooth. Ridiculous chops! Their stage presence was so relaxed and funny. What a fantastic time capsule.
I never did get to see Jerry, but I saw Chet when I was 11 or 12. He made the crowd feel as if we were all sitting on a big front porch, just hanging out...while he played the most amazing music!
Two gentlemen spotlighting each other who obviously have a tremendous amount of respect for each other, and doing what they obviously love. How awesome - thank you for posting this.
Jerry is str8 rocking that Dracula-approved shirt collar...LOL! Yes indeed, you gotta love the 1970s music and fashion. Respect and RIP to two of the greatest guitarists ever, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed.
@@muchanadziko6378And I disagree with your idea that Jesus Christ isn't our lord, and savior. But that's fine you believe what you want to believe, and I'll believe what I want to believe. It speaks to me of better times when these two and other great players of my youth were still alive, I haven't been able to listen to country radio for 20 years......
If you ever hear Chet miss a note, mark it on your calendar because it's very rare ! He's was one of the cleanest players ever to pick up a guitar. Every note he picked seemed to come out perfect, almost machine like !
I saw this when it 1st aired I couldnt imagine Chet ever playing a Telecaster ! Chet is the only reason I ever picked up a guitar always will be my hero .
These two country gentlemen were my first inspiration, when I first picked up a guitar. I got good - real good, but never as good, or even close, to these two country gentlemen. Unfortunately, my hands couldn’t take the arthritis pain. I put the guitar away in 2014. I still love listening to the “old masters.”
your story is like mine. I played and played and played, but after studying Jerry Reed for a couple years I realized that maybe I should find another job. I once met him at a fair in West Virginia. Jerry was shaking hands with the fans after his show. I shook his hand and said "I've been trying to play like you for 20 years and I still can't do it". Jerry said "Neither can I !"
Jerry Reed was remarkably diverse. He could so comfortably portray a simple hillbilly. I don't mean that disparagingly. If one was unfamiliar, they would never guess that there was such a complexity of thought and prodigal level talent within him. The acting and the comedy were really a joy to witness. Then to be taken to school with these guitar chops AND the writing. Honey, hush!
This is what talent and mutual respect between two musical behemoths looks like , take a picture and listen to every note because this my friends , is also what you call extinct in todays music!
I ALWAYS LOVE hearing 2 TALENTED guitar players playing twin harmony with each other and Chet and Jerry were the FINEST/SMOOTHEST ever. They knew each other's moves so well they blended like they were ONE guitar!!
Chet Atkins was great his wife was my uncle's wife meet her once at my aunt's funeral my sister went to there house for a family reunion i believe she said they had a swimming pool shaped like a getar
Think Chet was throwing a little shade at Tele's, saying to leave the G string flat or it will fret sharp. True words. And with the 3 saddles you cant intonate them properly. But Chet still sounds like Chet on a Tele. And I love Tele's, its just a fact theyre flawed.
@@old-time-family-cooking yes. I know. His full name was Jerry Reed Hubbard. Reed was for playing, Hubbard for writing. Pretty clever. And he was a great talent.

There's very few performers that ALWAYS put a smile on my face. Jerry Reed is one of those few.
I love these chet and Jerry videos.
One of the few, that chet will let touch his guitar,,,
Only Jerry Reed would lay his hands on the guitar strings while Chet Atkins plays.
Lennt Breau could but wouldn't.
Jerry was always humble and made it be known that if it wasn't for Chet Atkins,....
there never would have been a Jerry Reed.

A compliment from a gentleman.

My favorite guitarists. Throw Merle in there too.
Jerry Reed married chet Adkins daughter
Years have passed and we are still able to listen to and love their music thanks to the best parts of technology.
These guys played like melted butter...the talent just oozed. The talent shows because it looks absolutely effortless.

Two great masters of the guitar playing a wonderful song! May God bless you, Chet and Jerry!! You are very much missed!
These guys are just great...
I don’t know why , but sometimes, listening to Chet and some of his tunes, makes me emotional . …
Just pure gold.
Lovely, and sad to think neither are with us any longer.
Absolutely, they were both superb players (two of the best ever) and even better people. We love and miss both of you!!!
At least they left us with a trove of recordings to remember them.
They are always near us and I am blessed to have lived in their time. Seen their televised performances.
Lol, you’re watching them.
I can't tell you why this song makes me cry every time I hear it but I kinda hope that's exactly what I hear before I go home to the Lord.
Lol
I agree with everything you said
Other than . . . there is no "lord" different from perfection of personal expression

Me too brother!!
Country music often appears as a sane, relaxed alternative to rock, blues, jazz etc.
More avant garde than the traditional roots country music. The pioneer of that style didn’t call it country.
2 incredible players
I sure miss them both. Such amazing people
Such great playing, melodic and pleasing to the ear.
My God….how awesome was that?
I don't think teles have ever sounded better.
I agree
+1
A couple of national treasures, gone but they left us with some damn good recordings.

Love that. Check out those huge collars on Jerry's shirts. Such a crazy talented guy.
I watch this video again and again. Great fit and great times!
Awesome as always. that's the only time that I've ever seen Chet play a fender telecaster.
Jerry reed, on of the very few that I've seen that could hold their own on stage with Chet.

Excellent. Brings back memories
Amazing beautiful song. RIP Chet and Jerry.
Beautiful
Notice how chet doesn't try to play over him.instead waits and trys to add his tasty fills to enhance Jerry. True professional
Both of them in their prime. Spectacular !!
I hear Merele Travis influence coming through in that tune. That is the best part of music tradition.

yes
I’m waiting for the biopic of Chet Atkins where Tim Blake Nelson plays him. I think that’s a spot-on casting
Listen and learn, children. 👌

Can't imagine having the nuts to put my hand on Chet Atkins' guitar to make him stop playing!

My goodness that is one heck of a collar Mr. Reed is sporting
So great..the both of them
holy cow an actual video of chet playing chinatown

Chet had a wicked sense of humor! I heard him say once, "All of this Gentleman Jim Reeves stuff is a bunch of shit..... He'd kick your ass!"
I wish Chet would have played Tele more often. I really like that tone
August 2023 ❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🇨🇦
Chet on a B-Bender of all things....
Yeah that kinda shocks me too
Both playing Telecasters 😮🎶🥰
Man, I love this so much!
Interrupting Chet's playing, is like stealing Tony Soprano's gabagool.
A tune Jerry Reed can't play... I must know more 😂
Unusual to see either of them with a Tele. Wonder if there was some sort of promotion or sponsorship going on.
Yeah, maybe. But the Tele's sounded sweet with these 2. Sometimes Jerry would play Peaveys, which sounded awful, I am sure it was a promotion.
We all need our wanger!
Frost the snow man 🙌🏻🎸..
What’s the tune Chet plays right before getting to Baby’s Coming Home?…
Chet holding down 3/4 of that 😆
"you want to play something, i already beat you to that line" LMAO
a question:who has composed Baby's coming home? C.Atkins or J.Reed?
That's what they said in the intro.
This tune was written by Jerry Hubbard.
Loudermilk or something like that.
