the professionalism D.O. displayed here was impeccable. he got injured right from the start where they jumped off those tables but he was able to endure and perform until the end of it. the adrenaline must've help as well but as soon as the stage ended it wore off and he passed out.
"Wolf and the Beauty" is the literal translation of the Korean and Chinese titles for Wolf, but it's also commonly referred to by it's English name Wolf^.^ There are a few other EXO songs that have titles like this; some of the ones that people get confused by or don't know often are:
- Baby Don't Cry (it's Korean & Chinese name translates to A Mermaid's Tears)
- Don't Go (it's Korean and Chinese name translates to Butterfly Girl) [this is the one that confuses people from EXO's Killing Voice title~]
- Angel (it's Korean and Chinese name translates to Into Your World)

I find this performance special, especially knowing that D.O. injured himself though still continued to perform.
In EXO's MAMA 2013 "Beauty and the Beast" performance:
> The girls in white that the camera keeps panning to in the audience are Seohyun and Hyoyeon from Girls' Generation (SNSD), which are labelmates to EXO. They are EXO's older sister group and they debuted in 2007.
> Yep, the guy with the yellow hair with the sunglasses, that looks like he is just too cool, is G-Dragon from BigBang, which is a YG Entertainment group, that debuted in 2006.
> The guy next to GD is L from Infinite, which is a Woollim Entertainment group, that debuted in 2010.
> The girls sitting next to L are members of APink, who are from Cube Entertainment, which debuted in 2011.
> The guy the camera focuses on that smiles and waves at the camera is Hoya from Infinite and he is known as one of the top dancers in the industry, so I think the cameraman was hoping to get a reaction from him with EXO's dancing. (He wasn't saying he likes it twice, he put his fingers up to make a peace symbol. LOL)
> The girl at the very end who was singing along was Jung EunJi, the main vocalist of APink.
They are all well known artists and seniors to EXO. The majority of the TV viewers and the entire audience at the show would know who all those idols are.
One of the reasons why I think it looked like most of the idols they showed in the audience weren't really into the performance was because of the way this performance was designed. EXO was performing more for the cameras and the people watching them on TV at home, then they were for the audience at the award show, so there wasn't a whole lot for any of the other idols to react to. Which is why they may have looked like they weren't paying attention. I think if you were in the audience, for most of the performance all you would have seen was cameramen blocking your view of what was going on on stage. Plus, most of them also performed at the award show that night, so they might be tired after performing as well.
You're right, the guy in the beginning of the performance, who brings the girl out on stage, is Luhan. (He was the one with the pink hair in their "Growl" MV.) He was one of the main/lead vocalists and the center of EXO-M, who was also often recognized for his dancing. As you can see, Kai and Luhan were main characters in this performance.
In the beginning they danced on school desks and they were wearing fancy versions of school uniforms because, if you remember, they are supposed to be students in their "Growl" performance MV. And they are also students in their "Growl"/"Wolf" drama video that accompanies their "Growl" and "Wolf" comebacks.
Just like in their MVs for "Growl" and "Wolf," the camera is supposed to represent the girl who the EXO members are competing for her attention. So, in this performance, you are supposed to imagine that the camera is the girl watching them. They are all trying to get her attention and make her fall in love with them. Which is why this performance is titled Beauty and the Beast -- EXO are the beasts who are competing for the attention of the beauty.
Some say the "girl" that EXO is always singing about and you sometimes see in their MVs and performances, like this one, is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members are always rescuing or protecting the girl, and why all their songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, etc. It's all part of their storyline.
Yes, this performance has all 12 members because Kris and Luhan didn't leave the group until 2014 and Tao didn't leave until 2015.
Something to note about this performance is that if you look closely you will see D.O. is limping during most of this dance, and yet he kept on dancing despite the fact that he sprained his ankle as he jumped off his desk at the beginning of the performance. No one even knew he was injured until he went backstage after their performance and collapsed. He actually was on crutches and had a splint for a while.
In the middle of the performance they remixed "Growl" and "Wolf" to make it special for this award show. In award shows they are not only performing for fans, but there are fans of other groups, as well as their industry peers watching them. Plus, the show is broadcast on national television, so a lot of people that may not even know who they are could be watching at home. Therefore, they want to give an amazing performance that outdoes everyone else to make sure people remember them and they become the talk of the night. That's why award show performance are always 10 times more epic than any other performances and everyone always puts a lot of effort into creating unbelievable stages.
The fighting scene is between Kai and Luhan because, if you watch their "Wolf" and "Growl" drama video you will see that Kai and Luhan are in love with the same girl and they are competing for her attention, which this performance is sort of a continuation of that story. The drama version MV combines their two songs "Growl" and "Wolf" and it's like a mini K-drama that is more like a movie or TV show with a complete story and the members playing characters, ruclips.net/video/sFCvZUSnuus/видео.html. Plus, Kai -- with the power of teleportation -- is the center of EXO-K and Luhan -- with the power of telekinesis -- is the center of EXO-M, so they were often connected within EXO's storyline back then.
Then after the fight scene, you see it transition to "Wolf" where, as you saw, they make the iconic picture of the Tree of Life.
"Wolf" was EXO's first comeback after their debut and it's part of their XOXO album and "Growl" is the lead track on their repackaged XOXO album. Both of these songs came out in 2013, so these were EXO's new songs at this time. Which is why they performed them at this award show.

I remember some video that shows some mess ups. When Sehun forgot to sing his lines, and the others were glaring at him until they all smiled. Seeing DO go from scowling to grinning at Sehun is so funny.
I know I’ve heard DO and Baekyun hit wrong notes. And that final award show where EXO was treated so shabbily - they came out looking angry and were off tune a lot!
As a vocalist, Baekhyun has always been known for the ease with which he moves between registers and the amount of emotion he can convey with a song.
Baek, Chen, and DO did Miracles in December. I can’t think of any others with just the three mains off the top of my head. There are more Baek, Chen, DO, and Suho songs I think, like Lights Out and Stronger.

Some of the context is missing here because there is a VCR/video bit of plot before they come out onto stage. A lot of werewolf plot for this mini concept of Growl and Wolf. Wait until you see the VCR/ acting bit they did for the Melon awards that year. Hilarious and legendary (and to watch Shinee react to it kills me every time ahahahaha)

This was the first video with EXO that I ever watched and fully paid attention to!~ It was a random recommendation, cause it was in liked late 2014 or early 2015 (well after this performance was uploaded)~ But I was instantly smitten, especially by Luhan^.^ I spent the next few days devouring everything I could get my hands on. But, because I did it in mostly chronological order, I didn't know Luhan had left until I spent like 2 days watching stuff. Luckily, by then, I had watched enough with the rest of the members to still become an EXO-L~~~^.^
Kyungsoo soldiered it this performance - he fainted and was on crutches right after and couldn't be on stage to collect the award - he got injured as they jumped of the desks

The two centres Kai and Luhan! They really were centres. Kai still does an excellent job, but it was so much fun having the two of them. Beauty and the Beast is the combination of both songs with the 'werewolf' concept backed by the Twilight spoofs. You see the girl - the Beauty - at the beginning with Luhan.
There are compilations of them going wrong - usually denoted by the link to proving that they are live rather than the mistake. And yes, Chanyeol is great at corpsing, closely followed by the others.

The ‘holy trinity’ have a song from their first winter album called ‘miracles in December’ of which there are a number of amazing live performances. There is also a song called ‘my answer’ which is performed by d.o., Baekhyun and Suho (or d.o., lay and chen for the Chinese version) which is also amazing live.

HAPPY 12TH ANNIVERSARY TO EXO! APRIL 8TH IS THE DAY! They are having a 12th Anniversary Fan Meeting today that is supposed to be televised, but I'm not sure if we get to see it yet.
As you know Exo's concept, they are aliens. When they were sent to Earth to help protect us from The Red Force, they came and disguised themselves as humans, but considering how young Exo were at this time of debut, they went with the idea that they as humans were young kids at a high school, thus the various styles of school uniforms. And as boys will be boys, they may sometimes fight over a girl in school as they are doing here.
Exo also had a very short drama that was put out as part of Exo's introduction to the public....as students in a high school trying to hide their powers yet having conflicts over this girl and protecting her.
That being said, if you were to watch the full performance, which is on YT, you would've caught the very beginning vcr showing the boys at this totalitarian, dystopian school, in Germany (I assume) being chained to their desks (I figure their powers were found out, therefore they were chained.. also their powers to turn into wolves when angered)
To me, to see this vcr makes the whole performance complete. It's only a couple of minutes long.
This performance had been highly anticipated by the audience, and tv audiences alike, I watched this live as I was in love with this new group Exo at the time.
I love seeing baby Exo again. Of course at this time "Growl" was all the rage in Asia, as Exo slowly gained a massive worldwide fandom back then with this song, going viral.
Exo went up against very well established groups like Infinite, Shinee, Gdragon, Big Bang, Apink and Girls Generation in this era.
To be so wildly popular and nominated for a MAMA straight out of debut is unheard of...that's how significant "Growl" was at the time.
And the MAMA'S are like the Grammy's of Asia.
I think the idols sitting around up front were probably sick of this song, and also annoyed at this baby group even being within their league and nominated, AND performing (to the obvious glee of the audience) Everyone were waiting for Exo to perform, and as these award shows can run up to 4 hours long, they usually if not in the middle of the show, then in the later half of the show, will put the very popular groups on.
This night was a Gdragon night though, as he was projected for wins throughout, and did walk away with several awards as expected.
I was very proud of Exo, as a brand new group. And even more proud as Exo, among all these big contenders (Gdragon included), walked away with "Album of the Year" at THEE very end of the show, when the biggest award of the night is reserved at all award shows. Oh what a great feeling!
This win projected Exo foward into their very incredibly popular careers, but even more so, it's because of their vocals....that fact was clear from their pre-debut songs, and it solidified their indelible mark in the kpop industry.
I suggest you watch Exo winning this award, there is a video on YT... they are precious.

If you know the lyrics of Wolf then story is basically beauty and the beast but the twist is that Wolf has to kill beauty in order to break his curse. Its honestly tragic. You guys need to check out their vcr of this award 😂 it was a Twilight remake. SHINee's reaction still lives rent-free in everyone's mind. In happier news, BaekChenD.O sing a song called Almost Paradise together for a music show. They also sing a cover of Open Arms with Luhan on a radio show too. Those are the most notable ‘Holy Trinity’ performance cause oddly, I don’t think they SPECIFICALLY sing as a trio very often.

D.O. injured his ankle when he jump down from the table at the beginning (ToT)/~~~ He straight to the hospital after the performance and miss to accept the Album of the year award with OT11. The next day he was with crutches. DO are very professional and talented, love EXO 🫶🏻
Love this performance so much, but it hurt my heart seeing my first lovethere. Luhannnn. And my heart hurt even more thinking how kyungsoo enduring pain for the whole performance that he need to go to the hospital immediately after n missing their first major award ever only to the seen at the airport wearing crutches the next day.

oh, there's a video of an EXO concert where Baekhyun's voice cracked mid song and Chanyeol couldn't recover from it. DO had to exert some self control, too. they finished well but it was so funny.
DO also has a video where he made a mistake mid song. can't remember if he missed the key change or the tempo. Chanyeol was on the piano accompanying him.
On that fateful night, 10 years ago, rookie EXO won their First Ever Daesang 'Album Of The Year' award in MAMA!
KYUNGSOO was not able to join EXO during their acceptance speech as he had to be rushed to the hospital due to the sprain he suffered.

If I remember correctly, Miracles in December is the only Holy trinity song. There are some that has Suho in it too.
it is such an incredible performance but at the same time very painful knowing that D.O. was actually injured during the performance. He actually injured himself while jumping off the desk hence you can see him limping on some choreo, also, if I'm not mistaken this is the first time they received their Daesang award and D.O. was unable to be with them on the stage bcos of the injury.

I laughed when you said Chanyeol is the Beast while Baekhyunee is the beauty, couldn't agree more but it doesn't come into my mind whenever I watch this video. I love this performance but every time I see it I only look at D.O.'s feet, the poor guy did the whole performance with a bad ankle, as soon as he started when he got off the table he hurt himself and still he performed the whole performance, as soon as he finished the performance he went to the hospital and ended up with crutches...
