I was surprised too, considering all the Thay references and his grimoire itself being stolen. If you read that dudes journals (where you get the book) it talks about how the Thayans have been coming for him to take the book and he is in hiding.

A really over simplified explanation: Szass Tam is a really chill deficient dude, and an ally betrayed him. The ally was able to stoke a bunch of hatred towards him by making a bunch of crap up, including that he had destroyed whole nations with a certain spell. Well Szass wasn't exactly pleased with what happened, so he created the spell and did the thing. He is alive during the time of the games, is referenced alongside his nation of Thay. Dude is basically Fehruns king of necromancy.

lol if halsin said this you definitely deserved it. I find it extremely easy to raise his approval. It’s probably harder not to get him to have high approval. Just be nice and say nice things and he will like you

I like how the women in camp give approval when you let him join the camp, and by the end of act 2 they switch it up and basically call him a bum and remark how they are suprised he is actually going to do something for once. I dont know what broke in the game, but I havent been able to get that quest off him, forcing me to restart the damn playthrough multiple times. I didnt invite this guy to camp, so that he can be useless for almost the entire game, just to tell me he is in love with me, even though we literally only spoke 3-4 times. The amount of horniness in this game is actually pretty uncomfortable. Even when the women do it. At least Shadowhearts romance makes a little sense. You have a nice date, kiss and agree to take things slow and see where they go. Lae'zel and Karlach are also pervs. Lae'zel turns into the Booty Warrior, and Karlachs romance is just sad and always feels like Im taking advantage of a desperate person.
Women never acted like that about Halsin in my party. What is a shame is that he appears in Act 1 but only really joins our party in the end of Act two. It's a bit strange how it's made but, if I am not we Rong, Halsin and Minthara weren't suppose to be part of our team at the beginning. That's why it seems a bit made up. But now for my OC, the fact that Halsin is into her is not a problem at all cause I really like this character. I liked the way is flirts with our character...but yes, companions are all super horny in this game 😅
