@@marcusellby Boox had buttons on their older devices. They followed trends unfortunately and removed not only buttons, but headphone jack (this is when it was popular to do so lol). Now they started bringing buttons back on some devices again... Imo they just care to sell more devices by making them look all shiny and modern, instead of making em more user friendly- or actually usable. They can't still figure out software well enough...
Kiddle has a setting of "use volume button for page turner". Hence, on boox' setting it has to remain as VOLUME BUTTONS, and then switch on that button on Kindle's setting.
My guess is they're testing the market with this device to see if they should eventually release a version with SIM support. I might actually get one then.
They aren't testing the waters. They are a tablet company and it's the second iteration of this "small tablet" if you are interested by a eink phone tho look at hisense they have some like the a9 that are interesting
Got the device and love it for reading - very pleasant to hold and travel around with it. However, I think it lacks heavily in the software department. Mine turned off the other day. When I attempted to turn it on, it asked for a 4(?) digit code... which I never set as I only had a fingerprint unlock. Well, got bless Reddit so I found how to reset it. Quite annoying that.
I have the go 6, it's cheaper, wider, like it more. Quickly found easy ways to optimize the device, and now I'm curious how well the palma 2 would preform if you ADB deleted the worthless ai app, and boox home screen like I did on my 6. You'd need another home launcher, but I bet it would be 👌
Oh, so thats how you do the squirt test, interesting ... I think. But that device it makes me wosh that I liked reading. They should offer it up as a tablet with a stylus, now that would seal the deal.
if you really want this feature just buy those cheap phone and turn on Grayscale + Eye Protection feature! OR if you phone didn't have this setting for some reason just get the "Blue Light Filter" Apps just you didn't get same experience like paper alike such as screen still visible under sun or rugged screen, the battery doesn't drop quick & etc.
Too bad it is not an e-paper smartphone as per title. Maybe changing the tile would help? Interesting device, but I don't see what is the appeal, unless this has a proper phone capability.
I don't really see the point of this device... Even when reading kindle it could give me a migraine with that refresh rate. (And you can just download kindle on any and every phone I'm pretty sure)
Just because you can make something doesn't mean you should. If you want to be an e-reader, you'd better be a good one, which this device doesn't seem to be good at anything.
spurty,1 all draw on saturday......ok my s24 was with me on the way to hammersmith with a few beers on board so i couldn't get to the game. ok back to tech...errrrrrrrrrr beer and spirit tech? Blue label johnnie walker overpriced just like apple products.
I'm struggling to understand why anyone would buy this when you could get an old used Android phone or tablet for way cheaper that has a color screen and better performance. My old LG G6 works great for reading eBooks.
I read on my phone inside but in direct sunlight the screen tends to wash out, then I use my Kindle because e-ink screens are nicer in direct sunlight. The main issues is my Kindle is too big for my pocket. This device is the perfect size though.
I use it for "digital detox" you have a connected device but it's not really great for social media and doesn't to messaging so can use it to chekc news and read etc without being distracted
Thanks for checking out my Boox Palma 2 review, you're proper lovely you are. What do you reckon, is a phone-sized eReader a good plan?
@@TechSpurt I don't see the point of a phone sized e-reader. Maybe if it folded in half & opened to a square?

For devices like this, I think a nav button bar would work much better than gestures
Or actual buttons

Uncle Spurt has often said something was buggy, but that's an understatement of mind boggling proportions for this product!
CoD on an e-paper display? You are a god.
No there's only one real one
Haha thank you, my best guess is my opponents were a bunch of toddlers who managed to nick their parents' phones
This feels illegal.
I wish reviewers didn't keep calling it a phone - I'd love a decent e-ink phone with a good camera.
Agreed!
Hisense A9 . Best eink smartphone by a mile
@@andreass4165 best eink smartphone but not a good smartphone
@@andreass4165 Is the camera good though?
It's as expensive as a phone, running Android, it has an ear piece and microphone. It is a phone without a sim card.
Video on that screen is kind of like reading a magical newspaper with moving graphics.
It makes my brain hurt a bit
Not having a sim card support is one of the dumbest decisions I've seen
This is not a smartphone small but e-reader. This title is not correct, that's all.
Having a sim card and all its related feature would have literally doubled the price.
It's an ereader and it helps with digital detox
He has corrected the title @@neru_d
just like the samsung galaxy player or ipod touch, (smartphones without the phone part)
I'm so glad I pushed English learning far enough so I can understand your sophisticated jokes.
Sophisticated is quite a stretch but thanks!

I still personally feel like if it doesnt have sim support, it's not a phone
Because it's not. Uncle spurt is loosing his marbles calling it a phone when the company doesn't do that.
To turn pages in the Kindle app with the volume buttons you have to turn on the setting within the app itself and not in the device settings.
For an e-ink display the refresh rate does seem to be quite good 😁
On this screen, you shoot first ask questions after
Absolutely, good thing you can't plug your own team mates!
WHAT IS THAT LED in the background and where can I GET IT ^^ hha
You were watching videos on there?! That’s pretty impressive for e ink.

Nope.
Sad state of affairs

Being able to play call of duty on e-ink book reader is pretty mental and exciting at the same time! Be good if you could have a pen to jot notes too
I low key love this idea. For someone like me who doesn’t like to be “in touch at a moments notice” it solves a lot of desires for me.
I wonder how good it is for reading pdf files.
Remember its always faster to swap to your secondary than reloading
What do you use for removing bloatware please ?

ADB Appcontrol
Universal ADB Debloater

Misleading titles leads to angry comments from others viewers who just don’t understand what this product is. It’s a phone sized, android e-reader.

I hate how reviewers are calling this thing smartphone when there isn't even any cellular connectivity here.
What's your daily phone?
Please make a video on web browsing speed

The name should be Potato phone😂
bro, i don't get WHAT you review. I'll gobble it ALL UP!!!!! LETS GOOOOO

"Android eReader shaped like a smartphone" From the description...which should have been the title.
This is DOA. They improved NOTHING.
Why get this if you have a smartphone?
Its a tiny e-ink reader. You get it for the same reasons you get a Kindle.
Why?
So, not a phone in any way, shape or form then? Talk about click bait for the ranking! I guess "phone" gets you higher than "e reader" eh?
COD multiplayer is full of bots unless you get to high ranks
On next subject 😒😒😡😡
It's cool but I don't see the purpose. Now we're supposed to carry a big ass phone and this thing in around in our pockets?
The fact it didnt come with android 14 is stupid tbh android 15 is the newest os why add 2 year old os

Smartphone shaped like an eReader :
Android Settings > Developer Options > Simulate Color Space > Monochromacy
That won't make your screen more usable in sunlight though. E-ink also uses no power when the screen is static which is neat.
