@@nenadvidojevic8746 Ngl I didn't know you could turbo a carburetted engine before this. Does the fuel go through the turbo? Isn't that bad for the turbo?
@@TheRogueAdventurers yep, the fuel goes through the turbo... They say it's not the best for turbo longevity, although some older vehicles came from the factory the same way. They call it a "draw through" setup... You can also run a carb after the turbo instead ("blow through" setup), which is better, but as said above, the carb needs a few mods, or needs to be placed in a sealed box (basically the pressure inside the bowls needs to build with boost pressure, or it's gonna... well... work "backwards")
Thats exactly what I was thinking... I had never seen a carb fitted in front of a turbo. I'm surprised that even runs. These boys need to get themselves a 4 barrel carb and fabricobble an intake manifold, then feed the turbo into it.
Martyn Watson it can’t be a good thing to have the intake hoses collapsing under vacuum. Also carb after turbo would avoid the icing they’re experiencing.
Back in the 80's I had few draw through turbo/carb set ups. The intake piping was all solid aluminium. What happen is that when the manifold is under high vacuum the turbo impellor is almost freespooling (it isn't drawing much air, which takes energy). That results in higher turbo shaft rpm's. Works well with the side benefit of charge cooling. Primitive, but it worked. I also ran a 30% water/methanol injection upstream of the carb. This does cause impellor leading edge erosion over time though.
You should use a dual carb induction setup, it will give you more flow into the turbo and allow for a little smaller jet size between the two(compared to just one carb) to increase fuel atomization. Also if it has a blow off valve try using a stronger spring to allow more boost.
@@welloffthepace3127 Because most carbs run with atmospheric pressure so they don't work properly when you give them boost. You can tune one for a higher pressure than one bar, but that isn't helpful when the boost is varying a lot like on a turbo.
