John, it is great to see you back at it again! I am happy you are feeling better.

The advantage of having a battery connected to your RAMLink is the ability it gives you to tear down your machine and physically transport it to another location... set it all back up and find all your stuff still present and accounted for. I used to be an officer for my local Commodore Users Group so doing that was something I did fairly often for our monthly meetings. These days, however, I don't have any other locations to where I'd need to a Commodore with me so a standard UPS is probably perfectly fine for keeping its content intact - although a battery for a RAMLink is said to be able to last for 6-8 hours. My problem right now is locating the wires which connect the RAMLink to the battery's terminals.

Ramlink rocks, its like loading off a cartridge. I dont think there is anything out there as fast. Battery backup is a bit of a pain, but its worth it!

Where can the wires for connecting a RAMLink to it's battery's terminals be found and purchased today? I need two... and would be happy to buy more for possibly future expansion before-the-fact.

This is so useful. I wish I had seen it before spending a couple hours testing a RamLINK i'm adding to a 128d.

Nice refresher course. I'm getting my final Ramlink and I needed to know about the reu port access and this video really helped me. Of course I'm using a 4MB reu, but if I can run 2 together we are getting someplace.

I had a friend that passed away probably 20 years ago. His wife gave me his CMD RAMLINK & his CMD HD-40.

I also got a 300dpi Grey Scale Hand Scanner for the C64 also.

Please do a follow-up video to this, specific to the "timing" wire for these devices. In the late 1990s, I bought a RAMLink and fitted it with 16MB RAM. I still have it. I just bought a 2nd RAMLink also with 16MB RAM. It too has that wire but I've never been sure of exactly how to connect it correctly if it's needed. I understand it is only needed for use with C64s and C128Ds - while "flat" C128s don't need it. Where can those wires be purchased? I'll take 5. :)

I used to want to run my own Commodore BBS out of my apartment 30 years ago but my then-wife absolutely said "no" because she thought the modem would be screeching at all crazy times of the day and night and I didn't know for sure if that was true or not. I could do it these days, however, but I don't know a thing about setting one up now that everyone's using broadband. More info on that would be welcome.

I have never seen a C64 load anything so fast! Wow!

10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast It really is an incredible device. CMD products were so far ahead of anything else at the time for the 8bit Commodores.

I had friends in the 1990s who had C64s in the 1980s before JiffyDOS and all of these *awesome* CMD devices existed. By then they'd all moved on to Windows and could never understand why I'd continued to use my Commodores even up to the year 2000 at which point my career changed and forced me to move to Linux. They had no clue that CMD has made those machines so fast and powerful. All they could remember was "LOADING..." on their screen all the time. Sometimes, though, you just can't get through to people no matter how much evidence you have to defend your case.

Wouldn't mind clones of the Ramlink, FD2000, FD4000, 1581, CMD hard drive, etc. Expand the functionality of the Commodore 64.

Best devices made for the 64 IMO

Apparently the contents of CMD's proprietary chips, etc. are encrypted and no one's been successful at reverse engineering them as a result.

It exsists replicas of all CMD devices, all chips were read and rewritten. It is just a legal question to publish this. See in german Forum64.

I'm trying to make a timing clip and am wondering which side of the power clip the timing wire connects to.
Do you happen to know this information please?
    Thanks so much

Sorry I do not. It's been a while since I have been able to play with one.

I just won an auction for a 16MB RAMLink several days ago. It should arrive later this week. If you need me to send photos or something of the timing clip and wire that comes with it, I can. I myself would like to have several of those wires since I now own 2 RAMLinks and will potentially be moving it between multiple different machines from time to time as needed.

I used to run a Fidonet BBS on a PC, what software are you using for the C64 for your BBSes?

    • @commodore4ever
      @commodore4ever  5 лет назад +3

booleanenator I use Color 64 v7.37 which I modified to work with a SuperCPU and I run Centipede also.

@@commodore4ever thanks, I have been thinking about starting several BBSes myself as a sort of BBS software museum. The PC ones would easily run as virtual machines. I could use VICE for the Commodore ones, but running them on real hardware is most of the fun.

What is the stats on the memory that the ramlink uses?, (I am looking for a 16MB kit myself)

Hi John im not 100 percent sure how to get ahold of you but i was told by a few people to try to contact you about the ramlink. I found a big lot of commodore stuff some is rare and i was wondering if maybe we could chat about some of it if you had the chance. My facebook is my name if you could contact me i will send you pics of what i found. I had a few museums ask about it but i want to get all the info about it i can first.. Thank you
