Late reaction but wow that's very nice. I'm an elevator mechanic for 3 years now after elevators just being my hobby 😂 I like lift surfing videos. Well filmed.
that elevator shaft ceiling from the lowest floor absolutely creeps me out, just look how damn high it is, its like having phobia of looking at the sky but this high elevator shaft ceiling instead
It must feel like a free fall when that lift is going down, that’s for sure. And going up, it probably feels like riding a rocket into space, but a bit slower.
Happy to do it, would feel guilty not filming them as you just dont get this good build quality and great feeling nowdays, everything new has gone boring
This makes me feel sick haha I find elevators really scary to think about... my great granddad died in an elevator shaft because he stepped out and when the lift wasn’t there and fell to his death. but hey really cool video!
@@UrbexLifts the story is that the lift just wasn’t there when he expected it to be, so he stepped out and fell down from a significant height... not really the lift’s fault but seems like a lonely place to die at the bottom of a lift shaft
Lift landing doors should always be locked when the lift car is not present. The lift should not be able to move any open doors. Landing doors are not automatic, the lift cab door operator unlocks and operates them. Why was the door open?
Props for testing inspection controls when getting on. Why do you go down first? Isn't it better to go up first, as it doesn't bring you out of reach of the rollers in case something didn't function as expected. Also they are Otis mod lifts with REM, doesn't putting it on inspection alert security? Also once I put an Otis mod lift with REM into inspection, tested inspection and got off (putting it back to normal), then the indicator went to [ - - ], I waited around and it didn't go to the bottom of the shaft to go find position again, it just disabled its self, and alerted Security. How come that didn't happen to you?
He's controlling the lights. I also do it when I surf, if someone leaving notices the lights are on, they might look up and see you, or tell security if the lights weren't on prior
how do you get on and off without it moving if you're not in inspection mode? I guess you use the controls in the motor room to put it in inspection, then jump on, then use the car-top controls to put it back into normal mode?
@@lordred7462 that's only necessary for shitty Gen 2s or shitty Otis mods... Once I surfed an Otis mod in John Lewis... Does this happen to be dangerous at all? I'm planning on signing up my five year old twins for the Metro County Elevator Surfing Club, teach them about responsibilities and so on.
this is illegal. Elevator in this video is running in automatic mode and author rides on cabin. Person could be crashed to the ceiling when cabin goes to top floor (but that depends on elevator shaft construction). This is also very hazardous enviroment (risk od death by being crashed to everything). If you dosn't work for some elevator company or don't have knowledge how elevator works, and what safety precausions are you better not go there. Elevator shaft is out of bounds to general public for reason.
The only factor to be terrified of is how companies cut back on prices. Lifts are completely safe when well designed, well built and regularly maintained
@@UrbexLifts i know. In the building i worked at before we had a small lift with a big window (it was built at the side of the building) so you could see outside, i was fine. It's just the small confined space that a fully enclosed lift is that is giving me the heebee jeebees haha.
@@UrbexLifts I dont know why was this video in my reccomendations but I had to watch haha… anyway in my country 90% lifts are not maintained at all. Lighting in elevator shafts is commonly intended for the first installation and service purposes. Try to think about working in a dark elevator shaft with just one handheld illuminator. Must be quite difficult.
I presume you are from the USA as you call it an "elevator", where i am (in the UK) trespass isn't illegal, its a civil offence (which is nothing tbh). Not sure if its the same in france but I like the way they do it in the UK as I see nothing wrong with trespass. Of course, if they do anything fround upon e.g. force entry or damage things then they can be prosecuted for those things seperately.
Luckily this is is not the case on this channel. I hope there is no one taking unnecessarily high risks by surfing lifts for becoming cool. Lift surfing is for the feeling, filming is for preservation, being cool is for egoists and surfing without knowledge is for suicides
This is incredibly irresponsible. Actual elevator technicians don't ride the tops of elevators on automatic because of the danger that is involved with doing so. You should not share or encourage this behavior.

Interesting how the outer doors have holes to reduce weight. That should be used more often.
Modern doors are not nearly this heavy, usually they are one sheet of metal with a beeam across them. That is why they are so flimsy
Like Gen2 doors
