- *Available in HD - We finally decided to do some exterior improvements to our mountain camp. Up first is creating a mountain stone fire ring beneath the shag bark hickory. But before we get to building, we have to dismantle our previous attempt and level some ground.

Another nice video. I would only recommend keeping in mind an air draft channel to alleviate the smoke in the face syndrome while sitting around a fire ring. A definitive draw and exit can save you from the stinging eyes and harsh fumes without having to constantly move your chairs every time the breeze shifts.
There is no other option for a hard work !!!
Keep doing well.
Good physical body workout! Can't wait to see the fire pit,
Now go find some clay and pack it around the fire pit rocks, good video boys.
+Stephen Bradley Funny you should say that. Part of me was hoping I'd hit a vein while I was digging. I have lots of plans when I do find some clay.
Thats some good old manual labour :)
Thanks for sharing - Martin
Excellent job! can't wait to see part 2. I would add sand around your fire pit it will help keeping it clean and non flammable.
Nothing like a hard days labour in the sun, looking good boys ~Peace~
+Zed Outdoors Thanks Z
Cool video! Maybe slap together some solid bench seats around the fire pit if you have company quite often?
+blaynoo Yep we plan to make some benches and a table.
great video krik, depending on the sheer size of your ring you can get you a more defined fire ring by get a heavy truck rim or even tractor tire and cut the center out and have a good size ring, add a couple vertical poles for a spit, or turn it into a Sante fe' grill. so much different things you can do.
+Galen Long Great ideas Galen. Thanks bud. We are planning to use the rocks we have (there's a lot in the mountains!). I'm not familiar with a Santa Fe grill.
A santa fe' grill is just one that can be raised and lowered by a spit.
Hard work but remember to keep it wild . Brian 76
Too cool Crick. The benches and Table are gonna tie it all in, especially if you can make them, for the most part, yourselves. Maybe a consideration would be when it rains or snows which way the runoff flows? Looks like a great spot to get right. :)
Love the footage. Thank you.
Great video as always guys!
A couple of massive log benches should do the trick for the fire pit
really be your favorite ruclips.net/video/p8e-H77NNoI/видео.html
I really enjoy your videos. You may want to build a fire deflector if you plan to have fires in the winter depending on what part of the country you are in. Good luck with the project and have fun out there.
hard and good work, makes you want to a small beer :D
I liked the video and would enjoy more, keep up the good work man.
great simple day out. How about a multi system cooking setting. Eg:- a spit and possibly a drum baking oven. Plenty of room by the looks of it.
Would love to see an outdoor type of kitchen build. Start with a bushcraft table perhaps? Atb
+O_Dingo77 Great ideas. Yes we plan to make a few benches and a table. Stay tuned!
Looks like Stoney drew the long straw; he records while you sweat.;-)
+Craig Mooring Ha! He worked just as much, I didn't film him though.
@Black Owl Outdoors That's what I figured, actually, because all the Work shots were pretty short and clearly representational.
Hey Krik, yes, good video. I also miss the therapeutic benefits of manual labor. maybe while you are at this stage you can make some holes for a couple of poles so you can make a spit across the fire pit.
+Frank Daly Hmm good idea. Are you planning to have a spit on yours? I never really used one.
+Black Owl Outdoors I want something to hang a pot and coffee pot from.
eyyo sick leather wheels mane, subscribed
+Daniel C Thanks man and welcome to the channel!
Might be a good idea to think about rain runoff from the hill. Erosion is going to be an issue
+RyanJKUS2012 Yea we considered that. The property has pretty good drainage as is. I don't think it will be an issue where we are working. But we are thinking about building a small retaining wall on the down side for good measure.
What about the tree roots? I've heard other say that the roots could shoulder along their length, eventually reaching the tree and destroying it. Possibly catching it on fire.
Make it brick around it
stony gets out of the hard work by holding the camera? seems like a fair division of labour haha. looks like a great spot. i always plan on relaxing completely while at the family cottage but seem to find something to make improvements on every visit which keeps me busy.
Ha! He helped the entire time. I just didn't film him working. Working hard is relaxing, when you're doing the work you want!
Good old fashioned work. Good video y'all. Besides moving the fire ring what are y'all wanting to accomplish?
Probably level out a few other small areas around the fire pit. Maybe do some work in the back field so tents can sit flat. Not exactly sure yet.
Really liked your video and I'm looking forward for the second part. Maybe you can spray paint some big rocks different colours, which will make the fire pit will look awesome at night.By the way,is that a new sheath for your fieldmaster or you added a flap?Seems really nice ;)
Good eye! Not a new sheath for the Fieldmaster, new sheath for the Tech Tool. The sheath will be in a few upcoming videos.
You need a wheel barrow
not a bad day. so u camp their or just hang out by the fire? houses in background looked right on ya. nice area though
Both. There's only one neighbor. One house is ours, the other is just a hunting camp.
Hey man. What kind of boots are those. Went back and tried to find a review, but couldn't. Nice video. Keep it up!

Are you going to add pavers around it for a level permanent spot for chairs and such?
Probably not. We're thinking of letting it go natural. But no decisions will be made until it all settles.
+Black Owl Outdoors Either way it will be great!
wish i could get my kids to do that they don't know that word "manual" or "labor" hahah
+Boz Boz Ha! How old are they?
My princesses are 9 and 13 love them to death. 9 yr old loves the outdoors 13 yr old loves the mall was always this way.
If someone would pay me the same (or even a little less) to just push barrows all day vs my current job, I'd take it and never look back!
When in high school pupils were asked what they wanted to be.
I said a brickies laborer. I was looked at strange.
I wanted to work outdoors, not in an office.
I ended up leaving school and became a bricklayer (started before 17 yo) and loved to chip and help out laboring.
Setting up, loading up, scaffolding the hole lot.
Worked with hundred of different bricklayers on BIG (800 000 bricks) to small jobs.
Even though I was still young (early 20's)I liked to teach the wippersnappers all the little tricks :)
But alas, a back injury from when I was 11 put an end to it :(
Those were the days, midday on a concrete slab with no breeze 40 degrees C (over 100F).
Laying bricks in winter bare handed with frost on them.
Be careful what you wish for ;)
+CedricAda Gear and Outdoors I hear ya. But I'll leave that work to the youngins these days! I've done my share of long days with a tool in my hand. But you're Aussie, tougher than the rest.
+Stewart Buckley Injuries are the worst. Most people I've worked with doing hard physical labor had chronic injuries. Either because of poor form, or from an accident. Either way, I'm happy I can still do this work without pain.
+Black Owl Outdoors :D
Black Owl Outdoors I have bad hips not only from stupid things done when young (not broken) but exacerbated from getting of scaffold onto concrete. A quick hop off only 4/5 feet or so seem OK. Over time NOT !
BTW Im Aussie as well :/
As for the 11 YO injury, I was pushed of spiral slippery slide (around 10ft) and landed on my back. The rest of my injuries are MY fault.
So does your family own all those small buildings and the house, or are there neighbors?
Yes we own some of the small buildings, and yes there are neighbors. But one neighbor is only a hunting camp.
Cool. Ever do any hunting? I guess you'd have some pretty good sized deer and black bear up that way.
