OMG I feel like we haven't spoken to y'all in foooorever. Thanks for letting us catch you up this week. This past month has been a bit chaotic. Between leaving our jobs, moving, our car breaking down days before our road trip North, and a trip that took us out of the country, it has been... nuts. But don't worry, we filmed it ;) so we'll see you next week with a new travel video.
Missed your videos but happily watched all the shorts. Hubby and I were in QT on holiday when you were on your trip. Loved it but felt it was extremely touristy. Enjoy your trip to north island! 😊
So sad you're leaving the south island its been great having you both show it to the world. 😢😢enjoy the north island and hopefully you'll make it back here soon stay safe guy's ❤
It is actually really sad to leave the South Island for us as well, I definitely shed a tear (or 100). But we honestly are so excited to see the North Island, too.
Been fun following the QT/SI videos. It’s too bad about the housing situation, I think council could help more. They just sold some land for $20m, and a big new development in Frankton being built is advertised as “holiday rentals”… It looks like they are not incentivizing living for permanent residents. With the cost to build, land and mortgage rates, I don’t blame home owners for airbnbing though.
I was feeling genuinely worried as you guys hadn’t posted for a while!! Glad all is well and you’re on another adventure, super excited to find out where that is…my guess is Chile?!
Awww - yeah things got a little hectic there - to be honest, we're still just coming out of it. But we have loads of videos, just have to put them together :)
Queenstown is a remarkable place with an international community that feels different and excluded from the rest of New Zealand. My wife and I were there for a few months (she is on holiday there right now), before we decided it was too expensive, and the landlord asked us to leave because of something I did (which was wrong and warranted being asked to leave). We had a car and drove around most weekends, Skippers canyon, Wanaka, Arrowtown including mountains above Arrowtown, Shotover river, and countless other places. As for housing, either you can buy your own property (very expensive) or I think you need to develop some deep connections in Queenstown and prove yourself as a long-term resident. Covid had a tough impact on Queenstown, but it has pulled through and keeps moving forward and has a lot of money coming into it from high places.
I left NZ to live in Japan for a bit just before you guys moved to NZ, and man it’s always to see scenery and familiar sights through your videos! That frost, ah I miss the crisp mornings! I could almost feel it 🥹. My guess on where you’re going is either Japan or South Africa 😀
Did you work on the front desk at the QEC? Where vanlifers go for. $2 shower?? 😅 Be careful in the North island, there is a lot more gang activity there. Definitely a different vibe to the south island. Especially bad around Hawkes bay, bay of plenty. Take care on your travels
is it possible ? "easy" to find a job as a Handyman? I am looking to move to New Zealand, I fix Campervan for leaving , but is going probably to be a seasonal job. Cheers.
Leaving Queenstown in 2 weeks due to housing costs and shortage. Moving to one of the best neighbourhoods in Auckland for $200 less a week. I've never lived anyplace in the world (and I'm a NYer who's lived on 4 continents) which took a greater percentage of my income for simple survival. Rent alone was well over 50% of my income. It's a small town with sterile, unimaginative, touristy bars and restaurants and small scale slopes that are mostly covered in snow made by snow machines. It's quaint and nice and the hiking is great but not even close to worth the money you spend here when there's better, less expensive, world class options in the region.
I wont lie, I've watched all but a handful of your videos and had to stop here specifically cos all I read was "why we are leaving" and I thought it meant you were leaving NZ! lol. Its 4am and I actually said out loud "Nooooooo wtf????"
Queenstown housing is a joke. The landlords spat their dummies out over the new renting regulations and decided the appropriate response was to turn everything into an airbnb. The complete lack of empathy and foresight has crippled the towns workforce. I have to move house at least once a year and houses are getting harder to find every time. Slowly getting squeezed out after 5 years here, gotta move again by end of september.
I just left Queenstown.. applied for 8 different rentals each time 30 applicants showed up.. ridiculous. I have a top 1% salary and perfect rental history. This place is a joke Moved to Christchurch and literally secured a rental on my first day there after my first viewing
Such a joke that nobody wants to come to Qtwn, the only market growth region in NZ from the Aussies since COVID, increased demand for hotel accommodation, Airbnb's and LTR. If everyone thinks it is such a joke then you wouldn't need such flights, Airbnb's, hotels, restaurants, activities and rentals. You could then have the whole place to yourself and total choice of a house to live. Just no other idiots around that want to live here according to you. If you are top 1% of salary earners why not buy or pay accordingly for more choice/options???? Other parts of the country and world have accommodation issues too and it's supply and demand.
@@realitycheck4156 Im a professional investor, I dont buy depreciating houses that are valued way above rebuild cost. Yes Queenstown is an overrated joke, there is barely anything there that you cant get in a secluded town on the South Island. Sure there are some activities, but if you dont like skiing, everything else will get boring quickly
@@AusValue Each to their own. You can have your own opinion but obviously being one of the fastest growing regions of the country alot of people and tourists will disagree with you. Get rid of the bogans and solve the traffic issues will do me. Popular areas all around the world have their knockers but you do seem bitter. Better you stay away and spread your investments around the boring towns being boarded up and can't survive.
Queenstown is a total joke. Sterile, boring, tourist vibes. Every restaurant, bar and cafe is so devoid of any type of character, creativity and personality. They all look like something you'd see in an airport terminal. And if you don't like skiing in subpar conditions it is horribly dull. Probably the most flavourless, blandest, culture less place I've ever lived. Funny that it was also the most expensive lol
You lasted 6 months in QT! I stopped for petrol and kept driving. It’s got amazing views I’ll admit , but like all natural places it’s ruined by too many people. Sorry but that’s my opinion and I’m a kiwi and it’s overrated. Japan is such as good in the scenery department. The lack of affordable housing is directly the fault of the local businesses that didn’t have the foresight to develop something much earlier. And they moaned because NZers didn’t support the place during and after the pandemic, no kidding, that’s because it’s too expensive for most average NZers. I’m happy you liked it, but I know plenty of people who don’t 😂 far far better places than QT.
Thank God we had enough petrol here for you so we weren't stuck with you any longer than we needed to be. Why don't you tell us where you live so we can pick the sh.t out of your town? Do people really need to show such rudeness to knock a place on social media. The cr.p we got during COVID was just nasty nasty BS. I think plenty of people enjoy it here or it wouldn't be one of the fastest growing districts in the country.

You should send an email to all of the vineyards and hotels in town because they are the ones who hire a handyman! Nick found his job pretty easily :)
@nickandraychel Cool. Thanks.
