I'm 36 years old, grew up in Mississippi... listening to him talk, reminds me of my grandfather.. as a lil boy i used to sit behind the house in that tool shed and listen to my grandfather tell stories just like this... he'd be drinking segram gin talking shit all day.. and I was right there for it, laughing and soaking up game... those were the days

This is powerful, as a thirty six year old black man. His words touched me even now. As man who was fortunate enough to have both parents growing up. His words remind me of father and uncle’s conversation we used to have

I grew up in Fort Worth on the Southside born in 1951. I went to James E. Guinn School 1-9. Paul L. Dunbar 10-12. There was segregation, but
we Blacks had our own movie theaters The Grand, drug stores Flints, doctors Dr. Brooks, Barbershops Williams Barbers, swimming pools at
Hillside park, cafes and bars The Chili Bowl, Drakes, Mrs. Browns, 21 Club, etc. Most of Black family lived in a home with both parents. The
men work for the Texas & Pacific railroad, meat processing plant, cooks, porters, etc. Downtown stores were open to Blacks like Leonard's, but
there was a White & Colored food sections, water fountains. Evans & Rosedale the red zone i.e., The Hickory Pit, drugs, prostitutes, gambling,
conmen, hustlers & thieves. There was a teenage street gang name the Skid Row Bandits. I left in 1969 after high school served in the military.
Went to Vietnam, remained in California after Honorable Discharged. Teenage music, pretty girls, sports, summers nights ...magical.
The old folks keep the red zone away from kids, we had no idea that the shoeshine repair shop was a gambling/drug dealing place. Lol
    * Blacks had their own gas stations, cab stands, car repair garages, Dry cleaners, women dress makers, fish markets, integration destroyed all this.

Aye man it’s okay if you don’t like white people, keep it real don’t beat around the bush n try to make me seem some type of way bc you feel some type of way about white people. You’re mad I have no problem with black people as a white boy, what’s the big deal? Do you think I’m supposed to hate black people or something? Would that be keeping it real? We're [the 'black' community] Job. We at one time had much substance, united families, health, etc. Now, all those things have been taken from us & we suffer. But through examining our condition like Job did talking with his friends he [us] will realize our shortcomings [current conditions in our communities] & rise above this low estate we're in to gain all that we lost & more, thru our faith in our higher power [Yah], ourselves & following the blueprint that was left to us in the Biblical & ancient writings plus the history we can draw from.

I am my own hero. I love the people who have loved me, but the only man I truly know is me. Say what you will about me, when it’s all said and done I will be exactly the man I want to be. What is the measure of a man that someone else can tell me, I don’t know, but it don’t make it me. I live for something, and for something I will die. So let my death come, because I will not regret the life I have lived, there is nothing I can take with in death but what I have learned in life, and in life I learned what Love is. I learned first to Love myself, and after I learned to Love myself my eyes were completely opened, and I know what it is to live.

Working is TOO HARD and stealing and killing is EASY to them.. Plus going 2work, they feel they missing something out here... I agree with the teaching part.. it's hard when u don't have examples to follow.... if u have no reliable man or mentor, it's hard to learn how to b a man, if u have no examples of any around u... I did not say impossible, it's jus harder to become something u don't c... I'd love to converse with this man.. my pawpaw 82 and granny 81.. they from Stop Six... I pick their brain all the time..

Rico, I heard you speak about Job and the questions you had after reading that story. That means your mind is thirsty for knowledge. I had the same questions and I found these two historians on RUclips and I brought many of their books. They opened my knowledge that I wouldn't had if I didn't find them. I recommend researching these two people (John Henrik Clarke, Yosef Ben-Jochannan),,,, At first it going to be hard comprehending what they say because what you been taught. Just research what they say and you will see if it facts.

Lake Como was an all black community in Fort Worth back then. Its a one square mile community black community surrounded by rich white communities, and Como started as a domestic community. It’s a small documentary about it. I grew up there from the early 70s and left 2006, and I watched a close knit community go downhill when crack hit.

The interviewer talking way too much. Pops is the focus.
