    they also used half sword with a extra large nodachi
    sometimes the nodachi weren’t sharp at the base of the blade or they wrapped it in cord which is why they think we got the nagamaki from the nodachi

    Outlaw I have a question for you... what is the best steel back in the day.... Damascus or the Japanese and the way they keep folding the steel .....?

    • @outlawsamurai47
      @outlawsamurai47  Месяц назад

      If you're looking to know the difference first Damascus steel is far superior because of the metallurgical processes let it went through during its creation while traditional Japanese steel is a bloomery steel that's basically where they take the iron ore partially melted and pour carbon AKA charcoal over top of it and heat it up for days on end this process results in a steel manufacturing that takes 1100 lb of iron ore and carbon yet yields about a thousand pounds of steel it's not very efficient the reason they were folding the steel is because to fold the steel allows the impurities such as sulfur slag manganese a lot of impurities in the bloomery steel to be taken out on the other hand Damascus steel is a crucible steel meaning that it is completely liquefied during its creation allowing all the impurities to either burn up completely or amalgamate in one solid Chunk in the very center of the steel which is then punched directly out of it when the forging begins all in all if I had to choose between traditional true Damascus steel and not the pattern welded fake stuff we have today over Japanese tamahagane I would choose Damascus steel not to say that traditional Japanese tamahagane doesn't have its place in the sword world it does have a beautiful pattern when it is forged in the traditional manner it's just that as a bloomery steel it is inferior to a crucible steel such as Damascus in terms of its structural integrity
