I don't know if I can be arsed with Alien/Terminator/Predator movies anymore. I rather see something new, and enjoy the older franchises for what they were.
Great video and lovely to see you guys back :) I couldn't agree more with Duncan on the point of if you are going to keep making new films out of these old franchises then please stop suggesting to the people that loved the old films that they are dumb for liking them, and end up making something nobody wants or watches. Just create something completely new.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this film because it does have the "right" look etc of an Alien film, but there are some things that worry me, like having it set between Alien and Aliens as no one in Aliens know anything about what happened here. I would of liked to have seen maybe something in the far future where the company have tamed the beast so to say. Something similar to blomkamps vision maybe.
They're back folks! It'll be a bit awkward if Duncan is revealed to be in the film, playing the head company man or whatever. His line will be "we need to build more xenomorph holes".
Solo was bogged down with pointless prequel stuff and being set up for a new trilogy [who's sequels were cancelled]. Obi Wan was also supposed to be a film trilogy but the first film got reworked into the TV show instead,
Great to see you two back doing what you do. I'm on the same page as you guys. I'm hoping it's gonna be like Godzilla Minus One. A character driven film, with a compelling protagonist's arc, and the monster being a tool to tell their story. But I doubt it will be anything more than a slasher movie in space, with cock-shaped monsters killing off a bunch of tweens in vaguely familiar surroundings.
I’m expecting them to make the xenomorphs a sympathetic species. Perhaps we can make a cute xenomorph sidekick with big, puppy eyes? We could call it Xeno. The kids would love it.
Given I seem to be a rare person who liked the Alien Prequel's attempts at a greater scope and Fassbender's David, I was disappointed that storyline never got finished although given Covenant underperformed I can see why post Fox/Disney merger it fizzled out [given scripts were written hopefully like the Alien 3 drafts they'll be released in someway eventually]. While I'll be surprised if Romulus has many fresh elements [it's setting is very traditional for the series] , I'm hoping it will be an entertaining film like 'Prey'.
Hi guys, great talk! I always like to hear your opinion. I'm looking forward to the film but out of the films I'm looking forward to this year Beetlejuce Beetlejuce is the one with the best chance to be good, I've heard good things and it's useing practical effects and stop motion instead of CGI. About Alien Romulus and the points you brought up, I think you will probably be disappointed, they do something in this film that connects to the first film (Character) that's very Rogue One, so it's funny you guys were talking about that film. Also Richard you do know one cast member the lead Cailee Spaeny she the young photographer in Civil War. Keep up the good work and I look forward to future videos. 👍
I heard some rumours that the original Alien will reappear somehow and perhaps Ash also. Character, plot and performance have all been weak in recent Alien films, so let's hope this one's better.
I still see some fans bemoaning online that Neil Blomkamp's 'Return of Ripley' film never happened [as Fox ultimately wasn't interested in making it] although given the quality of Blomkamp's recent work maybe it's best kept a 'what might have been' [like his proposed Robocop film] as the reality might have been disappointing.
Personally, I just feel the Xenomorph just isn't scary anymore. Much like the Predator, there is only so much milage you can get out of a monster, who has no real personality and exists to eat humans. Its just recycled monster movie material.
I'm not super excited for this new Alien movie but if it gets good reviews and if there's good buzz around it then I may check it out on a discount day at my local cinema. I don't hate or dislike Prometheus and Covenant but it doesn't seem like there's much story left to tell in the Alien franchise and this new movie just feels like a rehash of the original. I'm kind of at the same point as you guys are when it comes to these franchises but I'll be honest, I'm excited for Deadpool 3, Joker 2 and Beatlejuice 2. I'd love to hear your guys thoughts on those upcoming movies.
What did Prey bring to the table? I feel like an outlier with my ambivalence toward that movie. At this point what can another Alien add that is new and fresh?
In my opinion, it told a different human story, juxtaposed with a sci-fi horror element that explored an aspect of the human condition. Something sorely lacking since the original.
@@ValVerdeBroadcasting I wasn’t interested in the human story. Frankly, I found it a little unbelievable that a woman was hunting in a society in which that was the role of men. Would her tribe even tolerate such a thing? How successful would a skinny woman actually be? I know, I know, I shouldn’t look for realism in a Predator story, but the film tried very hard to present the concept as believable whereas Predator, Predator 2, and Predators revealed in the absurd and bombastic. The difference being those films were more entertaining to me because i was treated to new and different aspects of the Predator and his culture. Switching out the protagonist and setting alone wasn’t enough to get me invested in the movie. That’s my fear with the new Alien movie, the action will be moved to a station instead of a ship, colony, or prison planet and we’ll be given a new group of people to watch die one by one. So what? In what way is the Alien lore going to be moved forward? After so many Predator and Alien movies I want a little more imagination, something high concept.
I didn't like Prey at all, unfortunately (I've disagreed with the guys' opinion over a few films but always value their take on things). A lot of franchises I used to love are now pretty much dead to me, but that only means I give other franchises and smaller films more of a chance. I really liked Furiosa and thought Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was decent and Dune part two was incredible.
@@jelliscorpio And I think it’s fine to disagree. I loved Roger Ebert but vehemently disagreed with his takes on certain movies. It’s depressing to live in a time where people are abusing others online just because of a difference of opinion. It’s a toxic world we live in.
I just saw the new trailer it looks fantastic, but still hiding the plot, but all the images in the trailer lineup with the test screening my friend went to so I think I know what to expect. It's not a Prey it's a more cinematic "better" Interquel Terminator Genisys. I hope we all enjoy it though. 🤞

True. It's my issue with Star Wars [even Rouge One] where it always feels like it has to tie to earlier films rather than making it completely stand alone and doing something new.
19:11 That "Screen Culture" RUclips channel is absolute parasitic garbage. I hope this one answers the question we all have: If WY have been looking for the Alien all this time, and they always build a Xenomorph hole, why don't they build them to catch the Xenomorph? 🤔
Very much agree with you two on this. I would like it to be good, I think it will be at very least better than Scott’s prequels (or at least not as fart huffing), Prey was a pleasant surprise. I just don’t see the point, but the director I believe has said very little of the film is in the trailer, so hopefully there’s more to it. Right now though… meh🤷🏻♂️
About the only thing radical left to do with alien is make Weyand-Yutani the good guys; You mean they were desperately seeking this alien the whole time because they needed a weapon to fight the borg or something? lol
My idea for a true sequel to aliens was that a Soviet expedition ship bypasses security radars on lv426 After hearing rumours of “aliens” they go down and extract an egg or two and then set their course for earth, all hell breaks lose and the crew barricades themselves in the bowels of the ship and get an sos message out, hicks now in command of a “quarantine” squad intercept the sos and dock with the Soviet ship, they need to course correct the Soviet ship away from earth because the self detonation on the Soviet ship has been destroyed by the aliens acid. You get the horror elements of the original alien and the colonial marine’s elements of aliens. I wasn’t sure how you would get Ripley back as a character tho.
I’m not sure I particularly want an enjoyable-but-throwaway Alien horror film if it doesn’t have any thematic weight or consequence and I definitely don’t need yet another ponderous prequel that just demystifies even more of what we all love about Alien - so I guess I’ve checked out at this point 😂 Hopefully I’m wrong and will be surprised by Romulus… but if it sucks I’ll be looking forward to another classic VVB commentary, complete with Australian H.R. Giger impressions 🤣🤣
Furiosa did have 'origin' elements but worked far better than 'Solo' for me ['Solo' being dragged down by that, the clear re-shoots [L-3 feeling left over from the more 'Guardians of the Galaxy' original tone] and being 'part 1' of a planned trilogy who's sequels got cancelled]. Due to legal issues and Covid it's turned up 9 years after Fury Road which was always going to be a hard sell. Even if it hasn't done well at the box office, I'm glad George Miller did get a chance to do a different style of story in the 'Mad Max World' [set over many years] rather than the traditional 'Max wanders into someone else's tale'.
I liked 'Furiosa' overall (glad they didn't just try to repeat the last one) but the pacing and editing was all over the shop. It skipped over major scenes and plot points (especially later on in the film). The action was still pretty cool, but the whole thing just lacked that "wow factor" that 'Fury Road' had, perhaps down to way more CG this time.
@@Thewingkongexchange It certainly was episodic. It did make me think if the script was maybe considered for a streaming mini series at one point then pared down for a movie?
Just a little extra opinion - obviously there are countless other reasons but for me, Alien and Aliens were so good because they were just so weird and ALIEN, and they made powerful people totally powerless. It's not just a big black lion hunting and eating people and occasionally getting eviscerated by big shooters...
Well my feelings towards it, not much, but I will say Alien 3 is flawed depending on both versions, Prometheus even is one example no not a great but the visuals I mean it is Ridley Scott, Napoleon may be flawed but different topic. Alien Covenant watchable, my dad apparently saw it with a girlfriend he had at the time and mother###### in the shower scene and described it to me how the characters were vulnerable in that scene, I know Scott shelved the third film I can see why. Alien Resurrection is the weakest probably but interesting ideas but underwhelming. Alien Vs Predator first film that introduced me to the mythological creatures that is all…… Alien groundbreaking but maybe dated in some bits and Aliens is a good action film. Scott is a fan of cuts or extended editions for some of his films but different subject. Films that go down the well true for the last 10 years or so it seems to be that way, now Top Gun Maverick is not a bad film but that kind of went down the well too for whatever reason Tom Cruise decided to borrow the Star Wars Death Star storyline I didn’t even notice it that much at first but thinking about it more after seeing it yeah… but still not a bad film. Civil War was well made but depressing and the last film I saw in cinemas was The Fall Guy it was watchable. Furiosa I don’t know about the hype either I liked the previous film so that’s why.
Its been said that this might have almost the same plot of the previous Alien game (Alien: Isolation) given that game has done well and this upcoming film takes place in between Alien and Aliens as did the game. It might just be it.
It would make sense to take inspiration from Isolation for sure [I didn't like the 'novelisation' unfortunatly so glad it's not following the storyline].
At this point just make both Alien and Predator franchises anthologies and go nuts. Drop a Predator into feudal Japan or the WW1 trenches. Drop a xenomorph into a submarine or an antarctic base.
Apparently “big chap” which is the xeno from from the original is in this. Keep in mind, This is from the director of the recent Texas chainsaw massacre. Furiosa was entertaining btw.
@@adamcammack3534 Agreed- you have to be careful given it's usually not clear how involved each producer is [Walter Hill has been credited as a producer on every Alien film despite having nothing to do with it since Alien 3] and 'story' is very different from a screenplay credit.
Over thinking it. My role as an audience is to be on a journey and be in the shoes of the characters facing these Events. The issue of the dirty gritty Retro-Futuristic theme of Alien being with the same Universe of the Clean Modern version in Prometheus or Alien Covenant also doesn’t affect me because it’s realistic. It’s all about the Social Class of the Crew manning these machines. I lived in Singapore where they have One of the Best and Modern Futuristic Military Aircrafts they could afford for the Public to see. But believe it or not, behind the scenes, the Bowsers refueling those SAME State Of The Art aircrafts are from the 80’s with Old analogue switches working ONLY half the time… Many of the Dashboards of those Bowsers didn’t even have a working back light to monitor the Speedometer for the driver when Driving in the dark… 😅 So Old World Meets New World is more common than we like to admit…
Fantastic. Great hearing from you guys again. By the way Richard. Will always be gratefull to you for getting me interested on Judge Dredd. Thank you Richard and hope you are both well

Have to disagree on Civil War. Perhaps it was improperly advertised because when I see a poster of a militarised Statue of Liberty, my first impression isn't that of a road trip movie. 😂
As much as you guys obviously are critical of Ridley scott you should watch Raised by wolves which this movie will share thematically with and shows Ridley is still a good creative type.
We’ve criticised his more recent ‘fare’ because we don’t believe it to be up to his past standards. That doesn’t mean we’re blindly critical of his work. We’ve praised Alien, Blade Runner and The Martian for example - DC
@@ValVerdeBroadcasting To each their own but to me he's gotten better as of late with all the money in the world, the last duel and napoleon being strong works of his.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on that point. The Last Duel was pantomime levels of unserious to me. It was like Americans trying to do Dick Whittington at a village hall in Suffolk. Sorry 🤷♂️
Thanks to Prometheus all the mysteriously around the Jockey is gone and I actually think all that stuff was really important to making Alien work. It needs that extra bit of mysterious space horror sitting in the back of your mind, otherwise the alien is just a pest really.
Good to see yis lads! Of course , we will watch it , and no doubt Alvarez has style, but yeah looks like more of the same really. Looking back may be not a bad thing , but we have seen it all so many times! Hope your well chaps.
My biggest issue with Salvation was that it felt like they took a 'future war' script and shoved Terminator into it [like having Skynet programming Marcus to 'kill John Connor' and Arnie being thrown in]. It's clear that 'T3' was mainly there to get to Salvation yet for various reasons ended up coming out 6 years later and it's own sequels were cancelled [an element was Linda Hamilton somehow being thrown into the future].
Sorry guys but your arguments much as I love you are utterly bollox. Hating on something before it has even been released seems to be the new trend these days. My view is just go watch the dam movie and enjoy it for what it is. Too many people try to connect everything. My recommendation is why don’t val verde make a movie!
Keep it civil or take your commentary elsewhere please. It’s fine to disagree with us, but if you’re not going to ‘show your working’ don’t expect others to respect your opinion - DC
Ok I see you’ve edited your comment to provide a degree of reasoning. In response: we’re not “hating on something before it’s been released” we are commenting on material that HAS been released and talking about it in the context of a 45 year old film franchise, comprising of 8 feature films. Why would you take issue with people “trying to connect everything” when that’s exactly what the filmmakers themselves are asking us to do? Secondly: we have made movies. Lots of them. And we’ve even made an ‘in-house’ film called “Type Till You Bleed”. Do your research.
Fans will do the same with this as they have with every instalment since the 2nd movie - get giddy over the trailer, then bash it once it's out, whining with the same tired cry of 'It's not the same as the original waaa waaa waaaa!'
Re: the point about having to fit within the canon, and thus the film having to be self-contained. I am sure they can just get around this with some corporate cover up from part of WY Corp. The first four films establish that you can use 'corporations are evil!' to get out of any logical plot-hole.
I’m excited!!! It looks bloody good. Mind you I was excited about The Predator, Terminator Dark Fate, Halloween Ends etc. my track record of predicting what’s going to be good is absolutely shite 👍
Struggling with you guys when you can’t even remember what you saw in the movies last week. Maybe you’re hungover. The only good film is… ‘The front fell off’ 😂 Subbed
How interesting can you make a story about a space monster killing people? Loved Alien and Aliens, but where exactly can you take it? It has nowhere to go.
Watched a load of conversation about Romulus.. A lot of doubt vented by people of a similar age. Myself included. Unfortunately, that’s where we are… Alvarez has a huge uphill task. Probably pissing in the wind. But if anyone can make this good, and interesting, it’s him. We love Terminator 1 & 2, we hate the others We love the original 3 Star Wars, new ones suck… Alien & Aliens are awesome!!… Others suck…. That’s just in my opinion, where we are… But I’m still looking forward to Romulus.

Alien Resurrection is the weakest probably but interesting ideas but underwhelming. Alien Vs Predator first film that introduced me to the mythological creatures that is all……
Alien groundbreaking but maybe dated in some bits and Aliens is a good action film.
Fede did not director Texas Chainsaw he only provide the story and was a producer.
Furiosa was excellently entertaining.
I enjoyed Furiosa a lot too.
Yes lads! ❤
Is Richard drinking nuclear piss? One hopes not. But besides this, a welcome return to you, chaps.
Fantastic. Great hearing from you guys again. By the way Richard. Will always be gratefull to you for getting me interested on Judge Dredd. Thank you Richard and hope you are both well
Alien without Ripley is like macaroni with no cheese.
Alien isolation was great. I know technically a Ripley but not an Ellen.
Crew finds alien world
Ohh.....an Egg!
SURPRISE!
[dry cough]
Well hello there....................sorry about the mess.
AAAAAGGGGGHGHHHHHH!!!!!!!
so......much.........blood.
Lady survives.
Escapes in Alien time machine.
Ohhh....I was pregnant all along.
IT'S A GIRL!!
I'll name her after my granny..................Ellen.
CREDITS!!!
Have to disagree on Civil War. Perhaps it was improperly advertised because when I see a poster of a militarised Statue of Liberty, my first impression isn't that of a road trip movie. 😂
Exactly! We will all have to wait and see ...
Sorry 🤷♂️
@@adamcammack3534😂
Thanks to Prometheus all the mysteriously around the Jockey is gone and I actually think all that stuff was really important to making Alien work.
It needs that extra bit of mysterious space horror sitting in the back of your mind, otherwise the alien is just a pest really.
Good to see yis lads! Of course , we will watch it , and no doubt Alvarez has style, but yeah looks like more of the same really. Looking back may be not a bad thing , but we have seen it all so many times! Hope your well chaps.
One more - PLEASE give us some Duncan impressions! Not much humour in the World at the moment and you guys are hilarious 😊
I would love for this film to be great, but I have every right to be pessimistic.
Thank god you guys are back! Not sure about Romulus, been burned too many times before! A good review could change my mind though...???
woop woop :)
Apparently, Ridley Scott's doing Hamlet next.
The cigar, not the play.
Jim Carrey's reviewed it
@Thewingkongexchange Anything is possible since he made Gladiator 2.
Disney will be Praying its a success. Hahahha. Water a way to go.
I did like Prey but I'm not sure about Alien, for all the flack Terminator Salvation got, I liked that they tried something new. I'd rather that.
Might as well call it "Carry on Alien" at this point. Alien series was done after Alien 3 for me. Not even Sir Ripley Scott can save this franchise.
I look forward to being proven a cynic for thinking it's going to be at best meh.
Much more excited about the TV show than the film. Noah Hawley is cool.
I am really interested to see that show as it's been in development for some time.
Sorry guys but your arguments much as I love you are utterly bollox. Hating on something before it has even been released seems to be the new trend these days. My view is just go watch the dam movie and enjoy it for what it is. Too many people try to connect everything. My recommendation is why don’t val verde make a movie!
I’m with you on this one. Disagree with both of them on absolutely everything except that Prey was good.
You really swung them around with your counter-argument of...nothing
@@damienmb88your counter argument of absolutely nothing made no difference whatsoever 😂 clown 🤡
Granted, but that would be eye-rollingly tedious.
@@ValVerdeBroadcastingso it will probably be true.
If you do a 'rouge one' style ending with everyone killed and then say it was covered up would be a hand wave to it not lining up.
The only good film is…
‘The front fell off’ 😂
Subbed
Speaking for myself: I have kids and run a company - the odds of me remembering what I had for breakfast are slim to none 😂 but welcome! DC
How interesting can you make a story about a space monster killing people? Loved Alien and Aliens, but where exactly can you take it? It has nowhere to go.
it's a LADY alien👌🤣
Prepare yourself for apathy. You're welcome.
Watched a load of conversation about Romulus..
A lot of doubt vented by people of a similar age.
Myself included.
Unfortunately, that’s where we are…
Alvarez has a huge uphill task. Probably pissing in the wind.
But if anyone can make this good, and interesting, it’s him.
We love Terminator 1 & 2, we hate the others
We love the original 3 Star Wars, new ones suck…
Alien & Aliens are awesome!!…
Others suck….
That’s just in my opinion, where we are…
But I’m still looking forward to Romulus.
In space, no one can hear you queef
Prey was wank.
How insightful
That thumbnail is funny because when the trailer was released I literally said "here we go again" lol but yeah, it looks fine I guess 🥱
Have you guys seen the trailers for Longlegs or Megalopolis yet?
