those are some truly great character designs for monsters
Kinda reminds me of Ghibli films in a way. Like their movement and blobbed design really remind me of the feast scene. But more grotesque and terrifying.

At the beginning, you have a nightmare of the Geisha slowly and menacingly turning around to face you
And now at the end, you are doing exactly that right after you kill the Geisha, truly symbolizing that you have indeed become a Little Nightmare.

They are on a ship too, so creaking noises probably aren't that uncommon. Imagine how often those chefs just stop their work because they hear a noise aha

Wrong. The nightmare is the cycle. It's a cycle of nightmares and torment that pulls people in and makes them the very thing that pained them. In trying to escape it, they perpetuate it. And it repeats over and over.

Watching this with what I can remember of Japanese yokai makes me compare them to specific ones, especially with the izakaya at the end.
The main character could be a hitotsume-kozou, a kind of one eyed monk-like creature that's mostly benevolent.
The 'janitor' is a tenaga-jin, almost literally long arm man.
The 'cooks' and 'customers' are kowai, gluttonous ghosts.
While the 'geisha' is some species or combination of onna, I'd lean towards kage-onna or hone-onna. Kage is shadow and hone is bone (just the face though), although only the hone-onna is violent. If this is in a jigoku realm then any mirror could be an ungaikyo, true face mirror which would harm/scare yokai away.
I always kinda liked that you get to see these monsters doing their normal routines when they're not actively hunting you down. Mainly the Chefs doing the dishes and making meals from (almost certainly cannibalized) meat.
The lady humming is beautiful, creepy, and scary at the same time...
Is she the only thin "boss" in this game?? If so, why is she still hungry for this small creature??

I like how Little Nightmares has slowly became a game that shows how a mouse views the world and what they need to do to survive. I think I also like it because no dialogue is said between the characters, no skill tree, it’s not Outlast or Alien Isolation or The Evil Within, it is it’s own world with it’s own mythology, lore, characters, backgrounds, and environments. I praise it for everything that it is and how nobody can (or is) trying to replicate it

It's interesting that the protagonist in this game isn't any better than any of the antagonists. The protagonist doesn't bother attempting to help fellow children, doesn't even acknowledge them, and then devours the boy who turned into a nome, even after he gave her bread, and then started trying to help her more by handing her a sausage instead of running away.

It's chilling but also so saddening. Like what have I done to my poor blind baby Roger. Every time I get to that part I never cut his arms off and end the chapter and move to the Kitchen. He can keep his precious arms because he needs them for our huggggsss

Tarsier actually confirmed it was a sequel. I think.
I've seen a few websites saying that a senior writer from the studio confirmed it as a prequel, although I haven't gotten to fact check them yet. Either way, it seems that the easiest way to piece together a timeline is to say it goes from Very Little Nightmares -> Little Nightmares II -> Little Nightmares
I love this game, I can't wait until they release part.2
