    Just a bit of trivia for anyone who cares. Here in Boston there are 3 main tunnels to cross under Boston Harbor to East Boston (which is part of the city, not a separate city and where Logan International Airport is located) which are east/west tunnels, and one long tunnel running north and south (I-93) under downtown. You will notice going through the tunnels the stripes are either maroon or blue. If the stripes are maroon you are under ground, if the stripes are blue, you are underwater. No big deal, just thought you might like to know.

      I never noticed that before, very interesting!
      Though looking a bit closer (via Google Maps of course), it seems that the blue stripe is there at all times, even when it's not currently underwater (such as around Exit 25 on the Pike). That would have been really cool of them to do!

    All Box Alarms in the City of Boston are transmitted over the radio. The beeping sound you hear is the number of the box being transmitted. In this case it is Box 6151. In the video a 2nd Alarm is being transmitted so you hear 2 beeps followed by the box number. The transmission is repeated so you hear it two times.

    I buffed this company back in the late 1980s. Cab was a 1977 Ford C. A crew of four and one. Was friends with a "spark" who worked in the MDC. He hooked me up. They ran out of Oliver Street ( Fort Hill Square). Did twelve runs one summer Saturday night.

    Why is the squad responding on the 3rd alarm instead of the 1st alarm?

    • @covewatcher
      @covewatcher 7 лет назад +2

      Andre, for the most part here in Boston units are assigned on the box, not necessarily by what type of unit it is or what the emergency is. This particular fire was in East Boston which is across Boston Harbor from where Rescue 1 is located. Rescue 1 is housed in the downtown main fire station with Engine 10 and Tower Ladder 3. It may be (and I don't know for sure) that on this particular box the rescue is not assigned until it goes to 3 alarms. There are for all intents and purposes only 2 rescues in Boston. Rescue 1 pretty much covers downtown, East Boston, the North End and the Back Bay areas. I would imagine how they are assigned on each box depends on how far away they will be as once they are assigned, there is only one other rescue in the city. That is my best educated guess.

    • @stevenkelly9731
      @stevenkelly9731 5 лет назад

      Cause it ain't DC that's why...things are done different in different depts.DCFD ...we run on fireground and are aggressive like Boston and other depts. Some don't , some the squads are not on the initial box some are.

    • @emt5330
      @emt5330 4 года назад +1

      It seems that they did go on the box, as the second alarm went out as they were responding. I think the title refers to the fire ultimately escalating to 3 alarms

  • @covewatcher
    @covewatcher 7 лет назад +6

    Ok people... technically you are all correct. The fire academy and every safety protocol known to man says you should put on your mask in heavy smoke conditions or when entering the fire building. But there is the book way, and the real life way. These are metropolitan firefighters. They aren't fighting two or three story homes on a daily basis. They are dealing with high rises, multi story commercials etc. If they put on their mask every time they go in, they will be out of air before they get to the fire. They just operate that way. So does FDNY, Chicago, Albany, Detroit, etc. So take solace in knowing you are technically correct, but until you are working in their boots, STFU. They have more time sitting in the can reading the paper than the vast majority of you have in firefighting. If you don't like it, don't watch. If you just need to be that right all the time, then you need to spend more time in real life and less time with your Xbox.

    • @jck1794
      @jck1794 6 лет назад +3

      I don't care how experienced these guys are, being INSIDE the fire room while it's still puffing out smoke and not being on air is extremely stupid. You can legit die from one single exposure like this, it happened in my town.

    • @hihfty
      @hihfty 6 лет назад +1

      I can tell by this comment you have ZERO knowledge of how to fight a high rise fire or anything about the job in general. There is a reason why boston is the leader in firefighter cancer awareness and training for the whole nation. They know they have a bad tradition and they’re trying to fix it. If there’s smoke your on air. There is no excuse
