Love your review. I have the Go Pro 4 Black and miss the screen behind. Do not want to use the A7iii in the water plus the cost of the housing, so thought of buying second hand a RX100V. But this has brought faith back to the Go Pro. I was hoping to get better quality, but for the use I make of underwater images, I think GoPro will still do the job. Regards from Spain
Not a great review. I have this housing. If you want wide angle add a wet lenses. I have a couple. The camera capability compared to a go pro is massive. The camera shots 4k and raw through a quality lens with a great low f stop. The go pro i use as a bolt on on my rig running full time for insurance shots. Red light adjustments on the sony should be done post processing but the make 5 has a white balance underwater auto setting as well to pick up a rebalance in shot. I have used the housing for two year and its fine if you follow usual maintenance disciplines. Much better than paying 4x as much for a aluminium housing which only works with a limited mark. Ive met people on boats stuck with the housing and camera whereas ive updated from 2 to mk5.
Exactly. This review is nonsense for anyone with any knowledge of u/w photography. The main issue with the RX100 is the limited (and onerous process to set the) white balance adjustment for video. Stills you can shoot RAW, but video you need to white balance at different depths. A red filter is needed.
As far as I know, there is not one specifically for this housing and/or made by Sony. Any of the 67mm thread-on wet lenses (seafrogs, meikon, kraken, sealife, nauticam, ikelite, fantasea, etc) should work. While the more expensive ones are generally better corrected and/or scratch resistant, it likely makes a bigger difference how well the dome center aligns with the lens entrance pupil than anything. I'm not sure where the apparent entrance pupil aligns for the RX100, and it likely shifts somewhat during zoom and focus anyway. If you can stop the lens down to f/5.6 or f/8 for your shooting (anymore causes diffraction softening), just about any of the domes should be fine, with maybe slight differences in corner sharpness.
But can water actually get in? I mean, this can go down to 40 meters. At that depth the water pressure is 5 times what it is on the surface. Seems to me like whatever should hold that back is probably still in place.
I am a leisure diver and usually dive with a Canon g7x with a canon housing which has never flooded only salt accumulation which was cleared with a nice wash and silicon greasing. This housing doesnt seem that good as I am diving close to 25-30m. A failure like that in that depth will just mean flooding and a spoilt camera..
I have used this diving down to 30m/100ft for years. Never had a problem. This guy doesn't seem to have a clue about underwater housings, or underwater photography.
Nauticam housings are very good for Sony RX100 cameras. You also need a wide angle wet lens e.g. Inon UWL-H100 + red filter. This combination beats GoPro! ruclips.net/video/XR2B0A_hxDY/видео.html
yes. its agreat setup. Needs a wet lenses and strobe if you can afford it. I just shot a load of video in the Galapogos using natural light. Brilliant!

Thank you! I was planning to get the housing for RX100 V, but now considering using my go pro clone instead.

INON make several wide angle lenses which fit.

no. Thats the point of building the thing to a 40m rating.
