Paper wood bedding is not good for them

My mom just agreed to get me pet rats! I'm so excited. I still have some work to do to clean space for them, and get all the supplies I need. but it shouldn't take too long. I've been using your videos to help with my research on how to properly care for pet rats, so thanks for all the great advice! I can't wait to look after my own little pet rats, they're so cute!!

@@aryastark3148 you can get it from a breeder, and rescuing isn’t ideal eather. I rescued my previous rats and one was adorable and cute but the other wasn’t tamable, bit me a lot, was agressive and attacked my other one to the point where they killed one another. Not a great thing to have rescue rats.
@@aryastark3148 adopting is great for older more experienced rat owners, but they can be much more difficult then a rat gotten from a responsible breeder
definitely a good idea to adopt though, if you feel ready for a potential challenge

These are THE BEST rat cages. Only problem with the old ferret nation cages, I found, is very small females can slide between the bars. This one looks great!

Lovely cage and set up. I've noticed how much our 4 female rats are more active than your boys... when they get into a cleaned cage with a new set up they go totally zoomies and run around trying out everything. They also immediately get to work creating elaborate nests out of the hay, paper and material we put in. Boys are so chill in comparison :)

Most rat owners don't considers the height their rats can fall down but there are several cases where rats broke their spine. Yes rats are awesome climbers but accidents happen and when your rat breaks its spine and won't be able to walk ever again - was it really worth the risk?

If you have older rats, could it be dangerous if they fell from the top of the cage to the bottom? Im getting a similar cage and considering removing the second floor but wondering if it could be risky

Anyone wanna donate their old cage to me🥺. My cage is starting to seriously wear and tear, my girls aren’t helping though as they can’t stop chewing the base but trying to find another base with the correct dimensions is an impossible task.

I'm thinking about getting this cage but have seen others say the bars are a bit flimsy/bendy and can snap... Have you found them okay / had any issues attaching things to them?

Not me thinking rat cages and hamster cages would be similar.
I have a cage with a similar bar set up, one side vertical, one side horizontal, and it makes it harder to set up hammocks or even water bottles.
i just got 3 girls, i learned a lot about how to set up a cage and how to take care of them and help them feel comfortable from here, their my first rats.
I have been dying for some good bedding that I can buy in bulk that is cheap in the U.S. any suggestion? I currently have a massive cage with 5 girls on top and 3 boys on the bottom and I am finding myslef spending soooooo much on bedding replacement because they keep smelling up the bedding!
unfortunately it doenst ship to belgium (i have checked some websites ,) im trying to find a big cage that has big doors like these becuase the past 2 years i have been using the savic zeno knockdown,and i feel its not big enough for my 2 rats and also the quality is great in the beginning but after a while it breaks down :c , and right now big cages like these are around 500 euro (so crazy :'C) ,so i dont know if you will read this but if incase anyone does,please recommend me some cages that are not too pricy 500 is just too much (atm ) uhoh

Do rats need to dig?
Mine don't dig, but is that because they don't have a deep base? (I know when gave them a 'dig box' they loved it!) ..IT WAS BASICALLY AN IKEA PLASTIC TUB WITH A BIT OC SOIL AND SOME SUNFLOWER SEEDS SCATTERED INTO THE SOIL! 😃
I would love to do this for my boys but they pee and poop on everything so their cage would smell awful and be a pain in the butt to clean every day

When I got my savic suite royal 95 cage, I had 2 other people help me put it together, I don't think I would have been able to put it together alone, cause the 3 of us even struggled. 😂 This cage is honestly perfect for a naturalistic setup with it's brown color! I really want to try and make a deeper base for my cage, cause the bedding is literally going everywhere. Since I can't put as much bedding in as before in their old cage, I just got a bigger dig box for my boys, but they really love their coco soil so I think they don't mind. ☺

this is not a species-appropriate facility for a rat cage... absolutely dangerous because of all the danger of falling!
with a degree in zoology, you should actually know that rats don't need the height to climb, but a lot of walking space, which is completely missing here!
in this cage would be 4!!! full floors (including the ones below) important...
i don't understand why so many rat keepers still have no idea about really species-appropriate husbandry!
An appropriately set up cage is not a risk of falling. As you’ve chosen to bring up my degree, yes rats are fossorial hence why I have the widest rat cage available that now has a deep tray that they love digging in. But rats are not ground dwelling animals that don’t climb, and they do ultilise every inch of space and choose to be at the top of the cage most of the time. If you want fat inactive rats that lose the ability to lose their legs in old age you’re more than welcome to keep all the trays and levels in a cage yourself, but an active layout with enrichment isn’t dangerous when done properly. Shelves do not count as added extra unbroken floor space.

I am absolutely so enthralled with this cage's design and layout. My only question about it, is how many males do you think could fit into it?
After my 5 boys go, I want to get another 7 or so. And want to make sure they'll have enough space/if I need to keep them in separate cages :))
7 would be fine depending on how it’s set up. My personal max is around 6 but some people choose to keep 10,11,12 in a cage like this
