I have been working with my local high school, school district, and principal for over a year now, developing my own AI for student and faculty use. I find that it works extremely well and got it approved for use in schools. Each AI learns from the student during a conversation to meet their given needs, adapting to the individual without cheating so the student can critically think for themselves. I won't go into much detail about it. However, I’m happy to evaluate further and provide an alpha link to the AIs currently being developed for student and faculty use upon request. It's fascinating seeing where technology is going and watching the world adapt to properly, and effectively, using it as a tool.
Hi Profesor Newman! I just found you through Suda's videos and I really liked your content. Language it's really interesting to me as a Graphic design student who has come to enjoy Semiotics and Communication. This video, specifically, is very nice because I also experienced "future shock", though I'd like to think we'll be ok despite generative AIs ever growing roll in our lives.
English isn't my main language and I dont live in a country/place where english is spoken usually for communication but I always loved english.. in my school subject and grammar.. literally overall. And I'm a lover of ai and new modern tech... I feel like I just founded my perfect channel. Will become your active subscriber, Sir.
I love you prof. My life saved, I basically do everything right in the first place but still think it's unethical. This help me understand that it's ok to do so. Time to send in my papers
This was a really valuable take! Im glad i watched this. I've always been better at math and science than writing so its nice to hear what good and ethical uses gpt (and alike) can offer. I haven't had many coding classes, but i like to use chat gpt as a way to parse documentation for languages. Its been trained on syntax and its easy to tweak when it hallucinates by checking the actual docs. I also used it to generate lists of greetings and nouns i had to implement into an arcade program. It wasn't coding anything. I really liked how you included not researching THOUGH gpt. Especially in academic papers conclusions need to be based on well trodden ground. Thank you!
You are a very cool, teacher. This was an amazing viewpoint, with very well thought out points. I might start asking LLM to help me start writing, I never thought to use it like this. Thank you, have a great mid 2020's. *Shudder*
Hello proffesor, thanks you very much for your work here. Proffesor, I am not a native speaker, and I've found that some books offer a better experience when read in the original lenguage rather than in translation. It would be incredible if you could talk about them. In English offcourse, I think that could be maybe Oscar Wild, Shekspear, maybe Charles Dickens. Greeting from Colombia .-.
There's some folks on LinkedIn such as Jason Gulya, bit none on RUclips that I know of. I'm actually not so sure is stand by this video anymore completely, inasmuch as I really a feel a student should learn these skills the old fashioned way before they can use AI responsibly and effectively.
Super cool video! Honestly, the ethics of using AI in anything is such a gigantic can of worms that we should probably wait a least a couple of years until the dust settles before making up our mind. Hopefully it won't get pissed at us and annihilate our species 😅
Sir, would you say that writing poetry with the help of ai is considered cheating if you ask ChatGPT to reword/paraphrase your phrases? I’m trying to avoid plagiarism in my writing.
I don't teach creative writing, and don't feel qualified to answer this question, but I think it would depend on the purpose of the assignment and the standards of your instructor. It would also depend on your goals in the act of writing a poem. I would use it perhaps as a thesaurus that can read context, but no more.
None of the copy was generated directly by ChatGPT, just a broad outline. I have a habit of repeating important things three times in a lecture developed over years of teaching 😺

These types of "AI" are really just a very fancy version of auto-complete. I'm not too worried about agency.
Surprised Jacob isn't here.

"How to write with ChatGPT without cheating"
Simple anwser: Don't use it
Tell me you didn't watch the video without telling me you didn't watch the video
I can hear alot of chat-gpt in your script. Sadly chat-GPT ist always using the same terms
Maybe you can make a video of how to not sound like chat-gpt while using chat-gpt
