I loved the "Why didn't you just buy the Vancouver Whitecaps?" part of this because one part he didn't really mention is that buying The Whitecaps would cost around $200M to buy BECAUSE of the certainty that they can't be relegated out of the MLS. North American clubs retain a lot of their value because there is no chance to drop down leagues which is why this story is so exciting. The possibility of promotion and relegation are what makes this story so great. Loved the documentary!
For the first time last month I discovered that I was able to purchase a monthly ticket for National League games streamed over the internet. There are still a few bugs in the system, but it is a joy to be able to watch Wrexham live.
Fascinating. Grew up playing football and watching "Soccer Made In Germany" on PBS in the 70s. Only soccer available to watch on TV back then. No USWNT and USMNT was some years from making the World Cup in 1990. Watched the NASL rise and fail. I really really wish I had thought to apply my analytical and business skills to football in the US. I just didn't think I could "start over" in my 30s banging on the doors of DC United trying to sell my unproven crossover skills. Anyways, quite great to see you in the Exec Dir role! I enjoy the live audio, but would love to be able to watch live. Cheers.
Funny about radio commentaries for matches. Back in the day (in the UK) when colour TVs were just coming in and hideously expensive, there were TV hire shops. Fans would gather round outside the shops watching matches whilst listening to a radio commentary.

This is the first interview I’ve heard where listeners heard exactly how Rob and Ryan’s partnership came about.
Thank you Alan!
