Thank you for not sitting on the fence - I think NP4V.

Carey makes terrific stuff. I’ve got Nordstrand’s in my jazz basses.

Finally, the direct comparison! Well done! Now it's much easier to hear the differences. For me, it's the NP4A, for all styles, rounds and flats. They seem to be a little brighter and richer compared to the NP4, but deeper/rounder than the NP4V, and richer as well. The Power Blades are not for me. Far too dark, and lacking growl.

Agreed! The Power Blade fell short with me and won’t likely be using those pickups in any of basses anytime soon. Glad you enjoyed this series!

    PowerBlades for the win!

I have tried the NP4A, the NP4 and the NP4V in my 1983 Squier JV as well. That bass of mine is a bit brighter (or lack of amp makes it sound less muffled). So the NP4 is my "to go" PU for a 4 string P. Maybe, an "ampless" sound comparison would be more "realistic" as we all play different amps.

    Great demo!
I think these pickups sound more similar than different. The differences are quite nuanced. The exception being the Power Blade, which sounds deeper in the lows and tighter in the highs. Overall, they seem to lack the low mid range warmth and thickness while favoring clarity, attack, and articulation (more modern?). I can see having one P Bass with a more vintage voice pickup and the second one loaded with one of these choices from Nordstrand when you need articulation and clarity. I imagine these pickups would sound great with overdrive and distortion effects.

They're all nice. The first one, np4 caught my ear. The powerblade surprisingly didn't really do it for me.

@@sonojon0 from my experience of cheap basses having a decent string configuration
& set up, including a good fret board,
      works,,
being able up swap out pick ups is an extra advantage ,,
more in line to pro bassists, either for recording ( mainly) ,, & sometimes for live performances where many are also led to accepting pre amp installations to boost signal quality ,
