It sounds like we ether encourage growth or fig production. This will be the first year for my newly leafed cuttings. Some of the most hardy varieties I will plant in ground (6B). Others in 7 gal pots. Thank you for all the knowledge you have shared over the years.
I improperly pruned my fig bushes because they were out of control, before I found your channel. Now I am paying the price. So you are saying let them go? Mine get so tall I can't even see my yard from the deck. I still get tons of figs, but the bushes grow like crazy. They are at least 20 years old.
You’re cooked. Best thing I can think for you to do is every year just prune them to a practical amount for the tree and you if the tree’s full size is really bothering you
Hi Ross, your focus is only on the young fig trees. Could you please divert your attention towards too matured and large in ground fig trees planted in warmer climate and aren’t affected by cold, in terms of pruning and others.. thanks
I will plant LDA near the house, about 3 feet or 5 feet away. Mom fears the fig tree will damage the foundation, so I selected a dwarf tree this time. I used to plant Chicago hardy in the same spot, but after one year, the Chicago hardy became enormous, like 5 feet tall, so I transplanted it to a different place. I heard that LDA is much smaller. I'm trying to get it to root.

If I want to keep my fig trees below 4 ft and have them fruit do I just prune them to an outward facing bud at 4 ft?

You can prune it at any time. I like November. Then I can use the cuttings.
@@sheckydiamond7533 thanks !
Oh yeah, that’s a good idea
My tree is huge and I’m scared it’s going to hit the house and I need to get rid of it soon.😢
