This short by Terry Gilliam actually won an animated short contest. I think it demonstrates the insanity of man's logic: Keep doing the same thing over and over again and hope it eventually works, and don't solve the problem, solve little pieces around the problem and then claim the problem is solved. And you can't argue with the results!
First time I saw this I laughed my butt off Doing the same thing over and over is insanity But there is a fine line between genious and insane But sometimes I wonder
I believe that this was first aired on a TV in the USA on a program called The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine, which was aired on ABC before PBS stared showing Monty Python episodes. I'm 99% certain that that's where I saw it. It's possible that Gilliam actually produced it earlier than that, though.
Tideland leaved me breathless, how can someone be so honest with himself and with life, with a natural talent for wonderful things like this short for example, I think he sees life in a very magic, beautiful, still realistic way. And looking forward to Parnassus. In my opinion, a true genius.
@rhsatrhs: Just read your comment, and you're absolutely right! I too remember seeing this on Marty Feldman's show when I was just a wee lass, and it was so bizarre and funny,it stuck with me for years and I longed to see it again. Nice to see I'm not the only one with a long TV memory. Hooray for RUclips!
You do know that some of his animations were on Monty Python right? Like Marge from that episode where she told her husband to turn that television off at 3:40-3:43. Also, I think that at 4:00-4:04 that voice is Terry Jones. Interesting stuff man. 5 stars and a fav.
This is a masterpiece, but sadly, probably not much appreciated by today's youngsters who need a quick 10 second drip feed and who could never take a 5 minute long haul flight to the end, thus being denied experiencing the finer qualities of historical parodies, whimsical fancies and Pythonesque punchlines. What a pity!
BUILD A FREAKING AIRPLANE!!!!! Don't just invent all the airline accessories and expect man to fly on his own without an airplane! Let me explain in a nutshell; airplane first, tickets, terminals, airline food, etc. later. Write! It! Down!
The Monty Python Museum Thanks for responding. I know it's just a cartoon, but still this defies many sorts of logic. Don't get me wrong, this short hilarious. At least it makes a lot more sense than the animated Titanic movies. Don't ask, just avoid them at all costs.
Happy 83rd Birthday Terry.
Good call!
"Suddenly, 300 years later..."
Did anyone else notice this?
A great short film, one of my favourites!
So Gilliamesque. Thanks for uploading: had never seen it before. Terry is a twisted genius, inmho.

+John Richardson Why was the contest so short?
Oglethorpe Zippelmeier Just a matter of taste I suppose, but I prefer normal underwear.
Simply marvelous! Couldn't breathe cause I was holding my laugh for trying to be quiet so I wouldn't miss anything... Priceless!
FLY!
This was the original animation for "This is your brain on drugs" campaign but was soon determined to be much too promotional-of drugs that is...

I want o know how he flattened the other arm out.
Love This! Pure Gilliam. Love his work.
It's rare to find something like this that is as informative as it is historically correct.
Been looking for this one for a long time. I saw it many years ago on a PBS show that showcased foreign cartoons.
Oh, and it's not even that foreign... a Yank working in England...
Terry Gilliam is my Idol!
