    So I can perform test with system empty? Can I essentially use this tool to flush coolant out?

    Excellent video! Could this procedure also be used to test for a failed head gasket? My engine is consuming coolant (pint a day) with no external leaks to be found. No haze at the exhaust after warm up which of course is usually a sign of HG failure.

      yea this can definitely test for that, i would pull on the plugs after this test and crank it and see if you get coolant spraying from one of the cylinders

    This probably a bad question but here goes. Pressure tester gets hooked up to cap and gets Pressurized right? But that Pressure won't get passed a thermostat correct? So I was thinking this test is no good cause it can't test anything past the thermostat. But then I'm like wait..the cooling system is one big circle. So the Pressure won't get passed the thermostat but the Pressure will go around the other way meeting the thermostat on the otherside...uh right?

    • @salvobrothers5928
      @salvobrothers5928  3 года назад +7

      well its testing pressure on both sides of the thermostat which is testing everything in the system. if there were 2 thermostat, one at each coolant hose running into the engine then yes it would be properly tested cause the pressure would never reach the engine. so i get why your thinking that but its irrelevant.

    I used this pressure test gauge...fortunately i found water leak at high pressure hose to cvt Cooler....immediately i ask mechanic to weld the leak...🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

    My radiator burst . Could this cause my coolant tank to over heat and boil over flow (while the cap is off) when cap is on doesn’t over boil. But eventually the heat and pressure push the liquid and steam from the crack in the radiator . This wouldn’t be signs of a bad head gasket would it? My temp gauge stays half way, no leaks no smoke .. but the coolant tank over flows with the cap off when it get really hot

    I have a koyorad radiator on my 2006 subie sti. Replace radiator hose clamps still have a leak. Bought a pressure tester kit about a year ago. Will be using for 1st time tomorrow. Hoping it's not the radiator

      Found the problem. 2 problems 1st I filled the expansion tank with coolant leaving no room for expansion. 2nd the cap on the expansion tank is not holding pressure at 1.1 bars .ordered new one and removed some coolant from expansion tank with turkey baster. No more leaks for now . Pressure holding at 13 psi .

    If the system doesn’t have a leak, how do you release the pressure to take off the tester?

    My question is how much pressure need to be pump inside the radiator...? Is it same pressure as stated at radiator cap i.e 1.1 bar..? Or need to pump slightly above 1.1 bar..?

    • @salvobrothers5928

      yea usually i put the same amount the cap states or a little more to encourage the leak some more so its obvious haha

      @@salvobrothers5928 Ok..what is allowable maximum pressure for radiator..? Stated operating pressure is 1.1 bar, if let says over pressure., it could damage the seal or any part of the cooling system..am i right?

      @@salvobrothers5928 Noted.. Previously my mechanic pumped until 18 psi then the pressure is dropped to 15 psi and stop there. Visually checked found wet area at the corner of radiator top cover. Suspected leaking due to over pressure. Maybe the o-ring seal top cover only can stand up to 15 to 16 psi, as stated on radiator cap 1.1 bar (around 16 psi)
