- How cool is it to find (and ride!) one of the craziest skinny lines I remember seeing growing up? Absolutely wicked day out with @ddangerousddave and @VanCan (go check out their versions of this ride!). Learned a lot, had a great time, and managed to link up one of the more interesting double black diamond trails on Cypress. We must return to get more of this one while the lower portion still exists, gents. Enjoy!
Trailforks: it's on there, but I can't link it due to reasons the name will allow you to understand :)

Definitely worth popping over to @VanCan and @ddangerousddave to see their version of events! What did you think of 4K24? 🤔
Scookum videya qualerty 🙌🏼
(Translation: good video quality)
Even before you said anything I was thinking about how good this video looked, not even realizing you were doing anything different. It looks really good in my opinion.
What gopro do you use?
And Where do you mount your gopro?
Chin bar, usually an 8, today a 9.
Fun times! Glad we got to ride it before the lower section is turned into mansions.
Dale, after riding some of the GNARLIEST trails: "That was cool."
The change up in POV to following dDave and vise versa is always a clincher in these videos. Gives good perspective to each others’ respective speeds.
Wicked!
Okay Dave’s got some crazy bike control wtf
Such a fun day
@ Dale Stone - Love your videos. You ride with such great control it the toughest looking sections. Keep the videos coming!!
After having ridden all the currently open double black tech at whistler I am so inclined to try out these trails... The challenge makes it so satisfying to clear the lines.
That rolling rock reminds me of Heraclitus: "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." Even when you've ridden a trail hundreds of times, you never know what's coming next.
Wow sick ride dude well done as always! 🤙 I'm going to Cypress for the first time on Monday, super excited!
What a trail! Pretty gnarly in places but you guys were carrying some serious speed, even down the steeps.
Nicely done. I generally watch these videos on my phone, so I didn’t notice any difference in quality/frame rate!
Drum roll please! that made me laugh. Sweeet video! Now it's time for me to go ride.
Saw VanCans version yesterday. Unreal ride.
Digging the lower frame rate as it lets me up the resolution I can watch in. Your 60 fps footage also looks deceptively slow while this looks very fast. On another topic, is there anything in particular you have done to get your bike so quiet (other than your silent hubs)? I have shielded all my cables and my Sight still sounds like a bucket of bolts going down the trail.
Honestly my bike is on the loud end of the spectrum haha. Onyx hubs certainly help!
The one thing that I think makes your videos stand out vs the other channels is the fact you shoot in 60fps. The higher framerate makes peripheral vision much clearer. I think the quality of the footage from this video did look good, but I think a lot of that has to do with better stabilization and a new sensor. GoPro Hero 9 using your old camera settings would be a beautiful thing.
I would agree on the better sensor part for sure. The counterpoint is that 4k24 provides a crisper imager and makes the riding look noticable faster. Time to determine which one is more important to a viewer...
@@DaleStone 4k24 provides a crisper image per frame, but I still think for a sport like MTB where there is so much motion, having more frames with a little less crispness gives a much smoother viewing experience. Around 8:50 in this video when you're doing the switchbacks is where the 24fps hurts the most. As you pan left and right from riding the switchbacks, you lose almost all detail in the surroundings. Watching this side by side to your Braap KOM, the smoothness difference is super obvious.
Think the Hero 9 can film in 4k60, so maybe that's your solution :)
I absolutely agree that from a technical perspective 60+ is undoubtedly the way to go. I suppose the question is whether people who are new to the channel will value that, or see 60 as just some "slow to average" riding footage. Unfortunately there is no way to upload in both 4k24 AND 4k60, for the user to choose their preference...sigh.
Dirty Harry seems to be the most extreme trail on that mountain. Great riding
love the drum roll on the curvy skinnies. awesome video. Ate Go Pro 9 takes awesome videos
Over here in Tasmania we call that rock a "death cookie"
You're welcome
Loved this ride and VanCan’s companion video from earlier this week. Am I missing something, cause I don’t see a posted version from Dave? Anyway, riding and exploring with like-minded and skilled friends like that is the making of lifelong memories. I admit, I’m jealous.
Didn’t notice video quality difference on my phone, but will rewatch on laptop later to check it out... I always watch all your videos at least twice anyway! ;-)
Dave's version will be up this week! ...probably, maybe, hopefully.
🥁🥁🥁 for the main act… lol
Undistinguished trails….love it, true freeriding/enduro🤘🏻
"Where'd Dave go?" 🤣
Great these paths I love.
Damn Dude, some of that looked like it was just vertical down :-O That is some SERIOUS tech right there, something I'd love to see, but don't think I'd attempt if it looks that steep even with the "GoPro Effect" going on :-|
As to the newer camera and settings, think it's more the improvement in image stabilization and actual image sensor quality that made it look better - only have a 1080p monitor, watched it at 1440. The footage is actually so clear you can clearly see and read the signs, it could, for instance, be used in a court of law ;-)
In that case, back to 480p@240fps I go! 😅
It's lucky your Mom doesn't watch your videos, that bonus clip was on the edge ! ;)
oh I watched it and I responded immediately! :)
Cypress so hot right now!
One your best uploads due to resolution quality fur sure 😝
Really enjoyed this. Video quality looked awesome. I'd say this looks like one of the best trails you've shared. That was dope.
Also you got any recommendations for where to take my bike in for a tune up in that one area you're familiar with over here?
My favourite shops were definitely Bicycle Works in Waterdown and Backpedalling in Guelph. A bit of a drive but given how long service lead times are these days... Eastside in Kitchener may be able to help out too.
@@DaleStone Bless your heart Dale. I did go to Backpedalling but like you said, was a 3 week turn around for services D:
Might just have to commit to it unfortunately. Thanks man!
Oh hell no my worst enemy... Moss
The green death...
Dale I dont know how I missed this video, but excellent riding as always. Mind if I ask what stroke your sus is? 140, 150ish?
160F/150R
Nice ride and trail. Definitely miss Van trails. Can't wait to get back there. Now stuck with Kelso, Hydrocut and alike. Cross Country. 😐
Hydrocut is rad! Just... completely the opposite to this one haha. 🙃
@@DaleStone I know. I lived by it for 14 years and didn't ride it. Now i got no choice. 😂😂
My friend rode it some 12 years ago and came all bruised and purple to work. We asked him wtf happened? He said "I went to Hydrocut without a helmet. 😂😂 He smashed hard and he went home without knowing it. Had a mild concussion. 🤦♂️
Keep up with videos. It's good stuff.
Always great video and inspiring. What pedals are those Dale?
Heavily worn OneUp aluminums!
The rock at 0:54 is one of the dislikes on this video
Excellent ridind skills Bravooo, is there a lot of bears?
Yep! Seen 8 this year. 7 in a two week span.
What are your go to snacks before, during or after a session?
Honey roasted peanuts are the new cost-effective go to. 🔥
Curious why they post the no trespassing signs? Are there people that will yell at you or press charges? Recently I had an older woman say to me mountain bikers are going to bike where they want and I responded absolutely. :)
Liability.
Dirt looks absolutely prime, oh yea, im using that 4k baby.
Maybe I'll just borrow Nic's camera, permanently.
Dirty Harry honestly looks pretty terrifying
There is certainly the occasional pucker moment!
It’s only considered a black on trail forks for some. Should definitely be a double black
Is 160 on front and 150 will be enough?🤔
It was plenty!
🤙🤙🤙🤙👊👊👊👊
4k24 is so much better!
geth the gopro max if you're upgrading
Oh video name change haha?
Nooo what happend with the 60fps... all youtubers should use 60fps.
Gotta experiment and see what sticks!
4k24 > 2.7k60 any day
Depends on the goal!
