So, we used to have a role that could do that, back when there was a permission hierarchy (in other words: back when roles could take away permissions). With the new system on how roles work, that was now impossible to implement the way we did, and a big hustle to do with the new system. So this is actually very nice to have. Thank you.
Doesn't the permission hierarchy still exist in channel and category permissions? I haven't worked on my server in a while, so I might be wrong about this, but I remember able to disable permissions for certain roles in the channel categories.

The way it used to work just had the role that was higher up in the list overwrite the permission in such a case.
They may still call it "muting" and I bet at the low level API it will be called mutes, but I see where Discord is going with this. Less reliance on bots, more reliance on the actual client. Hopefully "indefinite" gets added as an option for mutes through the feature.

An actually useful update, Kinda. A) You need to add custom timeout amounts so they can be more up to standards. B) The Timeout reasoning needs to be displayed to the person timed out, Removing the need for the person to be DMed as to why they were timed out. Besidse that, an actually good update.

It's a better mute, since it can even timeout mods. Basically the person with the timeout perm can timeout anyone below his role. (Excluding the server owner)
This feature is a great add on but I would like to recommend something. Can you please add something to stop sadistic mods since there is one server I'm in that I want to stay in in order to stay updated about the game. But the mods keep on muting me with no valid reason. They don't even listen to my side of the story. They just listen to the one who has picture perms in general and I get muted since I don't have perms. If you can add something to counteract this that would be great but I don't think it would happen since it's very unlikely any discord staff will see this. Still trying my chances though.
I like to imagine the people who I time out just physically phase into an alternate reality where they are forced to watch timelapses of them being cringe

They wouldn't apologize, they'd probably just change a vpn location and make a new account under a new IP. And if its not based off IP then they'd just make a new account. People go above and beyond to cause chaos so you can't really expect people not to find a solution to the problem that doesn't involve apologizing.
after you get timed out, your headphones start blasting baby shark until you have gone through your timeout. Every time you be mean, baby shark you start hearing baby shark in the background of your headphones and in the end leaving you traumatized for the rest of your life.
