Been making this since the 70’s, I spread vanilla pudding over the top and then, cool whip over that. My husband’s favorite cake, he ask for this every birthday!🎉
Another good frosting option is make a box of instant pudding (your flavor of choice) using only 1/2 the amount of milk. Then stir in the cool whip. Spread in on the cake and refrigerate an hour or so.
I was craving something sweet I have a box cake in my pantry but I didn’t want just a cake and icing so I’d forgotten about the poke cake I was like yess I have strawberry 🍓 jello and whip cream ❤ hmmm it’s a Duncan Hines golden cake mix 🤔 just took the cake out of the oven now I’m waiting for it to cool. My jello is 6oz boxes so I’ll have to use half. Hoping I can pull this off looks so good ❤
It looks great, but you made the jello part wrong. You dissolve the jello in boiling water and then add the cold. It must have taken forever to dissolve in cold water!
Nope. You add boiling water to the jello and then mix it until it dissolves. After that you pour it onto the cake immediately. No need to add cold water to it
My mom used to take a couple of teaspoons of the jello crystal and mix it in the whip cream. Gave it a lovely flavour and color too!

I love your sense of humour! It sounds like something I'd like to make today.
Nicole that is a Blast from the Past! We even had these for school lunch desserts. Thanks.
I have been waiting for you to make this cake. There are some who use 7up but this is the best version that I have come across. Thanks.
This is exactly how my grandma would make it! Delicious!

When my mom made it, we really didn’t let it cool down. It was and still is our favorite but we used vanilla pudding for the topping.
Nicole, you rocked it on the Today show!!!
My mom always made these! Thanks for reminding me....I'll make one this weekend!
I made this for a football party everyoneloved it i putsome whip cream on the side it was all gone and many wanted the recipe its really delishous❤
Ahhhh an oldie & goodie. 💖
Have you made Potato Candy?
Nice at Christmas.
Love poke cakes, they’re so very moist!
Thanks for sharing.
Looks awesome ❤
Looks yummy!

Do you have to let the cake cool before you pour the jell-o
Can you use Oz's of jello instead
Does the jello area end up chewy or hard?
Neither! It's just moist. Not chewy or hard. It really just gives flavor and it doesn't have a jelly feel
You said you add cold water to the Jello first🤷♀️does your jello dissolve?
Nope. You add boiling water to the jello and then mix it until it dissolves. After that you pour it onto the cake immediately. No need to add cold water to it
Healthier version: Angel food cake with sugar-free Jello and zero sugar whipped topping. Lots of berries on top. Yum!
I imagine you can also use a "from scratch" cake for the bottom half.
Sorry but poke cakes started in the 70s. You reverse the Jello it's hot water first then cold water.
Glass pans go into a 325 oven, not 350.
I’m rocking with this recipe but doing the jello in reverse hurt me
You didn't show how you put the holes in the cake
