- How to enable Strava Live Segments on your Garmin watch. In the example here I use my Fenix 5, but the procedure is the same on the Garmin 935 and the 735XT (only these watches support Strava Live Segments at the moment).

I have problems with live segments when I use the trail run function. I use a forerunner 935, and live segment does appear, but after some seconds it dissepears and automatically changes field on the clock so I have to manual push back the segment to appear on the button on downside leftside while running. This is quite irritating, and it only happens with the trail run, not on the run function. Anyone have a answer to fix this. I have tried to find a setting to fix this without luck. You dont want to hold on to this while running fast over rocks and roots:)

On Fenix 5 Plus with 15.40 FW it looks totally different during the segment run. There's a vertical line with three dots... kind of "start", "finish" and blue one in the middle. The delta time is showing on the right. No idea is the line color is meaningful and "+" delta means I'm ahead of CR or behind? Today I tried this function first time and it looked like with "blue" and +1,23 I had to win the segment. However in fact I lost it. Another disadvantage is that I can't see my pace at all - only delta time
Can you switch quickly to map showing segment you are currently running on Fenix 5 Plus ? Is it topo or just a track?
What camera setup are you using and it is so stable when you were running 🏃♂️?

Thanks. I manage to get my segments transfered to my watch (Fenix 5 Plus) but they don’t show up when I enter a segment, running nor biking... is there a setting that I am missing?
Sorry for the late reply. One setting to check is that inside your Garmin phone app - Segments menu: make sure Strava is selected. Best, Alf
Hi! Great info, really helped me to install the Garmin Fenix 5. Tried it this morning but I cant figure out how to se the map while I´m on o segment? On my garmin 520 Edge (for cycling) you just have to push up/down button to see the course and map? Perhaps there is something that I have to configure?
Is it possible to turn on map while doing Strava segment on Fenix 5 (Plus)? Have you figured it out?

Hello, i need help. i have a 735xt and a strava member account. Garmin app shows "use strava segments", also any segments starred. Why i dont see live segments in the clock? Clock shows only "segments" not "strava live segments". Everything becomes update ans upload works fine but no segments. :(

Hi there, yes only starred segments will show up on the watch. Only exceptions to this is if you have set a goal on a segment or have "popular segments" turned on.
Odd my garmin connect page doesnt have that segment section like your?

Hei, den har jeg ikke vært borti før dessverre. Jeg finner heller ikke noe i dokumentasjonen fra Strava om at segmenter må være public for å virke. Du har kanskje testet allerede - men om ikke, kan det være verdt å "unstarre" et av dine private segmenter, foreta en synk med klokka, for deretter å starre samme segment. Sier ifra om jeg kommer over noen andre tips!

Ja helt enig. Jeg betaler premium og ønsker å kunne surre på på egenhånd uten noe offentlige greier.
Er av typen som ikke har en eneste sosial media og ønsker kun å bruke funksjonen livesegment på klokka da det er gøy å konkurere mot meg selv live. Også dårlig ikke livesegment funker på langrenn. Jeg registrerer skiturene mine som løping eller sykling for å kunne benytte livesegment funksjonen, derfor private segmenter hadde vært nyttig for ikke å fylle stravosfæren med fjollete segmenter som ikke gir noen mening for andre. Farten på ski korresponderer dårlig med løp og sykkel.

Thanks for the video. It didn't look like it but I missed if you said you *need* to have smartphone with you while running to get the Strava live segments?
Hi! It was not mentioned in the video, but once the syncing with Strava has been done pre-ride, there is no need for mobile connectivity during the activity itself. Watch relies on gps data to identify when on/off/close to segments. Alf

I can’t find the Segment section in the app
Hi there, are you on iPhone? If so - go to the app, press more on the bottom right. Then push Training, then Segments - from there you will be able to change between Garmin and Strava segments. Hope it helps. Alf

I have set this up the same way yet for some reason still cant get the notification to work that I am approaching a segment or are on one.
There might be an issue with syncing on your watch. After you do a sync could you check that the segments menu inside Garmin app still displays that strava segments are enabled? Best, Alf
Alf they are all there.
Meaning that you have a list of segments displayed in the app? The screen in the app should say «you are using strava segments». If all this is as it should, try a complete off/on of watch (press and hold top left button). Also check that firmware version is 8.00 (settings-about).
Next steps: try to unstar your strava segments, do a sync with the watch, and try to star the segments again inside strava before doing another sync. Best Alf

hi, can you help me? Whysegemnts not alerted when i ride on course? i think that way courses not have any sens, if you are on other town or something... Becouse if i want to plan course with for example 5 segments where i want to speed up, i can't do it becouse watch dont alerted and i don't know on which place i should speed up.. garmin fenix 5x, please help if you can
Will try: are you certain strata segments are enabled? Garmin Connect App->More->Segments. And do you have the segments you want marked as starred inside Strava? Best, Alf
Yes, i have enable it. But segments working only when i choose: bike>training>live segments strava. If i want follow on course which i planned (for example five segments on course)- so bike>courses and choose course and follow it, i cant see segments and no alerted...
I found this answer from Strava, seems like that function is not possible at the moment I am afraid. «Can I use Live Segments on my Garmin while following a course?

Completely agree with you... a workaround might be(not tried myself) to use the strava routes app. Following a course made in strava should (judging from a search) have the live segments showing up.
