MIDS A and MIDS B are buttons for the Multifuctional Information Distribution System. Basically its a data link. Currently they are non-functional in the game but in the future they will be used to interact with various things with the data link. What specifically those things are I'm not sure but I'm thinking it'll be for forcing updates and/or sending and receiving messages through the link.
And... if you want to talk to ATC before engine start, Groundcrew, ground power, EXT PWR, reset, GND PWR, 1, B (hold for 2 seconds), 2, B, 4, B, Tune radio, blah, blah, blah. Don’t forget to disconnect ground power after engine start or before taxi.
I’m not too full bottle on how to setup SRS but I will look into it and see what I can do as I know there is limited videos on setting it up correctly on RUclips
I'm having issues now. Why do shit always happen to me and then I waste so much time. I get confused between the comm 1 button and 2. Are they for different stations. Edit: seems like they are lol.
You could have simplified radio commands enabled in the main menu options or if you’re on the ground it may just default to AUTO until you get airborne?? Not sure on that one mate?? Potentially a double bind also?

Also some of the campaign builders and mission designers will refer to comm1 as pri and comm 2 as aux.

Be sure to turn off 'easy communication ' under gameplay settings otherwise manual radio won't work. I had to google it and read dcs manual.

This was what was hanging me up in this tutorial. Thanks for the info! It kept saying auto and no menus after it. Very frustrating.

Check that you don’t have easy communications enabled in the main menu settings mate
