Regarding the legends pick before the game: I was one of the Pandoras player every game.
I really got into TFT at that time and didn't want to learn items until I understood the rest of the game better. It made it a lot of fun for me and I enjoyed TFT afterwards a lot more

What does it mean to learn a comp? I wanna get into tft and i know basically nothing.
Play a lot.
it means knowing what to do when you want to go for a certain comp. for some comps you need to keep your gold, get to a certain level and then roll down to find your specific carry (reroll comps), while for others you get to 50 gold and then use any gold above that to to search for your units (slow rolls).
some also depend on your level. for example Mort played Bard carry this game, a unit which you're most likely to get on lvl 8. if he wanted to play Lilia carry he should've waited till lvl 9 to roll. both are variations of Mythic comp.
sometimes you get an early vital piece for a certain comp. it could be a hero augment or a lucky shop. sometimes you're contested: others got the units you want for your comp before you. knowing what to do in these situations defines "learning a comp".

Comp = Team composition.
To learn a comp is knowing which champions in that comp is your Tank and which one is a Carry. Lastly, which items to build on those champions you learned are your mains in a particular game.
The above comments summarize it nicely, but I'll add:
When you start learning, try to just learn one basic comp you can force every game (like Duelists, 7 Mythic, 7 Storyweaver, etc)
Once you feel comfortable with it (even if you aren't winning games), then expand it a bit. Instead of just a pure Storyweaver vertical focusing on maxing Kayle, maybe also focus on adding in other traits. If you have AD items, throw in Kaisa for Trickshot and itemize her. Or if you get AP items, lean into Arcanists via Zoe.
Learn a single team comp and then learn to play flexibly with it.

So many smurf videos lately. Winning in emerald isnt exactly hard
Maybe not for a pro like Mort or some challenger/gm player.
But you realize Emerald and above is top 5% of ranked players right lol? The majority of the playerbase (less than 95% but still a lot) would have trouble winning in Emerald.
As a low Masters player, I could probably average >4.0ish in Emerald, but still get plenty of bot 4s.
But you're right, for Mort, Emerald lobbies wouldn't be a huge challenge. He probably has the most game knowledge out of anyone lmao (and he has hit challenger in the past, he's definitely one of the best players )
