  • Come along with me as I ride the Half Enchilada, located in Moab, Utah. This iconic bike trail is only half of the Whole Enchilada. Rated as a double black diamond, this trail contains lots of exposure and requires lots of technical riding, so this trail is not for absolute beginners. However, I have been riding MTB for a little over a year, and I was able to ride most of the trail-- with the exception of several extremely technical spots. I actually felt like I progressed as a rider significantly over the course of the 15 miles that we rode. If you are planning to ride this route, be sure to do lots of research to ensure your safety and enjoyment.

Another good one Aspen! Epic riding in Utah! Nice job on the last section of the PR along the river. That’s a pretty exposed section and not much room for error.

Good job for only a year on the bike! My first trip to Moab was in the 90s, gone back to ride Porcupine Rim a bunch since then. Riding UPS or LPS as a loop from town makes it a bit more of an adventure for those of us that know the trail well can rip down it pretty quickly after a shuttle.

The loop would be amazing! I LOVED riding this type of terrain. It’s my absolute favorite. I wish we had it in KY. 🤣

Haha! I was having a blast! I felt like a totally different rider from the beginning to the end. I wish there was stuff like this to ride where we are from.

I can see it's exiting, however be carefull as it's easy to get serious injured/hurt if you fall of in that crazy speed!❤

Yes! I’m a cautious rider, but definitely some dangerous sections!! The fish bowl effect from the GoPro lens makes it look worse than it is. Thanks for watching!! :)

That is my second favorite trail in Moab. I have only been there to ride once, in 1994 to be exact. Poison Spider w/ the Portal was my favorite trail and there wasn't a single other person around when I had ridden it solo. I rode the Half Enchilada solo also, but I did see four other riders. In my opinion, every mountain biker needs to ride at least the Half to fully understand how beautiful the views are. Videos don't really do it justice.

Portal looks insane!! Maybe one day…ha! I totally agree- videos don’t even get close to showing the full scope of what it’s really like. I LOVED riding in Moab. Can’t wait to go back, especially with more experience.

@aspenswanderings I watch videos of Moab all the time in the hope that I can make it back. I highly doubt I would ride the Portal nowadays at my age, even though I still ride black diamonds/tech, but the Whole Enchilada is a definite.

Sadly, they currently don’t allow e-bikes on this trail. Maybe they will in the future!
