❤ I share these videos with my mom's cadet corps in Lachute, QC. I find DJ so informative and entertaining that I send these types of videos as ideas for the commanding officer to review and make into activities for his bushcrafting excursions. I'm hoping that if they amass enough kids, that they'll set up a relay with an amalgamation of activities picked from these videos that will encourage even more kids to join as new recruits.
Holy cow, DJ, not only do you maintain a high level of quality you also consistently up the game and take it to a higher level. I can only imagine the amount of preparation, planning, time, and energy this took to put together and edit. As always, genuinely impressive work, sir. Also, I REALLY appreciate your minimal use of background music, it's an excellent choice in music and it's just lightly there in the background unlike SO MANY other channels that use such obnoxious or overly loud music and you can't hardly hear what they are even saying...which I assume is the point of their video, lol. Anyway, this was perfect.
Thanks DJ, very educating and also entertaining video. What makes your videos extra pleasing is your calm and sympathetic style without shouting and unnecessary mannerism.
After seeing you with that grass bed as a coat. It gave me an idea If you stuffed branches in it and so on that would make a good Ghillie suit. Awesome for duck hunting.
Best RUclips video I've seen in a long time! I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago, and we used to burn our leaves in the street along the curb, tossing a potato in the fire and retrieving it when the fire and embers subsided. Delicious!
Hi DJ 👋, Amazing job with the spit rotation project. Wow, super cool. Thanks again for all the educational, informative and entertaining content. Your work always makes me think of my days as a Scout and my summers spent camping. I always look forward to seeing what you’ll do next. Thanks for inspiring me to continue with my own adventures. Take care.
Hey!! Wow thx a bunch for the kind words. Honestly I’m so so happy to read stuff like this, and I’ll continue to make videos and grow with you all. Made my day. Thank you.
I can’t believe that for all the camping, survival, and fishing videos I’m subscribed to, this is the first time your channel wound up in my recommendations. 1.18 million subscribers and I’m just getting this now? There’s something terribly wrong with the algorithm. I’ve camped all over the country, from Wisconsin to California, Arizona, and for decades in Hawaii. I’m 61, so for most my life there was no such thing as the internet or RUclips. Now I’m hooked on it after disregarding it for so long. Your channel is incredible. I’ve known all my knots since my kid days and sailing around the South Pacific and rigged all sorts of tarps and shelters, even made hammocks out of old fishing nets that drifted on desolate beaches. But, I’ve never made an automatic rotisserie that was designed by Leonardo DeVinci. That’s just so cool, man. The principal is genius and you made it happen with some sticks and paracord and a knife. Oh, and a rock for the counter weight. This is basically how an old grandfather clock works. And you cooked a chicken with it. Way more useful than knowing the exact time in the woods, for sure. You’re a resourceful and entertaining dude. Just subscribed.
I tend to skip these long videos but you got me there. Very informative, cool story, straight to the point. Music and this place added to the mood. Thanks for sharing!
This was a really inspiring video. I love Da Vinci, combining his mechanisms with bushcraft is just brilliant. I suspect that a larger diameter axle for the pendulum would slow down the rotation and extend the time a bit. I'll definitely be trying this one.
This was so fun to watch from beginning to end! You're so engaging and there is a lot of great information here. I wonder if that daVinci device can be used for other things too? Brilliant!
Genius is right 😅but man I love the ladder, I will be building one soon in the future bc I'm going fishing n camping with friends on lake Ontario soon. Thanks for all your videos!!!!
Standing on the shoulders of giants as they say, I learned all this from other inspiration, so I can’t take much credit aside from the filming, delivery, and hard work to make it happen Haha! Thank you so much!
I think its great you went back to the build a year later. I remember the video of you building this (I think), now seeing it a year later still standing is pretty cool. Something like this is definitely on my to do list!
Another amazingly helpful video. Your skills are just beyond. And, it was so much fun watching you create. Always so inspiring, yet practical. Thank you once again, DJ. Stay safe.
I've always been impressed by the traditional Japanese, etc techniques of weaving dry grasses into sandals and rain capes. It's like twisting cord, but on steroids. Oh, yeah, and that South American grass rope bridge they remake each year. I gotta say, I watch a lot more weaving than little boy me anticipated. :)
This video has to be one of my favorites DJ 😃 Such knowledge, such skill, and the practical applications for it all... Very Cool! 🤗 This is a fantastic example of just exactly what a person can accomplish with each step that you teach, and what can be done for anyone in a serious survival situation. Thanks for letting me tag along my friend 💞 Take care of yourself, and I'll see you next time! ☺️
What a great video with so much valuable content. I also really loved the vibe of this video, educational, relaxed and at the same time adventurous. Also recognized your new finnish puuko knife. I think I have one from the same smith.
Ive always loved outdoors grew up in arizona in the states but recently moved to oklahoma plan on going to forest near here to try some of these things out want to send the best vibes i can thx sir for uploading your knowlage and the knowlage of others
I love your videos and have learnt a lot watching them. A question I have regarding the grass mats is, are ticks not a concern where you are? Because when I think about high grasses, I think ticks and everything they can carry. If they're not a problem in Canada, I may have to consider moving...
The amount of skills and techniques in one video is truely impressive. I'll be saving this to reference it often. Also gonna give a sub and grab as many videos as I I can use from your channel. Thank you for existing!
Great video. Imagine if DJ put the note in the book at the end (I don’t think he did, but the thought crossed my mind and made me laugh a little). God bless man, thanks for the vid! Will implement the Da Vinci Rotisserie eventually
LMAO!! Ahhahaha oh man, that would be hilarious 😆 I promise I’m more humble than that / probs wouldn’t have read this live if I didn’t find it right there. Definitely uncomfortable talking about myself or any sort of praise haha . Really hoping Jon comes to defend this 🤣🤣
You are a well-polished, intelligent young man. I really enjoyed your skill and presentation. I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to catching up on the rest of your videos. Thank you!

awesome video! i have a question about the rotisserie. did you ever have any trouble with the part between the 2 sticks getting caught up? it looks like that rock goes pretty crazy sometimes and might swing up over the top of the frame, or the top of the rope, causing it to get stuck and stop the whole process. maybe a heavier rock on that part, so it can't swing so wildly, or a lighter rock as the main weight up the tree would make it turn slower so it doesn't swing so wildly? actually as i write that, i think that reducing the size of the main weight would be the best option. because it would most likely reduce the chances of the small rock getting tangled up, slow down the rotation so you get more even turning, and as the note in the video said, it would increase the time before the device needs to be reset. so ya, seems like a smaller weight would greatly improve the build. i'll definitely have to give this a try sometime

@@TheBearEssentials that's awesome! if doing that had the effect i thought it would, then there's a solid chance that the few other things i have considered tweaking might just work how i'm thinking too. now i'm definitely gonna have to give this a go on my next big trip
Hey by the way my friend any edible mushrooms you pick you can take all of it since the stuff you see is only the reproductive organ and it will grow more there. BUT if you want it to spread around the area like its supposed to you can just give the top a little smack to spread the spores just lightly it will also keep the inside of your carry bags clean of spores to lol.
Okay, but how do you prevent the rock from passing over the thread at the moment of rotation and getting stuck, preventing it from unwinding like in the first demonstration?
Well, it’s a slipped square knot technically. You know when you pull the two loops? (Bunny ears) If you pulled those all the way through it’s a square knot.
Thanks everyone for watching!

Ah I had no idea! Thanks for letting me know!
Thanks DJ! 👊🏻👍🏻 God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you always my friend 🫶🏻
awesome video!
i have a question about the rotisserie.
did you ever have any trouble with the part between the 2 sticks getting caught up? it looks like that rock goes pretty crazy sometimes and might swing up over the top of the frame, or the top of the rope, causing it to get stuck and stop the whole process.
maybe a heavier rock on that part, so it can't swing so wildly, or a lighter rock as the main weight up the tree would make it turn slower so it doesn't swing so wildly?
actually as i write that, i think that reducing the size of the main weight would be the best option.
because it would most likely reduce the chances of the small rock getting tangled up, slow down the rotation so you get more even turning, and as the note in the video said, it would increase the time before the device needs to be reset.
so ya, seems like a smaller weight would greatly improve the build.
i'll definitely have to give this a try sometime
Oh it really only did that viscous swing when I had the heavy rock on there. Which only lasted 4 mins (i didn’t show changing it up, bc it was just a bit of a boring scene) but I did change to a lighter rock and at the end you can see it slows down significantly.
So your thoughts are exactly right!!
Well done! And thx for watching :)
"I'm just gonna sit down and read this book ... oh look there's a note in here"🙄😐😂
Okay, but how do you prevent the rock from passing over the thread at the moment of rotation and getting stuck, preventing it from unwinding like in the first demonstration?
@TheBearEssentials where can I get the ax you used in this video?

Oh, I have to harvest my apples. Oh, now for the BUILD.. What a BUILD , LOVE the BUILD, mty build My BUILD, what a wonderful BUILD
Woww perfect job, thank you very munch for video. Book survival ?
In 34 years of existence on this planet, I've never heard of anyone using a square knot for there shoes.
Well, it’s a slipped square knot technically. You know when you pull the two loops? (Bunny ears) If you pulled those all the way through it’s a square knot.
wow
How was the camera set up after a year?
I would expect the constrictor knot to be under more tension if you tie it before wedging the knife blade
If you offered classes, I would attend them
