I like the short format. Ctrl-5 is new to me, thanks. My quick and dirty cheat to clear anything with formatting I don't want is to select a blank cell or row of cells above and a range including the cells i want cleared and ctrl-d to give it all the blank values and formatting from above. Lazier than the paint brush even.

Nice! Ctrl+D from blank cell above to clear all formatting. I use Ctrl+D sometimes for formula copy, but this is a great tip.
