Put Travelstar whitewalls on it, gold package, everybody loves the car, I've put about 7k miles on it in 6 months

They fixed the issue with the north star engine by the time it got to this year. I’m talking about the bolts in the engine problem they had. Where the repair was more than the cost of the car.
high mileage is not an issue if the car has proper maintenance....I bought my 1993 mercedes W124 400E with 150K miles about 6 years ago , and I now have 277K miles ( daily driven in FL and Maine...with a few round trips FL-ME )...
First thing I tell folks that are looking at the DeVille/DTS series NOT to look at the beauty. Put the car on a rack to lift it off its wheels. The first thing to view is the underside for oil leaks! Yes, these cars can be terribly expensive trying to repair a NorthStar. The oil pan gasket alone is over $3500 because the entire engine has to be 'lifted' up to change out the gasket. Then there are the oil seals of the engine to view. Look at the valve cover gaskets as well. These potential issues also gets extremely expensive. While the car is in the air check the CV joints and boots for wear and leaks. Check the ball joints. After the oil leaks have been scrutinized, look at the cooling system. The car has an aluminum radiator that requires a little rust-inhibiter capsule each time the system is flushed. There's certain maintenance required for these cars otherwise, you've got a money pit on your hands. One could spend enough money restoring these cars that could purchase another car! Then after the underside and engine bay have been inspected - make sure to look around the lower plastic rocker panels. This area is prone to corrosion. You also want to inspect where the rear fender meets the bumper at the wheel arches. I know these bad boys quite well, I've restored 3 of them. I also sold them immediately. If you don't get a well-maintained DTS it WILL take you to the cleaners. I kept my 2002 DeVille because she's a sweetie! I use it as my beater, she's got 147,000+ miles and still runs like a scalded cat! I purchased it new and only burned premium gasoline in it. The manufacturer says these cars can run on unleaded regular - which is a crock - this is a high-performance engine. USE PREMIUM IN A DTS! I also broke my '02 in the correct way. I take it out religiously on the weekends early to run it between 65-85 mph after I get it up to speed I CHOMP the accelerator pedal which keeps the carbon from building up. This carbon building up causes the dreaded "loose bolt/head gasket syndrome." The carbon builds up which hammers the bolts in the head outward blowing the head gasket. You cannot drive these cars like the church-lady, you've got to take a car like this out regularly putting it through its paces - driving it like the true performance car it is to keep it in tune. (Like Porsche for example, you gotta take them out and let the engine 'flex its muscles' to keep it in tune) Like I mentioned NO unleaded regular in these. By burning premium unleaded in my '02, my fuel injectors have never been removed from the car - they didn't even need to be cleaned. The owner's manual says a tune up is required at 100,000 miles. I went 130,000 miles just to see - I took it in to be tuned up and the technician said I could still have easily achieved more miles on the odometer before I needed a tune up. This is compliments of premium unleaded gasoline and those platinum tipped spark plugs. These cars are gorgeous - but look past the cosmetics and inspect the car thoroughly. They can very easily vacuum all the cash from the old checking account! Some of these cars went from the showroom to the junk yard in one fell swoop! This is why it's important to know the maintenance history to see how well it was kept up. That NorthStar can be a byotch!

What is the reason so many people do not like the Northstar engines. Are there some years that are better for Cadillac than other years? Would love to have on of this generation as a daily driver.
97-99 Cadillacs with the Northstar were the worst issues for “blown” head gaskets. It isn’t a true head gasket failure, but the studs holding the head/block strip away and coolant mixes with the oil and kaboom, she overheats. In order to fix the issue you can: 1. Drop in a new motor or 2. Remove the engine and restud with thicker, more coarse head studs. No matter which route you take, it’s at least a $4k job. They’re also known for oil leaks at the case half, in addition to being a PITA to work on. Same old song and dance, you’re looking at $3-$4k to reseal the engine. If you’re going to get a Cadillac with a Northstar, best to find one from 2005-2011. I have 06 Lucerne and a 99 DeVille and I enjoy driving these cars and admire the engine
After 05, the overheating/pulled head stud issue was resolved with thicker studs. The biggest issue with this generation Northstar is the potential case half oil leak

"Northstar System" - that's a warning label you know.
This is after they fixed the issues. But they had already built up the bad rep.
Look up the Cadillac Talisman, the seats in the Talisman blow those seats away by a long shot.
nice looking car...would like to see more in this overall price range.

+ Leach - I think you mean seeing dollar signs flash before your life! Immediately when you take these in for service - the service writer's pupils turn into $$$! You never get out of the shop without spending $1000 and greater! I caution people to proceed with caution when buying this. Just because it's shiny and pretty all dolled up with the fake carriage roof - doesn't mean it cannot be 'devil with a blue dress on'!
G. Morgan -Morgan.. I meant what I typed... regardless of what someone on an internet site thinks... I don't need fans or corrections... freedom of speech... thought... common sense 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@mrgeorgeleach7498 - What in the hell are you talking about? I don't know who you are, I cited what I know to be true. I am an avid car collector. To give you an idea, I collect European automobiles 4 of which are Rolls-Royce models.
When I was equating the pupils with dollar signs I meant them, I don't know who you are! Sorry you missed the point totally - I was agreeing with you!!!
You weren't reading with understanding. I wasn't chiding you, 'you' was figurative. I am talking about these avarice-filled auto shops! If you've ever owned a Cadillac you know what I mean. When they see the Cadillac crest coming, everything is automatically hundreds of dollars more!
That's what I meant -
G. Morgan I was typing not talking..... there is a difference although... not in this present world
