    I use a salad spinner with frozen veg from the shops. My stacking dryer doesn't like me sticking the frozen veg in frozen as it nearly drowns it as it melts.
    Hope you are recovering well and looking forward to your return ❤❤

    Speaking of pizza cutter I also use mine to tenderize steaks. Just sprinkle on meat tenderizer and roll cutter in all directions on both sides.

    My favorite new jam recipe using dehydrated fruit (dates, apricots, raisins, etc. Using pint size narrow mouth mason/ball jar. Place 6 dates, cover with water, place in refrigerator overnight. Using the blender blade on the jar, blend until smooth. Dried apricots or raisins also work well. Keeps for about a week in refrigerator. No clean up as its all done in same jar. I am soaking cranberries with dried apples now. Will let you know how it turns out.

    Thank you for your videos, and this one, especially. I got a lot of good ideas and will not have to reinvent the wheel! I have gotten back into dehydrating, and appreciate the tips. We recently moved to a very rural area and many things are not available in the stores, so dehydrating batches of herbs, etc., helps keep my culinary skills up to snuff. Your tips are always great. I did not know you were under the weather, but are very glad to see you are recovering.

    I bought the spice cups for my Kitchen Aid coffee grinder. They work great and have a solid cap and a shaker lid. Before I bought the spice cups kit for my coffee grinder, I would use a small piece of press n seal to keep the grinder clean.
    Thanks for the video on dehydrating hacks.

    It sounded crazy to me to water when im drying to dehydrate, but for thicker pastes and sauces, i find mixing water in helps
    Me spread the food so it can evenly dry.

    Do you ever put your powders in gel caps? To make your own daily vitamins as an example? I just bought the CAPSULE-IT Capsule Filler by Herb Affair and will be filling them with my home grown, dried and powdered herbs. I make about 2 TBSP of 30 of the most nutritious herbs and mix them together, so every morning I get a microdose of a variety of herbs.

      I make them sometimes, but we've found we do better to just add it to all of our food all the time, and I don't have to spend all that time making capsules. We did for a long while, and after time, I've just decided that my time is worth more - and we get all those nutrients constantly through the day.

    Hi....do u have any tips for dehydrating kumquats? I had it dehydrating for 18 hours and there's some that are dry but some still have moisture

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  16 дней назад

      Then keep drying. Things take as long as they take to dry. Did you cut them in half? Did you slice them? are you trying to dry whole?

  • @BB-tn6yp
    @BB-tn6yp Месяц назад

    Tomatoes! Chopped them up, let drain in colander to reduce excess moisture and have had in dehydrater for most of 2 days. It’s still sticky (bendable) what do I do to completely dry it???

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Месяц назад

      Are you testing them when cool or right off the tray? They aren't going to be crunchy. How large are the pieces?

    • @BB-tn6yp

      @@ThePurposefulPantry
      I removed from trays and let them cool completely. They still felt tacky so I redistributed and put back in for the last few hours. When originally cut, they were sliced thinly but not “see thru” 😊. I was hoping to leave in slices and powder as needed. Btw, what temp should they be processed at? I have them at 125…. Should it have been higher?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Месяц назад +1

      That's fine - you don't want them to burn. You can leave them whole until powdering. They should break easily (but not necessarily crunchy), and they will be sort of bendable because of the nature of the tomato but they shouldn't bend easily - pliable is a better word. If not, they may just need more time. And they only need about 5 min to cool to test.

    • @dgarnett4220
      @dgarnett4220 Месяц назад

      I just purée and spread on sheet, dries well. Or I cheat and buy tomatoe paste in large tins Costco . Spread out and tomatoe powder or paste. Works good. If tacky after back in to dehydrater for 4-5 hours. Really hope your health is good now. Takes a lot out of us older gals ❤❤❤❤❤
