Turkey Vulture vs Wild Turkey: Are They Really So Different?

  • In honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to look into how different are turkey vultures and wild turkeys truly are! Do they only share a word in common, or are they similar? Let's find out!
    Turkey vultures (Cathartes aura) are New World vultures, where as wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) are in the family Phasianidae, meaning they're related to pheasants and chickens!

    Despite Turkey Vultures and Wild Turkeys sharing few actual similarities, I’m often surprised by how many people think they’re closely related! This video pointed out all of the differences brilliantly, and I think it will clear up a lot of questions that people have. Great work Shelby!

    Respect them both, I can remember when it was rare to see wild turkeys. So glad their populations have recovered.

      Have you ever seen wild turkey vultures too? I bet you see them a lot when you and Cole visit zoos!

      @@ShelbyOnSafari They are quite prevalent in and around Pennsylvania and Virginia and from a distance it is quite easy to mistake the two of them.

    Our favourite time of the year is spring because the amphibians come out of hibernation and start to breed and the daffodils start to flower 🐸💚🐸
