Loved it ! ❤
Hi, I've driven in the snow, but it wasn't as severe as the Arctic. I was thinking about going to Kiruna in December, renting a car and going to Narvik, do you think it's safe? even for those who don't have much snow experience.
Hi Cleison,
Thank you for your message, and sorry for the delayed response. To be honest, I wouldn’t recommend taking that route. The natural terrain is incredibly harsh, and the roads are difficult to navigate, with a high risk of skidding. Additionally, there’s very little traffic or local support along the way-aside from the occasional highway patrol car, you’re unlikely to encounter anyone else, and there are no villages or localities nearby.
If you still want to attempt the journey, I suggest using a larger vehicle equipped with snow chains and glare-resistant sunglasses. However, I believe you would have a much safer and equally scenic drive in Norway, such as from Narvik to other destinations. The roads there are well-maintained, and snow is cleared more frequently compared to those in Sweden.
@@OurTravelMuse hi it was pleasure watching this content. i too intend to do a drive from narvik>abikso and kiruna. will be renting car from narvik with studded tyres. ive driven in both iceland and finland during winter but ive not experience severe conditions yet. what will be your advise ? i plan to travel similar dates as yours too . ill start from narvik>lofoten>narvik>abikso>kiruna>narvik. tentative dates 1sdec till 20 dec
Hello Victor,
As I mentioned in my previous comment, there are reasons to avoid the Kiruna to Narvik road, but ultimately, it depends on your navigation and driving skills. While it promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, safety should come first. It would be ideal to travel with someone familiar with the route, as there are many sharp bends without guardrails, making it difficult to judge the road's edge. If your car gets stuck, it could be a long wait for assistance.
Drive cautiously-neither too fast nor too slow. If you’re driving a manual car, it might be helpful to practice the half-clutch technique if you’re not already familiar with it.
