The app should have a brush technique that a user should follow.
The Genius X won't track the position in my mouth good. Like when I'm brushing the back teeth one side it will track me brushing on the opposite side or the front of my mouth.
It's not that hard to see where you've brushed if you just remember.
The question is does it produce better results than a regular electric toothbrush or does it make the process easier?
Idk about you, but I have these things called cheeks and lips that make it hard to see my teeth and where the toothbrush is. It would be helpful to have something that knows just where I brushed so I can be sure to get all my teeth nice and clean and stop getting cavities.

The Oral B AI also detects the time spent brushing each section. If a user brushed all their teeth with a score below 100%, the user didn't spend enough time cleaning each tooth surface. However, the plaque and surface stains won't come off well if a user brushes for a shorter time.
If users only follow the 2-minute quad pacer, they might feel plaque left over and have to clean the teeth again. A user might not spend enough time on different tooth surfaces while following the 30-second quad pacer; when moving along the teeth, a user might spend more time on some teeth than the other teeth.

Yeah but who are these thousands of volunteers used to train the AI and how were they selected - what do I care if I brush differently to old mate down the road? Personally I feel an expert-elicitation approach (gold standard from a selection of dentists) would have been more appropriate for this, but I guess when you throw the phrase AI at something it sells more units. And what is Oral-B's data and privacy policies regarding what information they are keeping about you and who they are passing it on to? Anyone read the terms and conditions on the app?
They pass on whether you have cleaned your teeth properly to your dentist!

You don’t need to move your arm
As a data scientist who owns this, can tell you the AI feature is overrated. All they did was train user data to detect where you’re brushing. Thats all the AI (actually supervised machine learning) is.
If you have a structured brushing routine (e.g. tops, fronts, backs) then it’s not worth double the price IMO.
