@Bam4everBoo I am pleased to see your advices, thank you. Well, our Mantis is learned from Master Wong Chan Ping, in Tai Po Bamboo Forest Mantis Club, Hong Kong. Our style is sourced back to Bamboo Forest Temple in Jangxi Province, mainland China, so that's why we called it Bamboo Forest Mantis for short. By saying 'too many hands not enough body and foot work', do you mean the form demonstration or in the sparring(you can check out our sparring videos in our channel)?
I have seen your sparring video also. They are a very good work out and practise sparring. I like it a lot. I was refering to your buddies hand form. Body as a hammer, fist and palm as a nail. Foot work take the strength from the ground and so forth... It is hard to explain but if you try to pay more attention you will see the between using the body or not using it. Forever BamBooooooooooooo
@BambooMantis My sifu is Master Koo. We are from both Wong Yok Gong and Lee Wing Sing linage. The contact or non contact sparring are both important to me since it teaches us how to react under both situations. I think our style is very very very good and effective and I have tried few different times with it and it proves the effectiveness of our style. Anyway my idea is train hard but also train right. It takes both to make one complete good martial art.
where did you guys learn this Bamboo forest mantis? This is Si Gong Wong's style mantis. If you ask for my advice I would say it was too many hands not enough body and foot work. Not trying to pick on you but just sharing ideas. Oh most important is not to curve the chest at all. Just let your body do it by itself. When you try to suck it in and curve it will over do it and lose the purpose of it. Again, just sharing ideas with you.
As you train, your body will grow into your posture and if you suck your chest in too much, you will have too much pressure on your internal organs which isn't good for your health.
@Bam4everBoo I am from Belfast in Norther Ireland UK, originally Hong Kong. Do u think our style is effective? What do u think the contact sparring training is like? good or not? The traditional way of sparring training is without contact. Do you do the same style as me? Who teaches u? I learned this style from very young now I'm38 (I am the one who did the demo not BambooMantis:) ) I learned it in Hong Kong, r u from HK too?
