The residence permit
What is it?
The residence permit is a document, issued following an administrative process, which allows the foreign citizen to stay in Italy for the entire duration indicated in the residence permit and to carry out the activities related to the reason for which it was issued. The reason for the issue must correspond to that indicated on the entry visa.
The residence permit must be requested within 8 working days from the date of first entry into the territory of the Italian state.
Who should request it?
The residence permit must be requested by non-EU citizens entering Italy with a long-term visa (all those entering Italy for short stays, i.e. less than 90 days, are exempt from the obligation to request a residence permit).
