The melodic breakdown around 4:55 is the perfect example of what makes Mgła stand apart from other black metal bands. The way Darkside accents with the ride bell and hi-hat catches while working his crashes and china cymbals is so tastefully done. His drumming is the main reason why their songs are epic journeys rather than boring and repetitious. Very few drummers in any genre can create a "landscape" for the song to travel on the way he does.

Darkside is seriously the best black metal drummer out there. His work with Mgła and Kriegsmaschine opened up what drummers can do with black metal.

Best band in the newest wave of BM, imho. Completely awesome and breathtaking.
Darkside makes a superb work in his kit, his dexterity with the cymbals is quite unique. The band's lyrics are also a peculiar and marvelous point, mixing a mature nihilism with some metaphoric narrative "backgrounded" with Greek (and other) Mythology(ies). Monolithic riffs by mister M. complete the astonishing opus of these crazy Poles.

The cymbals are what gives Mgla it's really... *icy* tone. The constant high pitch of them gives it such a cold, wintery, frosty texture. It kind of... adds the White to the Black&White of the picture.

You can here some influences from jazz and fusion players with that paraddidle work mixed so beautifully and musically in a black metal environment.I love it!!!

Probably one of the best drum fills ever. This guy is incredible!
Not only double pedal, snare and hi-hat but here the use of the whole set is continuous. This drummer is fantastic and he is very different from everyone else.

the more I watch this video, the more fine details I find in his playing... truly a piece of art how he crafts his songs, it adds soo much more to the sound of mgla opposed to if it was just your standard black metal blasts and double bass and that's it. His cymbal game and his fills are otherworldly...

I could watch him all day. It's amazing how he drums. His cymbal game is on fire. This makes a good drummer in my opinion! One that plays to complement and supports the song!
His drumming reminds me of Carl-Michael Eide's playing on Written in Waters by Ved Buens Ende. That is some of my favourite metal drumming of all time, so that is a big compliment. This guy really arranges his playing and emphasizes the other instruments. A great drummer and a great musician!

I love what Mgla do for black metal. Was never a huge fan of it until I heard these guys and Batushka. Both bands are amazing but Mgla just really made it interesting.
He plays so flawlessly and with finesse you just don't see in black metal. Amazing.

What an amazing performance! I just log in to up-vote this beautiful video. Mgla is great, the three lasts albums are extremely wonderful. Darkside is such a talented drummer, and so is the entire band. Mgla will always have a special place in my heart!

There’s actually a few live videos of them playing. Probably a slightly different lineup. Corpse paint and everything. Nothing from the newest album though.
The intricate cymbal patterns are crazy. I love the patterns on the bell of the ride cymbal within the overall ride patterns. It comes out really well on the album also. This is my favorite Mgla song. Glad this showed up my YT feed. Thanks for posting it.

Es totalmente sorprendete como logra adentrarse mas alla de los tintes tradicionales y golpes que suelen escucharse en el BM. Darkside es el claro ejemplo de como su versatilidad artistica y su concepto mas alla de lo estetico, de como bandas de una epoca mas alla de lo tradicional, logra posicionarse como una de las mas contundentes en el genero musical. MGLA, un concepto carente de parafernalia y a la vez, lleno de total arte.
