She seemed very kind/smart, but was soooo nervous. Wish them the best. Terrible valuation. Don't think their business model is as bad as the sharks said. It really is "everyone wins." Big issue is that most celebs are already rich and it isn't worth it to hop on a video call for an hour to make a couple hundred $.
They asked for a ton of money in a crowded market for a product that’s not off the ground. If it was $100k or so they probably would’ve gotten something.

Business name should of been “idolization”. God hates idols. It’s idolatry to admire other human beings on this level. Wanting Gullible to worship celebrities and a Get rich quick scheme to get people to idolize celebrities enough to pay to talk to them. Weird, Pathetic and sad. During pitch the guy even said “validation” is what his business wants.
I'm a bit late to this comment but a similar site already exists, Cameo. This idea is actually way better imo because it's a lot more personable.

Thankfully they did get a call back from another shark investor from the show. It was Barbara who called to make sure and let them know that she was out.

Yeah, I literally saw Mya like 6 times as I was scrolling. There are other services like this too, built by people with a tech background. It's gonna be a tough road but they're actually doing alright for themselves.

I think LeBron would do it if he was sitting at home, bored on a Sunday. He seems like a pretty cool dude. But he doesn't need it to make money like tik tokers and one hit wonders.

The guy said he did M&A for the past three years, yet he valued his company at such a high figure. Considering the basic valuation methods, there should have been no way that he came to the conclusion that 15% of his company was worth $500k given his company weak cash flow. Likewise, there is no strong infrastructure, patent, or PP&E. They want to use the investment to build an app, etc. I'm just mind-blown by how someone doing M&A can arrive at this valuation.
He's a lawyer for M&A tbf, while he might have some idea of how to value something due to connections and who he works with, that isn't his job. Not that it makes his valuation any more justifiable.
@@MrEast737 That's a good clarification. I was under the assumption that he worked in a M&A role. I know plenty of JD candidates who made the switch to IB/M&A. Nonetheless, you would have thought that he would have ran it by some of his buddies at the firm regardless if he's looking to come on Shark Tank or raise capital from VCs.
@William I also think some people go into Shark Tank without wanting an investment just for the marketing. So in order to avoid losing equity they just inflate their valuation.

That was Mya, R&B singer, she was very popular back in the early 2000s. I actually liked her music still listen to her from time to time. It would be cool if they could make this platform for connecting with artists who were popping back then. I for one, have a few artists I used to adore back then and would love to catch up like we old friends or sumn😂

I mean its an interesting concept but with celebrities already being rich, $400 for 5 minutes isnt much when they have millions in the bank. Its like one of those "my time is more valuable than what the task is worth" kind of scenarios. They seem very smart and put together so im sure they will be successful in the end.

This is the worst idea to ever come to Shark Tank. Stalkers, creepers, criminals, the list of things that could go wrong is endless. On a platform like Cameo the creator has all the power, that is not the case here.

Business looks to have stalled. The news section hasn’t been updated since 2021, Mya comes up as their best selling celebrity but only has three reviews. By comparison, lots of mid level celebs on Cameo have around 4000 reviews. I’m not sure it was a good concept, imagine being told the customer has paid for 5 mins then they keep on talking and it’s up to the celebrity to say ‘no I’m stopping talking now, you only paid for five minutes’

It's because the "gold digger" in question had already raised over 2.5 million dollars for her company. Mark thought that they didn't need the money, but they just wanted to get some exposure and more money on top of they could. These guys didn't have any money raised, which is what the show is supposedly for.

Keep in mind these pitches are cut to 10-15 mins for us but are much longer in person. He’s probably just writing evaluation and any notes throughout the pitch.
you have no idea what part of the cut it is...the presentations are 30 minutes to 2 hours.

I personally don’t see high platform celebrities using these. How do fans compete with other fans to go on that stream. I understand candi handles that but their messages will be overwhelmed with messages or requests, like how do we make sure which customer is next. Idk…. This is what I would want out of Cameo. Most options affordable to everyday people are just prerecorded messages. There is something so much more valuable about an actual authentic interaction
no interaction with a celebrity will be "authentic" because they are literally strangers that don't have any idea who you are.

All that work in M&A yet comes up with this ludicrous and almost rude valuation, didn’t do his homework on such a key part of the investor side to the business. Not as smart as he thinks - needs to go back to the drawing board asap.

I would like to see the couple succeed, but the business model is just not good. Most of the people who would want to avail of this service would be young people, but how many of them would have the extra money to spend on this luxury good?
And so more than 4 years after appearing in Shark Tank, they still have very low sales, and the most popular celebrities on their listings are the two of them (for their appearance in Shark Tank).

When someone comes in with a valuation like that that's totally crazy, even if you COULD give them a more reasonable number, you shouldn't because very often they get angry that you didn't hand them their ridiculous price and they tank the deal on purpose. Just send people like this out of the building.

The company was basically zoom session with a celebrity. At most it’s a gimmick and at worst it’s an expensive video call. These two are clearly very educated but this sounds more like a lazy way to make money. Sharks saw right through it.

I always have this thought when these scenarios come up .. however there are a lot of businesses that operate in a specific market, are great at what they do and compete against larger players that can expand into their space or already there.
Think PandaDoc and DocuSign.
