So a couple of points for future reference. I've played a fair bit of Rus water. As long you're booming on water eco, you're going to outpace most civs, as you don't have to worry about bumping or travel time. This is absurdly powerful, and the #1 nerf I want for russian water at the moment. It's literally too good considering dock placement really don't matter for them in regards to fishing. Additionally, you can actually create a timing push with around 6-7 fishing boats into attack ships. While building the golden gate, station them outside and get a small bank of gold up. Then convert with the 150 from golden gate and the 75 from the boar on the island, though you may want 3-4 vills on gold as well. It's extremely potent, And will kill a lot of fishing ships or Idle a lot of them, and can kill enemy hulks and galleys even under dock bonus if they are alone, but remember, you should hit a good bit faster than their galleys come out. You're also never punished by the game for devoting your docks to only building fishing ships. You can always get extremely good fish, can hide them wherever on the map, and can convert them to demo ships to use in a pinch. Additionally, Lodya ships convert in a flat 20 seconds for any ship to any ship, and have no additional cost for conversion (*IF you're converting to a higher costing ship. Fishing ships are the cheapest). If you want a trade ship, you can build them in 1:05, or build a fishing ship and convert to a trade ship; it'll take 40 seconds, 20 of which is moving! so it's kinda like a triple produced trade ship :) one more thing, Rus navy in castle age will actually hard counter french navy, since they lack archer ships. You can use demos (you know, fishing ships), and any mass of hulks/galleass/Carrack are easily destroyed with 5 or so demo's, and any smaller fleet can be killed by the 20 or so accompanying/screening lodya attack ships with minimal damage, once you get your archer upgrades. The russian fleet is fluid, so you have to be aware that any large fleet you make can be killed by as little as 5-6 demos when fighting against them, it's such a small investment it's criminal. and finally, the correct way to counter a good rus water player is, in my opinion, either screen the oceans consistently and destroy as many fishing boats, learn to do the marine split from SC2 against demos, or play strict galley with small numbers against them with maybe 1-2 anti structure ships to kill docks. Any sizable force can be countered favorable by just throwing 3-5 demos its way, and this can mean a huge swing in resources in the Russian's favor. Additionally, if they make too many demos in a fleet, just use their demos against them. If a demo dies to a demo, it will trigger friendly demos to detonate, and will cause a chain reaction, from experience.
@@smnvalex maybe not nerfed to the ground, but maybe away from criminal good to just really good. What he said makes sence and I will give it a try tomorrow against hard AI's.
@@vilgefortz3131 something working on hard ai's does not signify whether its good or not. someone can rush pure mangonel and beat hardest ai, doesnt mean that its good. rus's ability to not need to have a drop off point is really good but literally everthing else about them on water maps is terrible. they need something thats strong to at least somewhat negate the bad
France: invents armored ships in the Castle Age Rus: invents teleporter to drop-off fish straight from the middle of the ocean Wow, AOE 4 is really historically accurate!
I can recommend "Beginners Guide to AOE4" by Spirit of the Law if you want to learn things like the colour of flags on resources. The mans got some killer advice for players of all skill levels.
I hope they leave them alone and buff others to be equal, instead of nerfing what I learned the last week (yep - guilty: I'm both rus and french main, can't life without my feudal knights)
An Aussie wanting to counter the French ? On this very moment when outrage and aukus is happening ? HonHon this is provocation, how dare you ! We will meet on the batlefield! ;)
I've been loving the Rus on water! I'll like to go hard into early fishing in strange places and then transform a couple fishing ships into Incendiary Ships and go for their fishing and military as soon as I hit castle. It's also really nice to be able to transform a fishing ship to a transport to quickly and flexibly expand to other islands. I had a game the other day against the chinese that ended in me having to run siege cannon drops to snipe their landmarks, it was really satisfying and reminded me of siege tank drops from my SC2 days. Thanks for the awesome content! You've quickly become my favorite AOE4 streamer. Edit: seems my other comment was deleted so I'll put it here: please make an effort to either guess the pronouns of people you're facing or use the neutral They. April is not often a man's name. This game is getting a bigger more diverse audience than past entries in the series and it's time we stop misgendering every woman who plays the game.
If the french naval army is so strong then how do we fight it?
Aussie_Drongo: That's the best part. We don't.
"Just might as well put a landmark in his city, just cause, you know, I think its a pretty good landmark." In chat "This heinous disrespect" LMAO

Historical accuracy is for history class. Games are for fun.

A truly masterful display of the classic Kobayashu MaRus.
I like playing HRE on water maps, fantastic econ and can defend docks in Feudal to last through to Castle.

It's crazy how it's just always the French or the Rus that have all the answers.

- We don't have enough docks to hit naval
- Docks? Where we are going we don't need docks
Oh yeah! I just got done watching the last upload! I love that you are Aussie because you upload in USA morning time haha
Truly impressive amount of knowledge you have there Aussie. I also do not know how you fit it all in one head 🤣
This build was so illegal I had to call the Internet Police, sorry Drongo but it's going to be a 10-15 stretch for you.
You are born in the wrong age bro, you were supposed to be a conqueror back in these ages.
But you are stomping over the poor shore fishes with your docks
ye it cost him the game
You don’t really need the shore fish deep sea ones are way better. Especially since he doesn’t need to drop off with fishing ships.

They already controlled the seas, yet continued to focus on naval production. Not sure this would've worked otherwise, against an equal player.
barracks is singular and plural.
Have you ever checked the description of Golden Gate?
AoE4 life hackz wiv Aussie Drongo!
This is NOT how you beat french on water. You outplayed the shit out of him, his hulks came out so late...
Such a beautiful game. Well played.
Is it really the ultimate counter when it only works if it's a surprise?
Title was a joke
No the title was clickbait as usual.
@@myopiniondoesntmatter7068 welcome to youtube?
It's a decent counter because you have to invest a lot to destroy all of these nimble boats. It may work even if the opponent knows what you're doing.
It's always a surprise because the enemy never really knows what you're doing anyways 😜
In Russia, you don't catch fish,
Fish catch you.
really magical build
