• MERI BLOUSE SEWING TUT...
A meri blouse also known in Papua New Guinea as meri kolos is a blouse commonly worn by women in Papua New Guinea. Today, there are many different styles of this blouse available and those who sew these meri blouses have their own way of sewing them. These blouses are produced mainly by women in SME sector and sold to PNG women in Papua New Guinea and even to those who live in Australia and New Zealand. These type of dresses were introduced by missionaries back in time. Other South Pacific Island countries such as Vanuatu and Solomon Islands may also have dress styles with similar history attached to the work of christain missionaries in Pacific. It is usually worn as a part of church attire with a wrap around the waist fabric similar to the lavalava in other Pacific Island countries like Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. This is a step by step sewing tutorial on how I make this dress.
This dress is an easy to wear dress and also easy to make dress without the use of a pattern. It can be easily adjusted to one's size preference and own styling options. This is Part Two of a two-part meri blouse sewing tutorial series.
