  • Police in riot gear cleared away the pro-Palestinian protest early this morning, on the campus of George Washington University. It came just hours before Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and the city's police chief were scheduled to testify before lawmakers. Around 3:30 in the morning, hundreds of DC metropolitan police officers in riot gear descended on H Street, several demonstrators cried out for water, after being pepper sprayed by police. Police say those arrested are being charged with assault on police officers. Representative Brandon Williams says, "We have to stomp out antisemitism right now. If you think about what happened in the 1920s and 30s you cannot wait, you cannot wait for this to metastasize into something more evil than even what we're seeing today." Former school nurse, Mary Beth Tinker who brought a free speech case before the Supreme Court over 50 years ago says the justices agreed teachers, students and all staff have the right to speak their mind. During the hearing, educators defended their record on antisemitism. Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales reports.
