    Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

This is one of the best interviews on Film Courage. Houston Howard gave some great and practical advice that’s relevant for creators today. Rather than feeding into the old outdated advice and relying on hope (to break into Hollywood), his interview details how to break out of bubbles that are self imposed or imposed by old industry standards. Thank you Film Courage for the great content.

Fun Fact, something of the sorts is happening in Argentina. Hernan Casciari is a storyteller and a writer who created an IP out of himself and the publisher he co created called Orsai. Now he managed, together with the team at Orsai, to crowdfund an entire movie with almost two thousands producers. The movie is almost done shooting and a series based on some short stories is on the way. So with persistence and some charisma it can be done.

And how he explains the new reality of the film business it’s just so amazing to be encouraged to branch out in other media formats for the sake of benefiting a film adaptation. Nothing but creating more and nothing but more fun ahead!!
To attack the market I’m going ham with RUclips first making “cinematic business documentaries” using stock clips and narration. Funny enough, alot of people I’ve shared my first video with have suggested making a podcast out of it. The business model will mirror that of the music industry. More doing things on your own. Not replacing the studio. Just like record companies aren't going anywhere. But the ability to get something created without the studio will become easier.
To what he's saying about movies being based on a book. There's a Film Courage interview with who I think is a screenwriter, who gave his opinion on whether hollywood has run out of ideas because of all the reboots and remakes that are being done. Who said he thought it had to do with fear of new ideas not working out and hollywood playing it safe, instead of running out of new ideas.
But when I started paying attention to the credit list at the beginning and end of movies and saw how many were based on a previously written book by someone other than who wrote the screenplay, I realized that hollywood never had many ideas in the first place. They get their ideas from authors of books.

IP has been the main goal in comics and games for over 10 years. I'm surprised only "now"(a few years recently) the movie industry gets it. Interesting.

I REALLY like Mr. Howard. He actually knows and understands the market we're in now and understands how modern mass-market customers look at things vs. silos and niche fanboy echo-chambers. Great stuff, as usual! This has become my favorite channel about Game Development Business and Production. ;) Keep up the great work!

This is one of the best interviews ever on film courage… This man is a gift, and the way he is explaining the new business model is exactly what we take for granted… As a creator, we are making things too difficult to get started and you don’t need to be validated by a corporate interest like he said, asking permission to use your own God-given talents… That day is over with

IP is such an important topic. In the music industry they take the Masters (the final completed version of a song) and have ownership over it if the artist is not careful or aware to own their own masters.

Along with it was the original music I had done.

Loving it. The gaming industry and the adult entertainment industry is also about to add a nuance to filmmaking and the cinema. IP is definitely the way to go considering the rise and rise of smart contracts and this nft business..... You might just have to have a McKinsey's approach to making entertainment....cheers shout out from South Africa!

If a producer options a successful book and the movie fails it's not his fault.
He optioned a successful book, hired an experienced script writer, an experienced director
and an acknowledged actor. If it fails, it's their fault.
If a producer plumps for an original idea, and the movie fails, it's his fault.
Even if everyone else on production is at the top of their game.
    Now imagine you're a producer.
It has nothing to do with awareness.

17:50 "There's so much stuff out there!" Absolutely 100% true. The market (especially the web market) is completely saturated with stuff (most of it garbage).
" And it's way too competitive!" Absolutely 100% not true. I'd say 70-75% of the stuff circulating out there is no-quality, consumerish, watch- me- once- and- then- throw- me- in- the- waste-basket rubbish. Some of it may be popular, but it doesn't mean its competitive. It's way too competitive only when it's coming out of powerful all-encompassing Studios and totally out of the grasp of Indipendent Filmmakers, who could never compete with that high level of specialized artistry, expertise, resources and production values.
So you see, in the end it would be wise to be able to get inside them and work with them if you can. The alternative (as an emerging Indie) is a life of back-breaking work that could lead you nowhere. I know lots of guys who woke up in their mid 60s, asking themselves "Ah, if only I had done this! I shoulda, coulda, woulda..."
    Well, It's a conundrum, I know!

re-re-re-re-launching an old established IP is always more 'safe' than launching a new IP.
Problem is, this never allows NEW IPs!

Depends. Zack Synder is launching his own franchises on Netflix.
One is a zombie franchise other is space SciFi like Star Wars. Both original.
