Hurricane Beryl to slam the Yucatan Peninsula tonight

Hurricane Beryl continues to thrash the Cayman Islands this morning with winds near the center of up to 120 miles per hour, and hurricane conditions likely occurring on Grand Cayman. The storm is holding intensity fairly well, but is expected to weaken a little more later today before it makes landfall in Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Beryl is expected to make landfall south of Tulum overnight tonight, and Hurricane Warnings are in effect. The storm will weaken over land and emerge over the Gulf of Mexico as a strong tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane, before strengthening somewhat on approach to the northeast coast of Mexico and over the border into Texas.
Heavy rain with totals of up to 12 inches are possible in northern Mexico and Texas, compounded by the potential of Invest 96L also developing behind Beryl near Texas. 6 inches of rain are expected on the Cayman Islands and the Yucatan.
