I have a Petzl Tactikka (white and red light) headlamp, I picked it up for around $30. It’s also attached to my helmet, it’s not the best or worst but it works and it doesn’t cost much. Gear doesn’t have to be expensive but not too cheap (low quality) either.
I think you would be better served with the Streamlight Sidewinder Compact 2 as your headlamp. Like your 1L-1AA flashlight it also runs on a single AA, CR123 or even a AAA. It includes a Red LED, white light, Blue LED AND INFRARED. It also has a metal spring clip to hang on you MOLLE or ALICE straps and of course an elastic head strap. It should be your default headlamp.
I ran that headlamp hard for many deployments and my only complaint was how uncomfortable it was when wearing it like a normal headlamp haha. Besides that it worked great! Especially under NOD's. Never had a black diamond but im interested in trying one out.
I have a couple of them around. I've been issued a few and have used them alot. My opinion they are reliable but extremely weak on the lumens... IR and red light feature is nice but I always found myself swapping them out.
+1 for the black diamond revolt. I am on my fourth one after a few years, and it does everything I need it to. Use the low flood for night running, the red for reading books or practicing stealth, or the full-open setting if something spooks me. They have about 300lumens and run about 60 bucks. Even offer one in a green/black camouflage. They still make the light, but it looks a little different from the model that PreparedAirman has.
Black Diamond brand is just ok. I have the one I bought a few years ago. The swivel is limited and not easily used up close, I bought a Petzl el cheapo for $20 bucks and everything super surpassed the Black diamond. But I also use my nightly and for when I'm doing everything from engines, tooling, running lathe or typing info into a GPS unit.
lol Not an Olight fan. I have about 8 of there lights and all the PLmini 2 models ran out of juice just sitting around not being activated for about 11 months... Also the way they charge them are kinda a pain. I would rather have covered micro usb covers on them.
I stick with fenix lights. I have a ton of them and love them. Although the stream light you carry that’s able to take different batteries is a huge advantage especially in an SHTF where you might have to scavenge.
I also like that Bushnell headlamp sold at Walmart, it seems to be about the same but has a separate button so you can go straight to red light. It seems like most headlamps don't have that and you have to cycle through modes to get to red. I'd like to see some newer videos on nods usage, tactics, etc, and how to defeat nvg/thermal. I think that knowledge may become relevant very soon lol.

You should look into Zebralight headlamps and flashlights. They’re the most compact lights with highest efficiency circuits in the industry. No other brand beats Zebralight when it comes to efficiency not even SureFire. Of course Zebralights are all programmable with intuitive multi mode UIs.
You should check out the fenix HM65r headlamp and LD30 for an EDC light. Both are IP68 rated, have battery level indicators, last a VERY long time and have a lot of modes, which I didn't think I cared for at first but now realize that it makes them very efficient and versatile. They are also very powerful which is why I mostly use them on like, the lowest settings. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that they are rechargeable and you can buy extra batteries.
Yeah Bro, bring it on, I roll with D cell maglites for the truck an house, but Petzel headlamp an coastal pocket lite, its a simple on/ off an a momentary mode, but it works for me. Thx for the vid
I found some inexpensive energizer flash lights that run off of cr123s. I painted the lens red because white light can be seen too far. Battery life isn't all that great, but it'll work until I can find something better. I also fastened one light to my Cap Bill. Using a screw to secure it, it's easy to swap out.
Happy New year! It is a Blue alpha gear 10 speed triple mag carrier. It's made for AR magazines but it can be used for holding other items since it's elastic. I have been testing it out recently.
Love that stream light flashlight I ask you about it a couple of months ago great light. I also bought a Black diamond 300 Lum headlamp also but I didn’t know they made one that was rechargeable at the time. For EDC toting extra batteries is fine plus the vehicle or house is within reach. For a Bug Out kit like that HPG chest pack you're wearing I'd go usb chargeable on everything. On front of my chest pack I have the absolute cheapest folding solar charger, discontinued but still available, the 5 watt sold at Harbor Freight. In full sun it charges my Moto G Power phone at 2% per 5 minutes. I don't carry that phone in my chest pack, I carry a flip phone ATT, charges from 12 % to full in 1 hr 30 minutes full sun. My NEBO mini headlight fully charges in 40 minutes with the little panel. I never understood carrying a smart phone brick unless for entertainment. A compass will do instead of electronic app's. Plus you have to carry another charging brick. Anything happens which renders roads, vehicle travel and cell towers useless then that phone calling is over. Battery bank will be dead within 3 to 5 days, extra batteries might get you out to a week or two. That's why I carry a burner flip phone. If something happens and utility is warranted out past a week then there will be days when the sun shines and long after a cradle charger with plug or dozen extra AA's are depleted, you will still have a pen light, a headlight, a usb plasma lighter, a handheld UV-3 Baofeng which has the usb cable you can detach from the cradle charger, NOT the UV-3r. With proper care there is no reason why that equipment won't still be in service a year down the road or much longer. If you cache what's needed to sustain, large items and such, then that HPG chest pack with a US govt issue tarp and poncho rolled and strapped beneath it and your essentials inside pack is all the bug out kit you need.
I have other Streamlight ProTac 1l-1AA reviews seen, but they all say it can be used with CR123, and AA. You say, as the only one, that it can also use... AAA. Are you sure about that claim? Warm greetings, Editha
It definitely can. Anything that can take an AA can also take an AAA, but usually you need to fill the extra space with something like aluminium foil. You don't have to do that with the ProTac 1L-1AA as it's designed already to accept batteries of different sizes. But I'll go a step further and say I've heard that RCR123s, AAAAs, 10440s, 14500s, and 16340s have all been tested and reported to work in this flashlight. The Lithium-ion cells like 16340 run at a higher voltage (3.7V nominal, 4.2V full) compared to the recommended CR123 (3V), so it could potentially damage the flashlight and you do so at your own risk... But it has been reported to work, even after months of usage, with apparently no issues - and the flashlight is much brighter with the higher voltage. The versatility of this thing is amazing.
What’s your thoughts on the modlite? They make a great defensive light imo but lack useability as a task light because they get so hot. The Surefire stilleto and that streamlight both seem to lack lumens and candela.
I personally have not used modlight before but I have talked to alot of professionals that say they produce the best weapon lights on the market. As an EDC or task like I pretty much stick with Streamlight. Surefires are expensive and bulky and lack lumens in my opinion, And olights have lumens and recharging capabilities but they just fail on me..
AA and AAA output the same voltage 1.5v. They are just different sized cells. I have ran AAAs In this light many times. I definitely works and won't damage the light.
I'm gonna chime in here later when I can watch the video. ABSOLUTELY DON'T BUY LUX'PRO BRAND OF ANYTHING... The batteries last about 15-20 minutes max. Even on red lamp for night sight use. The battery is no thicker than a US quarter and barely the size of a US dime. I am just saying.... PETZL tactika or mine the Tikka with CORE ❤️💕♥️💞or Fenix micro iirc.

If you hold down the main on button for 4 seconds it will move into red light mode.

Are you sure that light takes AAA batteries? I read it only uses cr123 and two types of AA batteries.
